The Dwarves

Na. Ha szeretsz izomból orkokat orrba gyűrni egy mélynövésű, széftermetű fickóval, akkor ez a játék neked szól. Alapvetően kompetens, amire vállalkozik, azt teljesíti. Plusz: Ad egy rendes történetet, aminek van eleje, közepe, vége. Vannak hangszínészek, narrátor, tisztességes munkát végzett mindenki. A motor jól támogatja a felülnézeti pofozkodást, tömegjeleneteket is kezel. A harcrendszer érdekes, a normál verekedés akciópontokat generál, amikből speciális támadásokra költhetsz, és lehet tarolni. Hozza a törpe fílinget, becsület és arany és fémművesség. Vannak benne olyan fordulatok, amikre nem számítottam, elég penge. Ízlés dolga: A fejlesztési fa kicsit egyszerű, mint egy lovecrafti zsákfalu családfája. Megérezni rajta a költségvetést, bizonyos sztori fordulatok elbírtak volna némi kifejtést és csicsát. A sztori belső egyensúlyain lehet vitatkozni, egyszerűnek bonyolult, bonyolultnak meg egyszerű. Mínusz: Kamerakezelés, a nagyobb pályákon megtalálni a célterületet felér egy vonatszerencsétlenséggel. A szövetséges egységeknek még alapszinten sem lehet utasítást adni, ami különösen akkor életszerűtlen, ha mondjuk felbéreltél egy kupac zsoldost némi problémamegoldásra - ők inkább a probléma részeként definiálták magukat. Szóval azt a pár eurót, amiért mérik, szerintem megéri, pozitív emlékeim lesznek róla. Fo' Vraccas.

Nette Geschichte aber das Gameplay ist sehr sperrig. Also nicht unbedingt zu empfehlen.

Das Spiel hat ein ansprechendes Artwork und eine gute Story. Das Gameplay macht Spass, ist aber leider etwas einseitig mit der Zeit. Weshalb ich das Spiel nicht empfehlen kann, sind die vielen Bugs, die es einem ziemlich verleiden.

Book: Dwarves defend their fortresses from the walls, rarely launch a sortie. Game: Dwarves jump from the wall into the ranks of the attackers and find themselves outnumbered. Book: 40 vs 40,000. Game: 15 vs 200. The game is neither faithful to the book nor consistent in itself. For example, I won this fight at the start of the game but still was (somehow) defeated: story must go on. Also, important bits of the story (in the book) are entirely cut out or implemented weakly. You do not get the whole picture, if you play the game, without knowing the book, but if you do it anyway, you still get a bad picture on its own. I had fun with the game, nonetheless. Especially the traveling and exploration on the world map are aspects I liked very much. The book only describes the “important” parts of the journey of our hero, so the devs introduced some new content here, including side quests with decisions and new characters. But regardless of what you do, you will spend a lot of your time fighting orcs and this can become frustrating, because it is very hard. No problem, you could say, set the difficulty to very easy. But guess what, it is still hard and occasionally, I even died. You totally can manage the fights anyway, but this aspect was not the part of the game, that kept me going. With more and even harder fights, the contrary would be the case. So only give it a try, if you like tactic / action RPGs. But do not expect deep mechanics here, because you cannot individualize your party: choose one talisman (provides buffs) and select 2 out of 3 special abilities, that’s it for most of the game. Then there is the story, it’s the main driver of the game, but as I said earlier it is not always good if you know the story, and the same is true, if you do know nothing (John Snow). So, I can’t really recommend the game. Does not mean it’s bad overall or you cannot have fun with it, I had. But, in my opinion, it makes more things wrong than right. Hear the book or watch lets plays if you (only) find the story interesting and if you want to engage in such a combat system, I am sure there are other titles with deeper mechanics that provide a better experience in this regard.

Hatte das Game schon lange auf meiner Liste. Macht richtig spaß und die Geschichte ist auch klasse. Kann ich nur empfehlen!

The Dwarves aren't a big game, and that's allright. I really liked the way the narration was executed, you can clearly see the book it is based on. The characters are interesting, and there are some minor choices here and there. I enjoyed the combat, it was fun. The heroes' abilities are executed awesomely, and you really have to focus on tactics sometimes so you don't get cut down. I ran into one bug, I had to reload because my save got corrupted, which ruined the impression a bit for me. A special plus is the cult band Blind Guardian who recorded a song for the game, and there is even a mini-quest included that serves as a homage to them. The dwarves were cool, it has flaws, and it isn't for everyone, but my general rating is a seven.
