The First Berserker: Khazan is a great game. It's not large in scope, it's possible to get lost in some of the zones, but you'll eventually figure it out. This game was well worth the $40.00, and I am sure it goes on discount quite a bit. This is a "souls-like" but the pace of action is quite a bit faster than what you may be used to from a souls game. It's rather forgiving too, as you gain upgrades to dodge/parry timings. You also basically can go into a form that makes you invincible for a period of time too, which you transform into a demon. That too, can be upgraded. The graphic style is clean, nothing to write home about but the models all look fine. The combat is what this game really has going for it. Quick, sharp attacks with fluid controls and parry/windows make Khazan a blast to play. There are lot of QoL items that will make your journey easier or harder depending if you want to use them or not, just like most souls-games. I would recommend New Game + as you unlock legendary gear sets and other perks if you're enjoying the game and want more by the time you finish it. One minor gripe I had with the game was I felt there wasn't a much enemy variety. Here and there, you'd see something different you've not seen in the game before, but for the most part it's the same 10-15 (15 might be generous) of the same monsters to blow up. I wish they put more into it in that aspect, but it was a smaller project. It should be mentioned: The dev team was laid off. The game didn't sell up to standards, unfortunately. So I do not see any patches or updates coming to this game, but what is here is a fun, enjoyable experience where you can put in a solid 20-30 hours depending on how fast you get through the content. Pick it up on a sale if you enjoy the genre. Give it a couple hours to see how the combat flows with you. It's a great game that passes the time and has very, very few bugs. They ironed a lot of stuff off before the steam was laid off.
It's pretty fun so far. If you like Souls-like games like DS 1, 2, or 3, Sekiro, or games like Nioh 1,2, or 3, you'll probably like this one too. It's fun and a little different, I wished I could jump but that's my only gripe so far, it plays closer to a mix of Dark Souls 3 and Nioh 2 with Sekiro like deflects and perfect dodges, if I had to compare it more directly. I wish there were more weapon types too, but the combat itself is fun, and satisfying. It has the satisfying component I often find when playing Nioh 2 or 3. I like the art style of the game too. But yeah it probably plays closer to Nioh than it does Dark Souls IMO, esp with the timed parry and perfect dodge, I LOVE having a dedicated parry/deflect button, and perfect dodge so that's awesome. You have various skill trees for each of your weapon types and can learn more moves, add a little bit to your combos, etc. I like it so far though, it just sucks there probably won't be a 2nd game. The first one's sales weren't what the devs expected so, they may not make another; which is unfortunate, I'd love to see what these guys are capable of with a 2nd game. Esp if they expanded on the system they already have, add jumping/jump attacks/combos, more weapon types, I'd love to see these guy's make another game like this one, just expanded. But hey on the brightside, Wo Long 2 is coming out early 2027!!! Plus we got Phantom Blade Zero AND Valor Mortis coming out in October this year, Onimusha: WotS this year in September, plus Nioh 3's DLC in September as well. We souls-like enjoyers will have our hands full this fall and the coming new year and I'm all for it. I digress, Khazan is a solid game if you like any of the other games I mentioned, or games like Elden Ring, Nioh 1,2, or 3, Sekiro, Dark Souls 1,2, or 3, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Rise of the Ronin, hell even Ghost of Tsushima a little bit. Not Ghost of Yogay though *cough cough* I mean Yotei.
Character models are anime af but the world was surprisingly detailed. Combat is tight af but gets repetitive a lil quick. Get on sale
best at every thing 10/10
На самом деле не ждал много от игры, но был приятно удивлен и без особых проблем закрыл игру на 100%, боссы не сильно сложные, дольше всех сопротивлялся Озма, но даже так не более 2-х часов заняло.
TLDR: This game is absolutely amazing, though I can see how many could dislike it. Long Response: The First Berserker Khazan is possibly one of the best action games to come out of the 2020s, with combat that feels fresh, rewarding, and very, VERY fluid. However, if you are looking for a Soulslike experience more similar to something like Elden Ring, DO NOT PICK THIS GAME UP!! Although this game uses the guise of a traditional soulslike, it’s much more similar to something like Nioh, using a hub world to transfer between areas, and providing extremely linear level design. That being said, the level design never felt stale, as each section of the game brought forth new ideas that, though used frequently in other games, never felt like a slog to get through. Additionally, if you are a fan of game like Sekiro, as I am, you will adore this game, as the overarching parry-attach mechanics feel uniform in both games. Furthermore, this game has boss design second to only Sekiro, itself, in my opinion, as bosses never feel like they are throwing new, poorly used mechanics your way, but they rather function as a complicated dance between player and enemy that never once felt punishing outside of the issue of “getting gud.” Overall, I’d give this game a solid 9/10. It’s not for everyone, but those who like similar games will have the time of their lives getting through this one.
Really good soulslike, tight combos and amazing weapon and skill versatility. Intresting female designs although sometimes flanderised. Story is really good and tragic, ties into another game I dont know about but imagine cool for fans
Are all these reviews from people who haven't touched Sekiro, Wukong or Elden Ring yet? I played them all and loved all of them as i did dark souls series in the past. This doesn't get close to any of them on any level. I started this game last year and lost interest and hope right after the 2h mark so couldn't refund. This year decided to just force finish it. Still a bit to go, but it never got any better from the first 2 hours: - The story and world building are extremely uninteresting and bland. Zero atmosphere. - The cutscenes are bad and are poorly connected to the gameplay. No memorable moments at all. Just check Wukong or God of War and you see the difference. - The mob variation including elites feels extremely small and they are copy pasted to almost every level no matter in what "environment" you are in. After defeating the same elite enemy for the 20th time, you start to think that the enemies are just picked randomly and placed anywhere to make it take longer for you to reach the boss door. - The side missions are just running through the same areas fighting the same enemies again. A chore, not a joy. - The difficulty difference between all the enemies of a level including elites, and the boss is insane. You just hack and slash your way to the boss door with max 2 potion usages thinking "oh wow i'm pretty strong". And then the boss will kill you a dozen times even while summoning the assistant to help out. So you wonder why even bother having anything between the starting point and the boss door? You literally find nothing along the way except the same things to hack down. - The lack of the ability to jump feels so outdated and breaks the little immersion you have tried to build when the character cant lift a leg to get over a stick. - The amount of gear you get is high, but you do nothing with them. Almost like a Diablo game. The difference is that the gear makes very little difference in anything so you just keep stockpiling them and then turning them into leveling up points. - Theres nothing unique, special or cool how this game would differentiate from the others. The title mentions "Berserker", but don't go expecting any "berserkering" moments. Elden ring had horseriding and open world, wukong had flying and very unique spells, god of war had a movie like game experience, dark souls had an amazing atmosphere. What is the speciality of this game? The only good thing i can think of this game is the ability to reroll stats and skills including weapons stats. The rest is just an uninteresting chore you pay 60 € for.
