2026 review First of all, go install these mods: Prometheus Enhanced https://www.nexusmods.com/theincredibleadventuresofvanhelsingfinalcut/mods/2 No-Intro (Skip Startup - Splash Videos) https://www.nexusmods.com/theincredibleadventuresofvanhelsingfinalcut/mods/4 If you're an ARPG fan, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut is absolutely worth playing. Even though the game is a bit dated today, the gameplay still feels surprisingly good and addictive. Combat is fun, the skill system is solid, and there’s plenty of loot and character progression to keep you hooked for hundreds of hours. One of the best parts of the game is Katarina, your ghost companion. Her dialogue is hilarious, full of personality, and the interactions between her and Van Helsing make the journey much more enjoyable. She easily becomes one of the most memorable companions in the ARPG genre. Replayability is another strong point thanks to the multiple classes and different build possibilities. Trying new characters and experimenting with skills keeps the game fresh even after finishing the story. The game also feels rewarding overall, leveling up, finding better gear, and improving your build always gives a satisfying sense of progress. There is also an additional challenge called “Adventure”. It is a kind of endgame farming gameplay mode where you complete various quests and farm gear and experience. The level cap is 100, but there is an overlevel system that lets you gain special points after reaching level 100, allowing you to further strengthen your character and push it even more. Overlevel is available only in Adventure mode. If you love ARPGs and don't mind slightly older graphics, this game is a hidden gem that still deserves attention. It runs perfectly fine on Windows 11 without issues, but sometimes I was experiencing some background texture flickering, which was a bit annoying. I was unable to fix it. IMPORTANT: The game has a save bug. Sometimes it doesn’t save your progress. There is no "Save Game" button, as progress is saved automatically while you play. I googled fixes and tried everything, but nothing worked (you can try other fixes, maybe it will work for you). The only solution I found was to "manually force" the game to save, and here is how to do it: Before you start, on the main menu character screen, it shows your nickname, level, and location. Start the game, change location (go to a different map/location), and then exit back to the main menu. If you see that your location has changed, that means the save is working and you can safely play the game. If you go to another location, exit to main menu and see that your location has not changed, that means the save is not working and you will lose progress if you continue playing. In that case, exit the game completely and repeat every step until it works, until you see that location name has changed on the main menu according to the location you went ingame. Sometimes the game needs to be restared multiple times. The ingame location name is shown in the top-right corner. Another way to deal with this is very similar. Take one item from your inventory and place it in a random spot in the inventory. Exit the game and then go back in. If the item stayed where you placed it before exiting, it means the save is working. If the item is not at that location, the save is not working. DO NOT exit while playing Tower Defense Quests because that fix will not work and you will get stuck!!! If it does happen, you would have to go to Save Game folder and replace current save file with backup one, which is located in same folder. Overall, it's a hassle and annoying bug, but if you are like me and you like the game, it is worth it. IMPORTANT #2: One of the main story quests sometimes gets bugged. The quest is to eliminate Infiltrator units at Viaduct Junction. When you eliminate all enemy units, the quest doesn't recognize it as completed and leaves it unfinished and you get stuck and unable to progress the game. This is how to fix it (the quest will autocomplete): 1) Navigate to "<Steam Directory>\steamapps\common\The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing Final Cut\Cfg\Quests" 2) Open the file "Questlist_Gold_main_AktII.cfg" in any text editor. 3) Find the text "OnStoryData:general_activator,keep". 4) Go to the beginning of the line and hit enter. You should now have an empty line between "}" and "OnStoryData:general_activator,keep". 5) Paste the block below: OnMapChanged:terep_Lair { AddStoryData=droppod_quest_done } 6) Save the file. 7) Restart the game. Warning: If you do not undo this change after you've completed the quest, future characters will end up autocompleting the quest. OTHER: The game sometimes randomly generates physics.txt with text "Static actor moved. Not recommended while the actor is part of a scene." If you see that somewhere, it is not malware, it is generated by the game and it's safe to delete.
It's basically a bland version of Diablo, but it's worth trying out since it's only like $4 on sale. Also works perfectly on the Steam Deck despite saying unsupported.
