Note: This game is a sequel to The Fairy’s Song, and it is highly recommended that you play it to have the full context of this game’s story. Two years after the events of The Fairy’s Song, Marnie and Lisbeth return to Fenchapel, England to visit Marnie’s grandmother, as Marnie will soon be attending college and won’t have as much time to spare for her “Gran.” However, when they arrive, they immediately see someone alive who should be dead … given that Lisbeth killed him two years ago. Praises • Excellent writing, as per usual from ebi-hime. • More character development for Marnie and Lisbeth within their romantic relationship. • Lovely artwork, from the character portraits and backgrounds to the CGs. • Extras include CG Gallery, Music, and Notes from dev. • Occasional history tidbits and modern pop culture references. Complaints • Part of the ending seemed rather gratuitous. Super spoilery explanation:
Leofe, Edmund’s sister and Lisbeth’s best friend, comes back to life (for about 10 minutes) from Marnie’s pendant. However, the explanation for how that came to be is kinda weak and while I guess it’s nice to finally see Leofe in person in the story, it just seemed all way too good to be true for what a magic pendant can do. She’s also the one that revived Edmund, but claims she did it with power from Marnie’s pendant … but the pendant wasn’t present? Or does she mean, like, residual power? Either way, that was also a weak reason. A weak, barely-clinging-to-the-living-world spirit should not be able to revive someone to life, with or without a magic pendant. I just hate it when magic has no rules in stories.
• One typo. Despite my issue with the ending, I enjoyed it. I do like the first story a bit more, but that’s typical. This was a nice continuation in getting to see what Marnie and Lisbeth were up to and how Lisbeth was adjusting to modern life. Their romantic moments were rather cute as well. I recommend it to those who read the first visual novel.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1244260/The_Fairys_Song/
a good Visual Novel. can recommend it . sweet girls. the price of this game is in offer for -40% alright.
The Fairy's Secret is a very good visual novel game with a beautiful story. The graphics are nice and the soundtrack is relaxing... The ebi-hime games are really great!!! I highly recommend it. 💗
Steam Deck Experience: Playable
You'll need to stick with the touch screen or mouse controls. It's good. Not great, but good. I'm not completely sure the last one needed a sequel, and this one didn't really match my expectations. There is a lot of unnecessary text and the banter between characters is a bit excessive and not that funny. They also really like to reiterate things a lot. Sometimes even after it's just been said. It is still an alright story though. It still follows Marnie and Lizbeth (primarily) on an adventure back into the forest.
Make Chinese and English speaker feel at home: Bilingual Curator
A great sequel to fairy's song!
The Fairy's Song wasn't my favorite VN, but it was light and fun enough and I was invested enough in the leads that I was genuinely quiet excited to take a look at the sequel. Rarely do romance VNs get direct sequels and more so do you rarely get a chance to follow leads as an established romance, especially not one that relies on drama within the relationship. i'm happy to say in that the game managed both, All conflict in the story has nothing to do with the question of if they will stay together. They're a good couple, fairy magic is to be worried about, but not rehashing the will they wont they, also there is a great deal of time spent on just them going on dates which oddly enough worked for me as the best parts of this VN. They're cute, charming, not overly long but not cut down for the sake of traditional pacing. Initially I had some criticism of the core story and Edmund especially, but after reading the notes I think I came to the conclusion that my issues don't deal with him at all. He's genuinely funny, helpful enough to not feel like a useless drag but never even hinted at being a threat to the relationship which is what I was so worried about, but his increased importance really struck me with my Marnie issue. Marnie was always a little sarcastic and petulant, a cute goth trying a bit too hard, none of which is a bad thing, however I was hoping to see her emotionally... grow a little? It's been two years, and her gripes are the same, diatribes are the same, and stuff that fit for a young teen feel a little... off for an 18 year old. While in the story she grows, being more brave in the relationship and in one instance turning a scene I initially didn't like of Marnie rejecting Lisbeths interest into one about choosing to engage with a partners interest, but especially at the start she comes off as exceptionally childish, especially next to Lisbeth of which has so obviously grown as a person and who is characterized much more strongly as a young adult. This compiled with the unfortunate fact that Marnie is... very mundane. She is rarely an agent in the plot, very little happens due to her actions which, isn't uncommon for VN plots that especially use their leads as self inserts, but Marnie is so opinionated and characterized her always being saved and doing little to push the plot forward feels mistaken, I had hoped it was her magic that did certain plot point, giving her power and agency in a world of fey and magic and knights, but no, its another character she just sorta was about and motives Lisbeth and Edmunds heroic tale. This isn't a blanket condemnation, most vns tragically have disengaged leads and are far more guilty of it than here, but I had hoped for something more evocative in that department, but with that side I find it easily worth it for what it really works as, a story of girls who are on a vacation together, committed together, doing stuff together and there really isn't many narratives that cover that part of relationship. Also I will say the game is full of unique assets and cgs some of the highest like per playtime density of them I've seen in a while so like, if that's your jam its a beautiful game, and as usual the dialogue is, whether or not its your jam, unique and full of character as you can expect from all this writers work. Largely if you like Fairy's song, you like her secret too I think, likely even more imo. If you didn't I don't think it'll shake your world. Either way, I enjoyed my time for my money and look forward to playing more of Ebi's work in the future and who knows, maybe see more of Marnie and Lisbeth in college?
It's a cute, fluffy yuri romance~
