The Humans Collection

The Humans Collection is an ancient game from 1992. It's a whopping 31 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge. This ancient Commodore Amiga game was a curious blend of platformer and Lemmings style "specialised character" gameplay. Negotiate each puzzle platformer level by using specific capabilities of the specific cavemen you have access to. And interesting concept, but not necessarily a good one, or any fun at all. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio, due to the age of the game, it predates the 16:9 widescreen gaming standard established back in 2006. It's possible they're marketing this towards people using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game is being specifically marketed towards people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. It's obviously not going to look right on a modern 16:9 gaming display. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. The Humans Collection is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $8 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. Even when it was new, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that went almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. Now, on Steam, without any modernisation? This is impossible to recommend.

This is the old MS DOS game that I loved as a kid and its all there. The only problem is that the game play is so slow. When moving the characters, they move so slow, but the rest of the program is running fine (time, music, some cut scene). As of now I can’t recommend this because you can’t make in through a level at this time, but with a fix that will change. 6-5-2018

My Childhood <3 No issues running, graphics are just like I remember, controls are as fluid as a game this style could be.

I loved this game when i played it on the Atari Jaguar, but the controls are naff, no save option, still have to write down the "passwords" for the levels. Sadly, better off as a nostalgic memory. RIP.

Dreadful. Runs terrible. Music stutters. Slow as molasses. No instructions. Just a DosBox emulation of a very old game.

Этот сборник включает 3 игры: The Humans, The Humans 2: The Jurassic Levels и The Humans 3: Evolution Lost in Time. Первые 2 части очень похожи друг на друга, а третья уже имеет новый движок, графику и управление. Всё игры являются головоломками. Тебе даётся определённой количество пещерных людей с помощью которых ты и проходишь уровни. В каждом уровне своя задача: добраться до красной зоны, убить динозавра, спасти пещерную принцессу или добраться до идола. Первые две части мне прям зашли, а вот с последней я помучился. Управление только с помощью мыши без возможности поставить в опциях клавиатуру огорчает. Хороший сборник годных игр.

I've had many many great memories of this game. It was a no brainer for me to buy it a from what I can see I definitely wasn't disappointed. Still one of the better puzzle games out there.

This game is a complete mess on Steam. The Steam interface constantly flips out with this game, and the game glitches out when you try to save.

Pontos positivos: -Divertido. -Gráficos bons. Pontos negativos: -Não possui a versão de gameboy nessa versão da Steam, apesar de estar presente nos consoles. -No "The Humans 2" precisa de um código para entrar no jogo que se encontra no manual do jogo, acontece que o manual está escondido nos arquivos locais do jogo e eles não dão nenhuma pista de que está lá. Jogos divertidos, porém vou deixar negativo para ver se a Piko vê minha análise e corrija esses problemas.

Great quick levels, you can jump into when you have 10 minutes or so. Usually play no more than 20-30 mins at a go. Then may come back to in 2 weeks. To save and restore your progress you have to enter in exact phrase given on the level loading screen so take a photo with your phone or something. Been playing for 2 years now and looking forward to completing. I did discover a bug, not sure what caused it but by some glitch the game came up with the credits and completion even though was on some of the earlier levels. I like playing this with my kids and they seem to like watching, mainly it's me that plays it :)
