This is a barebones Diablo clone in VR where the key gimmick is chanting spells yourself. This means you have to be able to speak to play this game. That's good and bad. The good is it's great for immersion, chanting spells is super fun, especially in co-op. The bad is you can't play it when people are trying to sleep. That said, it's a load of fun. There are three acts and three difficulties to slow through, loads of spells and equipment, and a surprising layer of depth once you start playing around. Much worth it.
I can't really recommend this game. It was cool for a bit, but got so terribly repetitive with very little substance. Weapons are all the same per level, no variety. The same sword, hammer, etc, just with slightly incrementing stats per level. They go up through tiers. New tier, new look, but they're again, all the same. You've got an assortment of spells to choose from that you find new ones, but there's really not appearing to be a wide swath of them. No other skills. It's just empty. Sure, it's hack and slash, kinda like Diablo if it was gutted and barebones. Not much else I can say about it. I get I didn't see all the boards in the time I played. I get that there's probably many things I didn't see. But after seeing the clear trend of the game, extremely limited content served in spoonfuls, I'm out and can't recommend.
This is one of my favorite VR games.. It's Jank for sure. But the act of frantically shouting somatic commands to rain down fire and oblivion on your enemies - With Friends! It's just a lot of fun.
This game is a hidden gem for VR.
Two notes: First, I'm playing this in Flat mode. Second, the low play time is due to the game crashing if I'm connected to the internet, so Steam doesn't record the hours I've played. This is a problem in the engine, not the game itself. This game is a lot of fun. That's probably the most important bit. But how can a game where you shout, "Bite them, ice teeth!" and dozens of icicles shoot out, freezing your enemies, not be fun? Can you really say, "I am the ripper of burning sky, guiding the visitor from the end", watch your enemies get hit in the face with a freaking meteor and not enjoy yourself? Y'know, outside the surprisingly low damage this spell actually deals.... But, you might consider this a downside: That is ALL you do. Go place, kill thing. Fireball, frost flower, meteor. Rinse, and repeat. There are quests, but they're all "go place, kill thing" as well. And most of the time, you're completely OP too. Most enemies have melee attacks, and the few that have bows and arrows fire slow enough that you can easily dodge them. So you can basically whail on them all from a safe distance, and they usually die a couple steps before they reach you. The occasional boss fight can be actually hard, especially if they have an AoE attack, but even those are easily handled. The upside is the wide variety of spells at your tonguetip. Enchant your sword to deal more damage, or to freeze your enemies. Lay landmines, zap them with lightning, make walls of ice. Run out of mana? There's a spell for that, too, but you can't move or attack while it's active, so plan ahead for that. The game barely has a plot worth mentioning, so if you're looking for an immersive story, this isn't for you. But, as it stands, the plot is that the seal is broken, evil things are coming into the nameless lands because of it, and it's up to you to make things go dead until you can unbreak the seal again. Due to this, the entire game feels more like an unfinished proof of concept than a proper game So, to recap: Monsters are easy to kill, but yelling spells is a lot of fun. The game has exactly nothing else to offer, but that's okay. Overall, I give it 3 poorly aimed meteors out of 5.
