I finished this little gem of a game in about 16 to 17 hours of playtime (I played offline). The average difficulty for me was easy to normal and overall it felt well balanced. I am playing these games to relax and do not care for challenging fights that make me want to smash my keyboard to smithereens :) So I am always happy when the default difficulty is not too hard. Some bosses were a bit more tough but absolutely beatable with a bit of strategy and patience. Grinding is minimal. I had always enough gold to buy supplies or found useful stuff on the way through the game. By the end of the game, I had still plenty of gold left. The people in your party have different skills and abilities, some more offensive, some more defensive. Mix and match to your hearts desire for interesting fights. I loved the character and enemy art and the battle backgrounds were especially beautiful. The music is surprisingly catchy and enjoyable. Normally I mute a game and have my own playlist, but in this case I had good fun with the ingame music the whole time. The dungeons are not overly big and confusing and also well designed. The MP/SP replenishing system is very helpful. The members of the party have no big, convoluted and epic backstories, but there is enough story there to develop a relationship with them. Also they do not just tag along quietly behind the main protagonist but there is banter and humour and references to other (previous) games by the same developer. And of course to some other popular media, if you know where to look (maybe elseweyr lol). Sidequests are not over the top and you have a journal, so you can't get lost. As for travel: you do not have to walk and backtrack endlessly for the whole entirety of the game, you get "help" with travelling later on in variouy ways. You can build your own town, too, which is a neat addition. As for the optional dungeon: you can finish the game without completing it just fine. I only went as far as floor 13 and then got back to the game because I wanted to continue the story. Now I will continue with the dungeon and see how far I get :D I can only recommend this game and also it's predecessors. You can play it standalone, but it is nicer and feels more rounded with a bit of the backstory. I enjoyed my first playthrough immensely and am looking forward to starting a new game after some time. Buy it, play it, you won't regret it. And as Landy said: See you next game! ;)
Another winner rpg from Landy. Engrossing story, fast combat with plenty of different creatures and monsters and bosses, 8 characters to select from with different skills, interesting quests, made this rpg a must play. Plenty of equipment to buy and find with great graphics and many hours of enjoyment. Already looking forward to the 4th game in this series. A bigtime bonus is that the developer responds quickly to answer any questions and fixes bugs immediately (a rarity with Steam rpgs). Highly recommended.
If you enjoy rpg style games this is worth picking up. It has story, exploration, and a deep dive dungeon to amass treasures from. Several characters to play with as you progress, making it easy to change up play style. Highly recommend this indie game.
What I've played of this game, it's definitely fun and interesting! Story mode for when you want to explore and experience the world, and a deep dungeon style section for when you want to fight loads of monsters and try your luck with treasures. Creator did a great job with this one, imo. Would definitely recommend if you like these indie RPGs, and moreso if you played the first two in the series.
Well thought out and implemented game. I was thinking about what I would say for this review when I read Kapzette's review. He said it perfectly and much more eloquently than I ever could. I endorse everything he said and give the game my highest recommendation. Well worth the purchase.
The game is well put together, funny and has decent gameplay with quality of life things like quick travel and the ability to stop monster battles once you get sick of them. If you've played the previous dragon's twilight games or like decent rpg's this fits the bill.
Overall, a good game. Even if I wish there had been a bit more background information on the individual characters. I would give it 8 out of 10 stars. What didn't particularly convince me was this Rift. It's all well and good that they offer a virtually endless dungeon (endless = 100 levels). But the rewards for completing it leave a lot to be desired. Better gear... all well and good. But the items are so rare. And then there's (in my opinion) the unfairness of the enemies. From around level 30-40 (I can't remember), they start beating the party to pieces. While you don't have any opportunity to grind. Okay, you can take the special gear you find with you on your next visit... but the enemies are still far too difficult, and items for healing and replenishing SP/MP are too rare. As with most J-RPGs, the special features or interesting rewards end around the middle of the game. After that, you just work through the remaining dungeons until you reach the final boss. With a lot of downtime (the game continued while I watched a movie), I finished it in just over 30 hours.
Don't much like this game. The hunger is unnecessary and serves no useful purpose in a game like this. I don't mind grinding but I didn't even get a weapon to use for two of my people until I got to a town. Also, the graphics were disappointing after playing his other games. But I'll give it a thumbs up because the developer is nice and you might like it.
I am enjoying the game very much. There is lots to do and I love how it has different difficulty settings. The journal for quests is always a nice addition. I am however bummed, I tried to beat the boss in the volcano to the south so I could obtain the heart of the betrayer. I couldn't beat her so I left and went and defeated other dragons. When I went back to the volcano, she is still on the throne but will no longer interact with me so I can not engage in battle. I don't think I will be able to finish the game now because I have no save files from before I tried her the first time and I have way to many hours in to restart the whole game. It was a fun game, perhaps the developer can apply a fix for this issue.
Awesome!
