About
Deliver Them From Darkness
Come to see what all this is about, have you? Right then, I'll fill you in. The Deadly Path is a thrilling building management and roguelike real-time strategy game. It's down to you to do some serious grovelling, gathering and building if you want to survive it. See, you're the Custodian, and you're in the bad books with the fearsome gods of the Dread Pantheon who you're trapped here with.
If you ever want to see the dim light of day again, you'll need to keep these Dread Deities sweet. And that means bringing about their rightful ascension...by whatever means necessary.
Anyway, down here in this grimly fascinating fantasy underworld, you've got to flex your strategic muscles. The Deadly Path's got an easy-to-pick-up but tricky-to-master game loop; the gods aren't planning on making it easy for you.
Still, it's not all stick and no carrot. You'll get to dote on different dastardly deities, construct wicked dungeon defences, and gather vital and vile materials. You know, for upgrades, sacrificial rituals, demonstrating your devotion, all the usual demonic deeds.
As you expand your burgeoning empire of darkness, you'll usher in new eras of progress and help the Dread Pantheon out on their quest for revenge. Oh, and you get to micromanage a whole gamut of rancid but otherwise dutiful servants. Sounds fun, eh?
Here's some of the gritty details:
An epic roster of demonic Dread Deities to prove yourself to, each with its own gameplay quirks, perks and victory conditions.
Excavate a riveting range of Entombed Tiles as you expand your base.
Construct unique buildings, boneyards and fabricators to bolster your stockpiles.
Defend the Dread domain from attackers and other unseen threats with your servant army.
Advance through the Ages to unlock and uncover new tiles, loot, minions and possibilities.
Gain the aid of the Custodians and wield the power of Charms.
Forge a powerful Idol to appease each of the Dread Deities as you toil in preparation for their ascension.
Manage all of that, and you might just make it through The Deadly Path in one piece.

Part of me really wants to recommend this so consider it more of a mixed review than a straight downvote. The timed econ management is right up my alley and the random tile reveals and building unlocks combined with the challenges and god variety make each run feel unique. When it's working as it's supposed to I greatly enjoy it. The issue is that it has quite a few bugs. Some runs the cycle timer stops working leading to the run becoming trivial. Some runs your buildings will stay when they're supposed to be depleted(more of a problem than it sounds as the depleted tiles have their own use). Sometimes it just crashes late in a run, which is made worse by there being no save feature in the middle of a run. If you've got a high tolerance for putting up with bugs I'd say go ahead and buy it, I know I have a higher one than most which is why I'm not giving this a recommendation though. The good news here is that the devs have done the hard part, they've made a fun game for those of us who are into this type that's simply dragged down by things that can be fixed. If the bugs are fixed I'd put it right up there with Against the Storm, which is one of my favorite games of the past few years.
I really hate having to leave a negative review for this game because conceptually, I think it's a great little game. Art is nice, the lore is interesting, the idea is fun. But the UI is so janky it's almost unplayable. Pausing the game can cause interface issues that will force you to abandon a run because things will become unclickable. Even without the pause bugs, the pause mechanic is poorly conceived and don't work fully in the "real time strategy" sense. You also can't zoom out far enough to see the entire game board, which makes game play very clunky and annoying. In order to enjoy the positive aspects of the game, which definitely exist, you have to push through so many of these bugs and similar issues. Hopefully these things can be addressed by the devs. I think the review could have been a positive one if these issues were resolved.
I gave this a shot in spite of mixed reviews. Setting aside the pause function being wonky and unreliable, and the very, very short music loop, I found that I wasn't having fun with the game. There are no significant choices to make or strategies to employ. Do I have enough bones? No?--> Make Bone Farm. Yes?--> Do I have enough Meat? No-->Make Meat Farm Yes?--> Do I have enough gold? No-->Make Gold Farm. You just follow this mindless flow chart while the game is going "boots and cats and boots and cats and womp womp womp womp, womp womp womp womp. boots and cats and boots and cats and womp womp womp womp, womp womp womp womp." and when you try to pause it to follow the flow chart it will randomly unpause when you click some elements but not others. Added: Oh-- and the thing that first drew me in, the different gods and avatars that I thought would act like Thea or Civilization, which I had hoped would bring crunchy and interesting play styles and advantage/disadventages were actually just difficulty modes settings and which stage of the campaign you were in.
