The Case of the Golden Idol

the game is relatively short (i completed the base game + DLCs in just over 8 hours) but its so worth it. the puzzles are challenging but not frustratingly difficult, and although hint usage is discouraged its still available if you get really stuck. its possible to solve every case using logic and no guesswork (i had to do some guessing anyway but thats a skill issue on my end. after going back i found the evidence i missed and its very much possible to figure it out on your own). i will remember this game forever, highly recommend for fans of detective games where you get to actually play detective

The puzzle part of this game is genuinely good. Figuring out who did what, cross-referencing clues, filling in blanks. I liked that a lot. But the story is lacking. There's a secret society. There's a golden idol. People dying over decades. And then... nothing. You never learn anything meaningful about any of it. The society exists so there's something to write in the blanks. The idol exists so there's a mystery. None of it has any weight. I kept waiting for the moment where things would click and I'd go "oh, THAT'S what's going on." Never came. You finish the game knowing about as much about the idol as when you started. And here's the thing that really gets me. The idol has dials. That's how its power works, you can see people adjusting them in the scenes. But you never touch them. Not once. The whole game is about this artifact and you never get to interact with it. You're looking at snapshots of stuff that already happened. Everything's over. You're just sorting through the aftermath. The idol gets broken at the end and it resolves nothing. Nobody learned anything, nobody changed. The game just stops.

Very very good investigation point-and-click mystery game. Interesting story so far.
