Quite possibly the Elder Scrolls' finest hour. My favorite will probably always be Morrowind, but I happily accept any arguments for Daggerfall or Arena. In Skyrim there's a certain Zen following the main quest and going up the big mountain and finding the Snow Troll in a truly intentional and fantastic RPG/FPS experience! The design of this game speaks for itself, but that moment in the main quest is what really blows my hair back! Zen Action FPS RPG heaven! I could fight that thing for hours....back and forth....back and forth....attack and heal....attack, attack, and retreat back down the mountain.....heal...attack and heal....and then more snow falls....I would just be frozen in time, enjoying myself and plowing through an Elder Scrolls grind with maximum blitz satisfaction. I repeated this experiment numerous times with numerous character styles and aquired god-like abilities in a few hour. The combat system is top notch! The quests tend to be small and easy but enjoyable and creative. There are plenty of challenges for all players and easter eggs for those who are patient. The opening segment is only upstaged by Oblivion and Patrick Stewart in an Elder Scrolls game. Please try to upstage Patrick Stewart! Please! I dare you! I triple dog dare you! Stewart was the perfect voice for Emperor of the Empire of Tamriel 3E Uriel Septim the....something er....other? I digress! This game here is Skyrim, the most Nordic of all the Kingdoms of the Empire of Tamriel. This is the home of the most famous Elder Scrolls Meme of them all!!! See if you can find it. My only complaint is a bug, in the ol' Elder Scrolls tradition, involving my hording habits in nearly any game setting.. Even after all these years after Daggerfall, I can still lose an Elder Scrolls character to a game bug. Purchasing property in Daggerfall was always a challenge, but here it's pretty straight forward in Skyrim. Unfortunately I'm such a pack-rat that I tend to crash my character when I enter the house that I've built and put all my stuff in! Ug! So much frustration and lack of interest in the forums, how silly of me. The Elder Scrolls bug is a gaming tradition going back decades. Another reason I love this game so much is because of a tattoo of all things. I once ran into a guy and saw the dragonborn tattoo on his forearm and made an instant friend! Take in mind that I typically dislike tattoos, but any tattoo involving Fallout or The Elder Scrolls is a winner in my non-tattooed universe! The way time has treated Skyrim is practically a force of nature. I've had more conversations in more pubs and coffee shops about Skyrim than another other Elder Scrolls game. Skyrim represents the most perfect evolution of The Elder Scrolls into something in the American unconscious. A force of nature. An internet meme. Somewhere beyond the shores of oblivion and the volcanoes of Dagoth Ur, there are those of us who remember the Daggerfall cult of PC gaming Nerds back the day. Always remember, Daggerfall is but a city, Skyrim is an entire Imprerial province. Thou shalt not be disappointed.
amazing
I own it on every console (and PC) I own, and have no regrets in having done so! An absolutely classic RPG with more available mods (on PC) than anyone could possibly want! There's so much to say about this and none of it would be as compelling as just saying 'buy it now - if you haven't already'.