Just not good enough for me. It's an interesting game and fairly priced, but I couldn't see myself returning. I was excited when I saw all the different characters to unlock and play, but once I realized these are more of a difficulty slider, I got pretty discouraged. The game is a bit wonky. For example, if you pause the game while there is text on the screen from something like the Killing Moon event, it just stays there. So you have to unpause and wait for the text to go away and pause again so you can actually see. The controls get a little weird at time when dragging locations. Like the game will stick your mouse to a location and have a weird delayed drag. It's an interesting concept, but at the end of the day it's just placing buildings and waiting. It's a resource management style game where you try to keep up with the ever increasing upkeep costs while constantly having to expand as your tiles become exhausted of resources. You have goals to meet like building a certain building or defending against X amount of raIds. My biggest gripe is that this is supposed to be a real time game, but the visibility options are not very good. The grid starts filling up and becomes a giant cluster ****. Even fully zoomed out you still have to drag the board around to see things. This really made the game feel like a chore to play, especially when they start introducing raids where enemies will attack your tiles. At this point, keeping up with what was happening with the poor visibility became more of a chore than a fun game. It's just not polished or fun enough for me to keep. Best of luck to the devs.
in this day and age, i rarely negative review, but this one should be considered a open beta, and the devs should get feedback to make the final finish.. it's missing too much QoL stuff and gets to be a pain if u wanna play fast, no hotkeys does not help this premise and i hope the devs make some nice updates but i doubt it, the moment i wrote something in discord it was more of a funny reply and more made fun of then taken serious
A balance pass may save it but until then you are too much at the mercy of the RNG, and I say this as someone who likes randomness in games. It's an exercise in frustration
I love the gameplay. There are some questionable design choices around the pause mechanic, but otherwise the gameplay is stellar. I am very much enjoying the game and the gameplay. Unfortunately the game has quite a few bugs that are less enjoyable. Some can be game ending. Like reinstall game ending. I encountered one, but round 2 of install has been better. Because of the questionable design choice to not have saves during a run, when the game crashed near the end of a difficult run (and this game is very difficult). Only happened once but was still very offputting. If this was an Early Access release I would be much more kind, but there are some very unforgivable bugs at the moment. It doesn't feel like it was quite ready for primetime. I would love to give this a recommend and hope some day I can. For now be cautious and know that you're getting a fun game marred by a few choices and bugs. If you can tolerate that, you'll enjoy this, but for now I can't recommend it.
I put off playing this game for a bit of time. I saw the negative reviews and hesitated diving in. The reviews are for the most part on point. There is an amazingly good idea here that is weighed down heavily by bad UI and missing QOL features. Given there has been zero updates or patches since launch to address these problems, I cannot in good faith recommend this game.
不要买,首先这个游戏玩法不平衡,具体下面有人讲了,其次这游戏的开发商不管这游戏了,别抱期待
I'd been keeping an eye on this one for a while, it looked interesting but given the bad reviews I thought I'd wait until a patch was released before buying,.. 6 months later there's still no patch but it was out there at 60% off so I thought I'd give it a go. It's a good game but with some significant flaws - the pause thing is annoying - doing just about everything unpauses but you need to continually pause to work out what to do next, especially when it gets busy towards the end of a run. Likewise the animated text that appears sometimes doesn't disappear until you unpause which again is annoying as you'll be trying to plan what you're going to do but can't see past the text. There are bugs - sometimes upgrade cards are offered that actually downgrade your cards - one's you've already used! Other times buildings randomly cost a massive amount more - I just lost a run because Hovel went from costing 40 bone and 2 gold to 2000 bone and 40 gold completely out of the blue, I didn't check the price since I knew it (and I had something like 500 bone and 50 gold) and should have been able to comfortably afford it, instead it took all my resources in the middle of a killing moon. Also ridiculously you can't save your game during a run and instead have to play through in one go - it's such a basic feature and it feels how you might leave something in a demo or alpha/beta version. Runs take about 1-2 hours (I'm only at the second stage and presumably they might go longer than that later) and I've already had to ditch on in progress since I had plans. Really the game could do with a patch to sort some of these things but to me it looks abandoned which is a shame as it's original, and as others have mentioned scratches a bit of the same itch as Cultist simulator but without the tedious randomness and so much waiting. I'd recommend only picking up on a heavy discount and be prepared for some frustration as you'll quickly run into the above issues (and more? - I've only played for 4 hours so far). I do plan to keep playing but can see these frustrations are likely to limit the amount of enjoyment/play time I get out of it
