The Hotel is a psychological horror thriller in which the player will have to face the evil living within the walls of a lonely hotel. But more importantly, the player will have to decide what this evil is to him. Maybe the nature of this evil is deeper than it seems at first glance.

Honestly, I went in not expecting much out of the game but ended up being pleasantly surprised. The game was pretty decent for the price tag. I loved the story and enjoyed all the purgatory aspects along with the idea that deception is all around you. The game does involve a dark topic (
suicide
). The graphics are okay, nothing really good but not really bad either. The sounds are mostly okay as well, though when you get hit by the blind demons, the sound is pretty jarring (especially if you keep getting hit by them). I loved that the phone is your flashlight and thought that was pretty cute. Now, I did experience quite a few bugs, which I'm not surprised by at all. If you choose to never answer any questions, the game will say you answered that you wouldn't take a life. The subtitles option in the main screen is necessary as all the voice is still in Russian. If you get the name completely wrong, the note on the desk says "текст" over and over again (which I guess means "text"?). There's also a control setting that's in Russian but it's pretty obvious what it should mean. It only happened twice, but sometimes when starting/continuing a game, the game will get stuck in the transition without loading up the game. Overall, I did enjoy the story, especially for a cheap horror game ($1.99 USD). The game does contain jumpscares so may not be good for those who scare very easily. Also, for those who are sensitive to the dark theme (
suicide
), tread lightly as there's a specific scene in-game that might not be suitable for you. However, for horror fans who are looking for a cheap horror game, I'd say give this one a try!
Cheap but utter bollocks, not gonna waste any more time on it
I don't usually play many Indie Psychological Horror games. I feel like they tend to have all the same bad weird endings. That's when I got a message from the devs saying they'd like me to review their game. Of course, I was happy too. As soon as I jumped in it, I could feel what type of scary madness that Hotel was drawn into. I like the survival vibe there was, where you need to check your sanity as you try to run away from the devil. I would think that this is a mix of Pacify & Phasmophobia, which, am not gonna lie, really worked out. Although, I think that there is a lack of direction while blindly walking into the mazes, as I couldn't know where to go, or even how I would simultaneously get caught after respawning. But I didn't expect much from The Hotel since it came out a few weeks ago and that it's only a few bucks. Unfortunately, I found the bad ending, and I don't even know if I want to play it again to try to find the real ending after all the times I jumped out of my chair. I think many horror games are missing this specific mechanic, and it's the reason why I liked this game. Though I am a very judgemental person myself, and to make a full 'statement' of this game, I look closer to the details of the game itself. The story isn't as detailed as I thought it was when it began. Since you start receiving anonymous texts in your hotel room telling you to be careful when you leave, and that the 'demonic' staff just sent you a letter with a few questions about your comfort in this hotel, you are not so sure if you have been here for long, or if you were just about to leave. Therefore, the story follows during the gameplay without any misunderstandings. The puzzles are a classic in indie games. They are simply there to make not only the story advance through the gameplay but also to entertain and stress the player during the game. It made me think about how The Hotel makes your autonomy and self-esteem work at its 100% since there are no simple instructions and all you get is a few tips from the unknown caller. It's why the game reflects both the side of real-life and the supernatural. Overall, I enjoyed this game, even if it lasted about an hour (kinda felt like I was trapped for eternity), and the basics aren't as 'easy and basic' as someone would say. Huge thanks to the devs for letting me experience this game without any regrets. Highly recommend it. 8.7/10
No. Just no. I spent two dollars on this game and I regret it. Thank God it's short. Not scary (I don't scare easily though), not fun to play. I never had any experience with Amnesia-like games and I wanted to give it a try. This is my first one, so take that with what you will. Made it to the last area and then ended up getting a perma-death, not finishing it because it was ridiculous how difficult it was to get through for me, but I don't care. Half of the time everything is blurred and dark from being insane, and the game features the jumpiest playable character I have ever seen. A radio turns on. (Character gasps like a dying fish.) Oh no, so scary. Also the "losing all of your mental health" death screen was a bit... Much... To put it lightly. I get it's to encourage you not to die, but really?
You literally make your character hang himself.
I get there was a content warning on the description about certain subjects, but not that. Just a warning, to some audiences this game might be too intense. If you aren't in a good spot, definitely give this game a pass. Not playing this again. Wouldn't recommend. What I liked: - the graphics look good, even on the lowest settings - the voice acting not being in English - most of the themes - Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" being quoted at the beginning What I didn't like: - Everything else. Mainly the gameplay. >> enemies take up the space in the hallways where you're supposed to go >> you can't pick up the stupid pills while you have your phone out for light - the use of the stock sound effects got more of a reaction out of me than anything else in the game, made me physically cringe - the "puzzles" don't make sense to me (I'm bad at them in general though)
Interesting survival horror game for its price. It was such a terrifying experience to roam in darkness with enemies right behind you. While the enemies are not particularly fast, being forced to escape with sanity slowly depleting and very limited recovery pill makes this game so much fun. It feels like Phasmophobia but the main focus is escaping the ghost. I'm glad the developer listened to feedback and doubled the player lives making the game much friendlier now.
