Solid game. The June update made a huge difference in performance for me. I have a 3060TI and before, it was rough going. I had a hard time with the lag on the lowest settings offered and had to stop after Act 1. With the update I was able to set the graphic settings to the medium level and it played wonderfully for me. Plus I was able to actually turn off motion blur! The game had good story telling and really kept me wondering how it pieced together until the last act. It all came together nicely, but still leaves some mystery. I really enjoyed the puzzles and how it progressed. I felt it had a good balance of challenging puzzles with some straight forward progression. Overall I really enjoyed this one and am looking forward to the DLCs! Only negative thing is that the achievement didn't pop after completing.
UGH, it was going good and then i got stuck on the elevator and the only fix they can come up with is a save file google doc... bruh lolol what is this!? and then they wanna make a part 2!? yeah no... edit: fixed. but sadly will leave a negative review. The combat is far from perfect, in fact the enemies get stuck 9 out of 10 times. The optimization is HORRENDOUS... Yeesh. The barebones options menu is very telling... especially when it comes to the indie horror scene, tho I have played OUTSTANDING 5 buck indie horror games that blow my mind and they have like minimal options... so... maybe dont start a LARGE project if you can't optimize it well? I don't trust a company that does not polish their game and fix issues like this, before starting their next project ESPECIALLY if its a sequel. if all your making is streamer bait/shill games, then sure... I guess you guys can do that. But it's a no from me. There should be a level of quality in a 20 dollar game (even a cheaper one at that) and as devs, if you don't believe in that, then I will not give you more of my money and I'll be sure to make sure others know not to either.
I waited for over a year to play this game, and so far, the wait couldn’t have been any more worth it! The demo itself was a freaking blast, and picking up the game when it finally dropped was a dream come true! Took about 3 hours getting through Act 3 (while streaming so not 100% focused purely on gameplay. The puzzles and “thinking” moments are challenging enough to not breeze through them, but not so ridiculous that you’ll spend all night cussing while frantically clicking on the keyboard. I play in Windowed Borderless mode since I’m on an ultra wide and performance wise, it was fantastic! $20 is a damn steal too! I’ll try and update my review once I’ve finished the game, but stop reading this and go play it yourself!
Sadly the games performance is TERRIBLE. I hope they fix it soon. I am running a gaming laptop with a RTX 3060, and it lags so badly it is unplayable.
The Cecil: The Journey Begins is a messy but memorable psychological horror experience. The puzzles are clever, the world is unsettling, and the story sticks with you—especially once it starts to unfold. Yes, it’s janky. Yes, it needs polish. But if you’re patient and open to indie horror that swings big—even when it stumbles—this one’s worth a visit. Just keep the lights on and your ears open. And don’t trust the mannequins.
After spending 8 minutes trying to get the game to go fullscreen (spoiler alert you have to set it to windowed to be fullscreen) I spent 4 minutes playing and could not figure out how to cycle through items in my inventory to place something on a shelf and accidently entered debug mode and started flying through the map.
I enjoyed the puzzles... but the over all game just feels sooooooo under baked. It runs really poorly and I had to reopen the game because messages would stay on screen and over lap. It could be so much better with a few months of polishing.
The Cecil is a fantastic game personally to me with a truly unique and engaging storyline. From the start, it’s clear that a lot of love and creativity went into the world-building and narrative design. I had been keeping an eye on this title for a while, waiting for updates before diving in and I’m so glad I did. The gameplay is smooth and intuitive, with responsive controls and a well-balanced difficulty curve that keeps things fun and challenging without becoming frustrating. What really stood out to me was the atmosphere and the depth of the characters. It’s not often you find an indie game that pulls you in with such strong storytelling. The visuals and music help create a world that feels alive and immersive, and every area I explored felt purposeful and thoughtfully designed. Huge thanks to the developers for crafting something special here.
I like this game. There's a video of that Russian guy playing it and it seems he's figured it out. I like this game a lot.
