About

You were warned not to dig too deep; there was no need to go further. A rabbit's life is comfortable without the extra effort. But something—subtle, yet unrelenting—pulled at a hidden space in your mind. It seemed like a waste of time, but you felt compelled to keep going—until the tunnel, once your safest refuge, collapsed beneath you. Air rushes past as you fall, and when you look up, the Broken Ceiling fades into the darkness.
Driven by compulsion, the protagonist burrows far too deep and falls through the ceiling of a massive underground void, descending into a darkness that isn't truly darkness, where powerful and incomprehensible beings reside. Unwittingly, the player becomes the key to unlocking the prison that holds these beings, trapped after a failed coup to overthrow their cosmic ruler.

In this hand-drawn adventure, use your keyboard or game controller to:
Explore caverns teeming with cosmic entities, whose very presence threatens to shatter your mind and wither your body.
Use your lantern to carve and opening through the darkness and reveal secrets hidden deep within the unknown. But beware—the darkness is more than it seems, draining the power that sustains your fragile light. Recharging your lantern frequently is essential to survival—it is your lifeline, your health.

Decipher clues left behind by the entity that imprisoned the beings within these caverns.
Collect items that will help you solve the caverns' mysteries and, ultimately, open the prison gates, releasing the inmates back into the cosmos.
And always keep moving.

Length <1.30hrs The Broken Ceiling is a top-down exploration game with Lovecraftian narrative and visuals. There is no combat, instead the challenge comes from lantern management; the darkness can and will kill you, to prevent this you are given a lantern which will swiftly lose energy. The lantern is charged via crystals found on the map; while initially it can feel challenging, there is very little difficulty to the game. Puzzles are item collection focused, everything you need can be found on the map or by interacting with the creatures / statues. The visuals are honestly beautiful; the different creatures you can find within the caverns all have unique and interesting designs, each with a ancient cosmic feel. I often found myself craving the ability to zoom out just to see the form clearly. Overall, a relaxing game with great visuals. Fun, creepy little indie adventure with a great sense of dread and horror.
Figured I would see what all the hype was about this game amongst my kids. Turns out it’s pretty hard. If you die you start all over. Maybe an extra life option when you have made it beyond milestones for a future update? The light component is actually super neat. Instead of a timer of sorts; you have only so long and so much distance to see the map ( like drowning in the darkness ) The puzzles are easy enough to solve for any age; however you need to do a bunch of discovery of the map to understand what to do and remember things and read. Graphics are nicely illustrated and the wording of the story is simple and easy to follow. Initially I died before I understood what I was doing; background music is lite and not too repetitive like some games; but gives you the feeling of being in a different universe. The game lets you work on your memory of the map and locations of things. The map changes a bit between levels (if you want to call it that) and graphics get even more elaborate. I am not too far in yet but compelled to finish it if I don’t run out of light or get killed again.
An enjoyable short game. Gets your blood pumping a bit when that lantern gets really low! The music is very creepy and sets the mood perfectly. Most importantly, there is a definite sense of exploration and accomplishment when solving the puzzles.
Broken Ceiling is a charming game built on solid mechanics and an amazing art style! Each assets is unique with time and thought behind each design. The gameplay loop rewards exploration which is something that kept me engaged. All in all had a great time running through this short story!
A little rabbit falls deep into the earth and is trapped in a hellish cavern of otherworldly horrors. Light puzzling made unexpectedly challenging by the punishing nature of the central exploration mechanic. You're in dim light and you need to stay oriented at all costs. Rewards methodical, cautious, and iterative play. You will die. That's OK. The meta-game progress of learning the route is as much the game as any one play session is.
This game is a fantastic blend of cute with creepy. The art style is adorable but there's a deeply unsettling atmosphere lurking. It's a bit like wandering through a fever dream and I'm totally here for it. Well worth the price.
I normally don't do reviews on games but this game had amazing visuals and the art style is so unique and made this game very fun to play and had me hooked. As I played i noticed that i kept dying from the darkness and found myself learning and exploring new things and feeling more confident as I went through the story. It was a little harder for me to navigate through the map because it seemed very big at first but I quickly picked up on it and found myself paying closer attention to the amazing art and how much attention to detail there is. All together this game is 10/10 and the art style is amazing!
In my heart of hearts, I am an ambiance kiddo. Sound design is an extremely important part of any form of media, but especially in video games, and -especially- in horror. And while this gem doesn’t have any jump scares, it perfectly encapsulates the unnerving, creeping fear and discomfort that is cosmic horror. Pair that with some stellar art, and you have an extremely enjoyable experience. It’s short, but so sweet for any horror enthusiasts out there, and a fantastic diversion for those with a weaker stomach as well. As an added bonus, they don't completely hold your hand during game play, and there are multiple endings, so there’s replayability there too. A perfect game to snuggle into with a cup of tea on a dark winter night. And let's be honesty; ultimately, I, too, am just a leetle creechur wandering scared through the dark unknown trying to find my way back into the light.
