For me, the highlight of this game is the combat - I like turn-based combat, and this is easily one of the most fun turn-based systems I've played. Around the point where Agony Glass is introduced it starts getting very strategic and I enjoyed how many viable options it felt like I had - e.g. you can use Agony Glass and then heal, you can fish for special items to get rid of them, or you can try to manipulate the battlefield so you avoid getting the Glass in the first place. The randomness of the battles can be frustrating something but I don't think it's nearly as bad as some other commenters have made it out to be, since it's often illusory and you can manipulate the flow of a fight to make the right items spawn more quickly. Unfortunately, that's kind of the only really stand-out element. The story and art style is very abstract and surreal, which can be appealing, but it felt underutilized here. Lumi is a foul-mouthed character with a short fuse and little patience, and she ends up feeling very out-of-place paired against all the cute stuffed animal-looking rabbits. I think it would have been better if the story ran with that out-of-place feeling, like an angsty teenager thrust into a show for little kids against her will. But since the game doesn't acknowledge this tonal clash much, the story ends up as something bland and kinda forgettable. Not awful or anything, but it never made me want to keep playing the way the gameplay did. If the story was a bit more engaging, I'd immediately recommend this game to anyone who isn't turned off by turn-based combat, but as is, $15 feels a bit pricy (for context, Hollow Knight is also $15), so as of this review I can only recommend it to people who like turn-based combat and are looking for a fresh, more puzzle-based experience.
This game isn't just beautiful, it's fun to play! I am not a fan of turn base combat however, I felt like the puzzle aspects to the fights kept things interesting! These devs have fixed several issues really quickly, so I appreciate the dedication they have for this game! This is truly a labour of love and I loved it!
Nice retro graphics. Catchy BGM. Cute MC design AND voice. Fun puzzle fights and gimmicks so far, the dialogues are also unexpectedly fun. 10/10 would recommend, should come back later to make a more detailed review.
Tiny game about a rude girl on a journey to single-handedly put an end to Australia's most destructive invasive species. The turn-based gameplay is very unique where your offensive and defensive options are also ingredients that can be combined for stronger effects or unlocking access to extra abilities, beating encounters is about meeting specific criteria and not simply wiping every enemy and sometimes you'll have to slowly build up your strength or even let some rabbits stick around for a while making combat feels a lot like a puzzle. The intro definitely could have been more thorough about explaining some of the mechanics but there's no penalties or any time waster to retry encounters so it didn't become annoying while I was still figuring stuff out. Visually it's alright, I wish the game had more enemies both for gameplay variety and to see more of those sprites. it's okay/10
It's pretty janky, but core gameplay is decent. The concept of jRPG battler/puzzle game is pretty interesting, however it has some issues. Since order of enemies and alchemy elements is random you'll sometimes have near unwinnable battle, sometimes you will be showered with resources and sometimes you will just sit and tank there for dozens of minutes waiting for proper element to spawn. Gameplay is fun but it doesn't feel very balanced. Writing is pretty good, I didn't care much about the background story, but Lumi's journey and her lines got a few chuckles out of me. Music is good, didn't get tiresome even after a while, but the bossfight theme could use better audio balancing as it's way too loud compared to other songs. As mentioned at the beginning there is some weird jank. Backing out of menu doesn't return you to the game, you have to go back to menu and press continue. Skip turn button requires you to press that button twice rather than skip -> confirm which takes a while to get used to. Once I had game hardlock on me which resulted with loss of progress afterwards which was pretty annoying considering it happened right after one of the bossfights. There are some other minor complaints but nothing gamebreaking, just some healthy dose of jank. Overall - feels like it could be a pretty good combat system for a bigger game. As it is it's about 4 hours of decent fun without much incentive to replay it. I got it for free so I can't complain but ultimately it's up to you if 4-5 hours of puzzle/tactical jRPG battles and some pretty funny lines is worth this game's asking price.
This is a fun turn-based puzzle game with some rough spots. It starts off with a tutorial that explains the basic mechanics but leaves a lot for the player to figure out on their own. I like this approach, but if you happen to be a AAA handholding simulator enjoyer, you might get overwhelmed. While I think the gameplay is pretty enjoyable, some of the battles can drag out quite a bit since you're always at the mercy of RNG and some of the stage objectives ask you to collect a lot of items. Some of the stages consist of multiple consecutive battles, and if you happen to lose in one of them, you have to start over from the beginning. An option to restart from the current battle (or the ability to see how many battles a stage consists of beforehand, for that matter) would have been appreciated, especially since I'm not looking to make a big time commitment when playing a puzzle game. Where this game really shines is the visuals. I think the art and the design of both the protagonist and the rabbits are great. The lack of animation transitions during combat (aside from the idle animation) was jarring at first but stopped bothering me after a while. Having to wait for animations would probably stop the game from feeling as snappy as it does, so I can understand why it was done this way. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is a mixed bag. Most of it is serviceable, with some pretty good tracks (like the guitar track from the trailer) and some that will make you want to mute the game (like the one that plays during the Ogre fight). Overall, it's pretty good for what I assume is the first game from a very small group of people. Definitely could use some more polish, though. Keep it up!
A simple turn based "card" game thats one sprite change away from being a touhou game. ]Story You play as a not shrine maiden who patrols her city exterminating invading monsters and closing their portals. ]Gameplay Every turn you get 3 of a specific "card" and killing monsters gives you a random card determined when the monster spawns in. You then use these cards to unlock abilities, power said abilities or create an item. Then just do whatever the current goal is to complete the level. ]Time Unless I missed something a full playthrough took me just over four hours. ]Verdict A nice little 15$ game that was fun and didnt overstay its welcome.
I've not played too much yet, but the core gameplay feels solid once you get the hang of it. The graphics are cute, and overall it's reasonably fun. I like the main character. She's fun and doesn't beat around the bush. The only thing she's beating (and kicking) are rabbits, as she should be.
