I really wanted to do a little review ^^ So, the story is certainly very well thought out, it's a shame that it's contained in just 2 scenarios. Nice and spot on soundtrack. I encountered a bug in the penultimate chapter during the descent into the cellar, the character got his head stuck in the beam:P Developer Tip: Translate the game into multiple languages as it is purely narrative based. Overall rating 6/10 I can't give more because the price is a bit high and the longevity is just 2 hours, not replayable.
The horrors of aging and forgetting who you are
This game is very special to me. I have experienced what it is like to handle someone with dementia and this game tells the horrors of forgetting who you are so well. I loved that the story includes everyone that is dealing with the challenge of dementia (family and yourself). The eerie feeling of getting lost and dying, really having to slow down to get things "fixed" is well translated in the level design. The voice acting is really good and atmospheric. If you are a fan of "What Remains of Edith Finch" and exploring family stories that deal with the topic of death, this game is for you.
Loved the game, very nice story about Alzheimer and death. Recomend everyone to try it out.
I've had someone pass away with Alzheimer's recently, and came across this game by pure chance in my discovery queue. It's played a big part in my grieving process, helped me work through things and understand where my loved one was at the time of their passing. It's a bittersweet but beautiful game, had me crying buckets, but at the same time, I couldn't turn it off. It does an amazing job of telling Tommy's story, but is also done in such a way that it can be applied to anyone's story. I saw my grandmother's and my own family's journey in Tommy's. It hit home, but it helped. I've recommended everyone in my family play it, in the hopes it'll help them too. I think, whether you have experience with Alzheimer's or not, you should play this game. This disease affects millions of people, and I've never seen a better way to explain what's going on inside someone's head as they suffer as I have with this game. 1000/10 recommend.
Emotional daaamage. More thrilling stuff would be perfect. Dark mazes aren't my favorite part tbh...
A Beautiful game with a powerful message executed with some very nice voice acting and impactful environments. Highly recommended!
Good, if you liked Edith Finch you'll probably like this.
Tears away
As someone who dealt with a dear one that had Alzheimer's, this was such a good experience, in the sense that touch in many aspects that still remaing of situations that we dealt with. The story is good, and it has a nice pacing The soundtrack and the art real helped set the mood and the narration helped the flow
There's plenty of indie games on the market, but very few of them have as much emotion and passion as Back Then. It's a very focused game, it's a slow burn, it's confusing, and it's sad. So very sad. That only capitalizes on how poignant this game is in today's age, tackling a subject rarely spoken of and shining some very needed light on it. Kudos to the team. Do yourself a favor and experience this game, it's worth it.
This is a very moving game concerning the ravages of time, old age, and Alzheimer's Disease. There were a lot of tense moments and many emotional ones as well. The chapters "The Abyss" and "The War" were especially intense. My only major gripe with the game is you can't save mid-chapter. You have to finish a chapter before exiting the game; otherwise, you have to replay the chapter from the beginning.
