ENIGMA TECHNOLOGIES invites you to delve into the mind of an AI. Seamlessly blending first-person exploration with point-and-click mechanics, THE ENIGMA MACHINE's completely unique presentation offers an increasingly unnerving atmosphere.

Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.22/day in the week to Aug 4 → 0.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Don't think I've ever been enjoying a game so much only to have a bug rip me out of the experience quite like this one did. Experienced the same game breaking bug that others have mentioned (with zero response from the dev) in reviews and wandered around for a solid 2 hours thinking there was something I was missing.

⭐My score: 8.5/10 TL;DR: a short but deeply fascinating prelude to one of the most hauntingly beautiful indie retro sci-fi sagas on Steam.
Overview
The beauty of this game lies in its presentation and storytelling—gameplay-wise, it’s little more than a walking sim with a few twists. The retro-futuristic vibe, complete with VHS-style filters, fonts, and sound effects, really feels like a quick trip back to the early 1990s. The plot is eerie, intriguing, short, but highly effective. Most of all, it works as a prelude to one of the best indie retro sci-fi trilogies I’ve ever played.
Key Points
[*]
DIFFICULTY:
Some puzzles require patience and a bit of lateral thinking. [*]
PRESENTATION:
Outstanding visuals and sound design. [*]
STORY:
Very story-driven, and genuinely compelling. [*]
GAMEPLAY/GAMEPLAY LOOP:
You explore small areas, looking for clues and codes to input into computer terminals. [*]
TECHNICAL POLISH:
I didn’t encounter any bugs or glitches—though it’s hard to tell at times, since some elements look intentionally glitchy. [*]
MONEYxCONTENT VALUE:
Cheap, but very short and with no Steam achievements. You’ll get the most value from the bundle with the full trilogy (this, Mothered, and Echostasis). ➡️https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/41914/THE_ENIGMA_TRILOGY/
You've recently volunteered to test for your aptitude as a RADE agent for the Enigma Corporation! As part of your final training, you're testing with a simulated environment provided by an AI companion 'demOS'. Ready to get your hands dirty? THE ENIGMA MACHINE is a sci-fi horror story about the meanings we assign to things and the roles we end up playing, as you explore a series of levels to retrieve codes to enter into the demOS interface to resolve 'corruption'. The game itself is fairly straightforward with the puzzles you're presented, and after getting a specific upgrade it gets simpler still, but it's a gorgeous piece of work with a solid storyline and art direction.
I enjoyed the game a lot, but I did encounter a couple of bugs. There were a few times where I opened a terminal and it would not allow me to enter text. The only remedy for this was Alt + F4 as the quit command would not enter either. [SPOILERS IN THIS NEXT SECTION] I guess it's not much of a spoiler since the store page shows you have a gun. Anyway, I was unable to fire the gun until I changed my monitor's refresh rate to 60 (from 144) and restarted. In my playthrough, I had to restart the game about 5 times (once for refresh, about 4 times for being unable to enter terminal commands). All things considered, I very much enjoyed the game. I like this, Mothered (though I did need a tutorial to finish it), and I look forward to playing Echostasis! I love the aesthetic of your games and the sound tracks. Even the little things like the screen boarder mimicking a CRT monitor. All of the effects created a sense of immersion I don't often experience. Conversing with demOS and learning more about him as his contamination levels increase was super fun.
really cool atmosphere, really short but definitely worth it if you enjoy story and world building. This game sets up for the enigma trilogy.
Good idea, poor execution. Although the story is cool, I can't recommend it. The story is an interesting look at AI sentience and I really liked the start. However, you have to make it run like trash for a key mechanic to work and at that point I couldn't complete the game because it resulted in a bunch of other issues. First game that I just decided to watch the end on YouTube. Hoped the second would be better, but instead of this series I wish I'd just bought something else tbh.
I can't remember whether everyday people were thinking about the concept of LLMs hallucinating in 2018 but this guy seemingly was. Excellent little puzzle adventure, really enjoyed
