The Beginner's Guide is a narrative video game from Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley Parable. It lasts about an hour and a half and has no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.57/day in the week to Aug 10 → 15/day in the week after.
Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A great narrative driven walking sim! One that is best experienced as blind as possible! It's great though, trust me!!

Beautiful design and visuals, fun but also intriguing story that becomes a bit deeper in the end. Quick game but worth it.

This is an interesting walking sim that makes us think about our lives. It's during the walking that we're listening to a narrator, and we're also thinking to ourselves, "What's the point of this game or how does this apply to my life?" I sort of dislike the narrator, Davey, by the end of the game. Davey's an unreliable narrator that won't let Coda be a free person, and that's sad, and we get to experience that in this explorative experimental game. For some reason this game inspires me to make games—at least try making simple stuff at first.\ It's a short game. Go ahead and give it a try.
This game is beautiful. It has a coherent plot even though the environment sometimes doesn't make sense. I love how the game reveals things to you and leaves a mystery with you. 10/10 wish I could replay for the first time.
.
the narrator's voice...cant listen to it for hours game is way too slow waste of time

First off, I have never played The Stanley Parable, and I don't think I ever will. Secondly, the game crashes on my PC as soon as I launch it, apparently due to how many cores my CPU has or something. So I played it entirely on Steam Deck with mouse and keyboard. Something about The Beginner's Guide speaks to me. I don't know if it's because I'm an amateur dev myself, or because I just generally connect to it's themes and ideas. The disparity in the narrative to pit intrinsic and extrinsic motivation against each other is the analysis that I keep returning to this game for. I've watched multiple playthroughs on Youtube from multiple people, though, actually playing the game, I couldn't help but feel disconnected for some reason. But maybe that's a problem with me, and how I've somehow made this entire review about myself. Anyways, I find this game to be interesting to think about.
I went into this hoping to understand the creative process or an introspection on the nature of creating, and while it seemed like it was going to be that at first, it turned out to be the, quite frankly, ramblings of someone who massively overstepped and couldn't figure that out. If it's an analogy for something, and I'm too dense to see that, then egg on my face, but If it's a real story then, geez dude... So why recommend it? -it's cheap and quick, and you, as others have, might glean something of philosophical or otherwise value from it. -It's not lazily made or anything, just narratively jarring. I can't not recommend a game where a subjective creative decision I "didn't get" is the main reason. Much like another reviewer said, I'd give it a lukewarm "ehh" if I could, but overall, while I thought it was an uncomfortable experience, it was an experience I remember, so sure right?
