The Gallery - Episode 2: Heart of the Emberstone

I usually do not write reviews, however, this review is to help people to not buy this game for whatever reason. It does not work anymore. A windows update on Windows 10 made this not starting a year ago. It is a great game. However,. it is a shame steam still sells it despite the developers knowledge of this bug. I hope you do not buy it based on reviews. It will not work for you.

A beautiful spiritual successor to Myst in VR. Loved this. Can't believe there are no more episodes to play.

good story, fun gameplay. Really enjoy playing this game.

**Review Update: I appreciated getting a response from the developer, and what they pointed out was very valid. While I didn't enjoy this episode as much as the first, my final "frustrations" stemmed from a game that was designed for the now-defunct Vive "wand" controllers. So, I'm changing my review to "recommended", with the caveat that people who purchase should perhaps expect some slight control jank due to this being an older title. /update Overall, there is still very few VR games that can match the production values of The Gallery Ep 1 and 2. For that, I very much appreciate them -- and especially how well they hold up in Quality. That being said...I didn't enjoy this Episode. There's a lot of backtracking and -- especially near the end of the game -- the puzzles fail horribly, based on the VR mechanics they are trying to execute not working well enough, and becoming a practice of tedium and punishing trial-and-error, hoping the systems 'work'. **The 2x Organ Puzzles and the very LAST puzzle (of which I gave up and will never finish) truly broke down. There's only about 2-3 games I'd committed to finishing -- ever in my life -- that became so tedious that I said, "F*** this; game isn't worth it." This was the early days of VR though, so it's somewhat understandable that they wouldn't have everything down. I just watched a video of the ending on YouTube, and am even more grateful I just quit, because it's another cliffhanger ending, with no Ep 3 ever having been made. Being honest though, after this episode...I likely wouldn't have paid-or-played Episode 3.... I really do appreciate the production values of this game series, though!!!

I played Episode 1 7 years ago on the HTC vive! And loved it! it was a great story with some amazing puzzles! I sold the Vive shortly after as i required the space ( And a new GFX card) ....fast forward 7 years and iv just finished Episode 2!! on the Quest 3 - yes i loved it! it took me back 7 years ! the story, movement etc... yes it was a bit repetitive, but ,meh whats not these days! Defo grab episode 1+2 as a pair - dont think you will be disappointed - wish there was an Episode 3 and we can find the sister cheers

Truly nice VR game. Even though I struggled with some puzzles, I always figured it out in the end. I seriously wish there was episode 3. I'd love to see what happened to Sarah and Sebastian and what about my sister? Where's she? So many questions and I am afraid we'll never see answers to those.

Generalnie ta gra jest genialna, zarówno graficznie, jak i fabularnie. Można śmiało mówić tutaj o produkcji typu AAA dla VR. A jak wiemy, takich gier jest dosyć mało. ROZGRYWKA: Gramy na stojąco, ale miejsca nie potrzeba wiele. Niektóre łamigłówki wymagają nawet kucnięcia. Odpada jednak rozgrywka na fotelu. Przy eksploracji, w celu zakończenia gry wystarczy około 5 godzin, ale fani odblokowywania osiągnięć, pewnie spędzą w grze 2-3 razy więcej czasu. GRAFIKA: Jeśli wyznacznikiem jakości grafiki była dla Was do tej pory HL Alyx, to tutaj jest..... lepiej. Grafika jest obłędnie dobra, jedyny minus, że przy dla Oculus Quest 2, na RTX 3060Ti trzeba zmniejszyć jakość tekstur do "medium". Mimo to grafika wygląda świetnie i trzyma fpsy. Dopracowanie detali... ach.... widać, że grę tworzyli ludzie z pasją, a nie "zespół powołany przez np. EA". MECHANIKA I FIZYKA. Gra dobrze odwzorowuje fizykę, nie ma co prawda takiej swobody i eksperymentowania, jak w HL Alyx, ale i tak jest fajnie. MUZYKA i DŹWIĘK: Też doskonale, wszelkie subtelności oraz dialogi nagrane doskonale. CENA: Gra pojawia się czasem w promocji za około 25 zł, a w komplecie z pierwszą częścią za około 40. Za te pieniądze oba tytuły, to doskonała okazja.

This is the first VR game I finished in a single session. Not just because it isn't expectionally long - but mainly because it is exceptionally well done. No combat, environmental puzzles and some physical skill checks. Like Alyx, just without the meaningless mandatory bambam everywhere

One of the best VR worlds available right now. This episode has introduced strafing and rotation to the controls, making it actually accessible to normal VR players. However, I did experience a slow forward crawl (in only this game and the sandbox for it) when using smooth locomotion. There doesn't seem to be an option to adjust the deadzone or anything of the sort to fix this myself. This slow forward crawl made the final puzzle irritating to say the least!
