About
Chapter 2 OUT NOW!
From the young developer of Games such as "Overnight 2", "Buried Beneath" (Floating head game) and "Slender Adrift" comes a new experience.
This was made by a 15 year old.
“The Designer’s Curse”, a First Person Survival Horror Game inspired by the works of the most influential old school horror games, such as Amnesia and Penumbra, this game allows you to delve into the depths of Shaw Well Manor, finding your way through the castle reminding yourself of what you have created. With help of Original Soundtrack by Mikko Tarmia (Composer for Amnesia and Soma), this game really creates an atmosphere of fear and dread.
Explore the depths of this mansion knowing the fact that you are not alone, and you’re being hunted by the most terrifying beings, created by the protagonist himself.
Controls are listed in the games main menu and pause menu. Note, this game has no controller support, a mouse and keyboard is needed.

"The Designer's Curse" is a low key asset flip, looks like it was made from a bunch of other people's assets assembled badly to make a basic game, typically this kind of thing is done by amateur developers without sufficient budget, talent and/or staff to do the job of game development professionally. It's then quickly rushed into Steam Direct. And, unsurprisingly, this never results in a product with any quality, interest, or value for gamers. Likelihood of this being an asset flip aside, it's indistinguishable from the others. This is yet another first person horror jumpscare adventure game. Difference here is that this is just a blatant advertisement for the full game which you have to unlock for $5 as "Chapter 2". This game is fairly dated at 6 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. As an advertisement, this is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer provides a number of reasons that explain the failure of this garbage, but do not excuse them. The developer was not qualified at the time of this game to make games professionally, but, to pad their ego and to the detriment of gamers, went ahead and published their garbage anyway. Why is this good for gamers? It's absolutely not. The developer claims this is their first time trying to make a game. If I went to a restaurant, got sick from eating bad food, and got told "The chef is new and has never cooked food before", would that make it okay? No, it wouldn't. The developer supplied a very valid reason why this should never have been put up for sale on Steam in the first place. The developer admits they didn't hire a team of talented staff to produce the game and tried to do the whole thing on their own, instead. This is a lot like boarding an airplane, and halfway through the flight, having the pilot come out and serve peanuts. It's going to end in disaster. It requires a team of competent people to do a complex job properly, and that's not what has happened here... another explanation for the poor quality of this game. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this advertisement to anyone.

Awesome game. Quick, scary, fun, and enjoyable. I finished the game withing 30 minutes, yet it left me wanting to play more. Loved it, 8/10, severely underrated, especially as it is free and well made.
jumpscare suck
Kind of a pain to play
remids me of amnesia a little
Nice game, keep it up!