classes ruined the game. the non final you play as a monster hunter. typical van. melle/ranged. final all is seprate. i wana look and feel like van helsing or else id play another arpg
Look, there are more than a couple of things to like about this game: Van himself, he is very heroic and stoic, just like how I like them. The idea of a ghost companion, a Lady Katarnia, no less, is very cool as well, their banter and contrasting personalities are fun to witness. The settings are steamy and foggy, all those machines creating endless pillars of smoke and electricity shooting about from contraptions that were made to kill indiscriminately between hordes of filthy beasts and other brutes and creatures. A fragmented world that desperately needed a savior, then, comes Van Helsing, the son of his father, to defeat the evil and right the wrongs. The game has many upgrade systems, as you would expect, and your companion has her own abilities and passives, which adds depth to the game. I liked it, but nothing is ever clear when an ability is active, when its effects are present or not. The soundtracks are nice… until they start playing again, in different parts of the world, killing their unique attachment and identity. The game desperately needs a remake, for there are so many issues that cannot be fixed easily without rethinking systems and starting over, which is unlikely to happen. The core gameplay itself is very boring and bland. For starters, you can only have two active abilities at any given time, the first of which will almost always be dealing damage, meaning, throughout the whole game, you have one slot for an ability that does something other than deal damage… Sure, you can stop mid-fight, click around hurriedly for fear of dying, and change your 2nd ability and equip another one, but this gets old fast, and it's unreliable and not a realistic way of playing, and it just goes against what makes an ARPG fun: steamrolling everything with myriad abilities and powers. I know this game is old, but come on, Titan Quest 1 did it a decade before this one. Another atrocious design decision was the rage system: you can power up your main (two) abilities using mini power-ups, but to use them, you need rage, which is gained by killing monsters. Now, idk about other builds, but for mine, a standard class out of the 6, a knight, I almost always didn’t have rage… You spend it, and then you finish killing enemies, and more often than not, it’s not refilled, let alone having it always available to constantly buff yourself during the action. I really don’t understand the need for a second mana bar… But the third tragedy of a design is the healing system: you can only carry one (1) healing flask, maybe later you unlock another one, but at around 20 hours, I can only have one. Being a melee in-your-face class with one single healing item simply does not work. I constantly have to fight, heal, get very low and run away, wait for healing to recharge, go in again, repeat. The game is old, graphically and technically. It bugs out and doesn’t load sometimes, ‘high’ effects bug out in the nexus, giving you a mini seizure till you turn them off… leave nexus, turn them on, come back, turn them off. The game refuses to load at all till you edit the registry in Windows…? I have no idea how such a game-breaking bug is not fixed. It’s just a slog to wade through. I suppose it would be fair to say you should only play this ARPG if you played the other, better, ones first and only then would this deserve your time, or if you are really a fan of Van Helsing, the man who says things like: “You dont have to worry about me, my lady, I was born to fight.” and I wish the game was better to enjoy more of him.
Very good and multiplayer co-op still works ignore anyone saying that it doesnt.
A dificuldade é equilibrada.
5/10 .Got tired of grinding for non-existent choices. I played the original game when it came out and it wasn't that great at that time, but it was more or less consistent. The Final Cut version pretty much stitches all of the 3 games, but at the same time makes you play the game with standalone classes. Now, my biggest complaint for the Final Cut is the lack of real choices and very boring / bad classes. I had the exact same issue with Torchlight II that didn't offer any worthwhile class, so my experience was rock-bottom boring. The Final Cut offers 6 classes, but I don't play melee unless I am forced, so I had to chose between 4. I really, really wanted to play the whole collection so, what I ended was getting all these 4 classes to level 20 to actually make my choice of class based on 2/3 of all skills. Sadly the gameplay with all 4 classes was absolutely boring and sadly, I arrived at the conclusion that I do not want to invest any more time in this game. The main issue is that this game is designed for ranged attacks and the difficulty is poorly balanced. You mow everything perfectly, then you are suddenly drawn into a fight and cannot escape or are pretty much insta-killed at range. Doing this with hardcore characters is really fun. Then, the "skill tree" doesn't give many options. You pretty much pick 1-3 skills and build your character in a way that they can use said skills for 20 levels then respec. Some classes don't even have basic survivability skills until level 20. The Rage mechanic is kind of poorly implemented as well. I don't want to pre-click stacks and micro-manage each of my attacks. The mecha is horridly slow and gameplay is mostly put mine, run back slowly, repeat until level 20. Then the left click becomes overpowered and all other skills look useless compared to it, so now you have an one-trick-pony build. Playing the summoner class is basically playing a walking simulator. Get your contraptions out, run towards the enemy, collect loot, repeat. Your basic attack is so slow and ineffective that there's no point in even trying to play actively. The hunter lacks any reasonable crowd control (as most are low damage or positional) and you are under-performing compared to the other classes. The mage looks good on paper, but you will probably end up using upkeep spells. This means that you use a static area spell, then make the enemy run after you in a circle to get the spell to work, wait for it to get off cooldown and repeat. All of this is boring and since you are limited by cooldown or mana, the progress feels like stuttery increments. Inventory almost doesn't have any consequence. Just grind and get the items off the enemies. Then bigger number is best, sell the rest. But money is not important as you can always find better loot so you'll be asking yourself why are you bothering with collecting all items and going into town to sell them? If you collect cetain unique trophies, you can unlock the stand that offers both a buff and a debuff, but that debuff will really hurt you, so that's an mostly pointless feature as well. Ability points and Katarina are also weird. Some characters go 100% in one ability, while others split between 2. Based on class, Katarina's skills work differently. For example, you have a skill that increases attack, but... it doesn't do anything on the mech suite, as it's attacks work based on cooldowns. For mage, if you use upkeep spells, there's no point investing into mana or mana regeneration which seems anticlimatical. All builds revolve around Katarina being melee and you only need to pump her with HP stealing items so you can pull your boring party tricks. Also had a lot of issues getting this to work properly on Linux. For now, I'll be putting this aside. Maybe one day I'll have the drive to go through this bore-fest 'till the end.
The ARPG with the best storyline and dialogue of any ARPG that I've ever played.
I've played about every ARPG out there, and this game is an amazing ONE-TWO time run game. I couldn't see myself playing multiple runs. But it's a very enjoyable experience that rewards exploration.
