The Beginner's Guide is a narrative video game from Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley Parable. It lasts about an hour and a half and has no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.57/day in the week to Aug 10 → 15/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

there is a puzzle with 2 doors that you eventually have to try and solve, the narrator talks about it but, for the life of me I could not figure out how to open the second door! This game is literally broken and nobody cares about it. This game is literally bugged, DOWNVOTE
Very short and very mechanically barebones game, and yet deeply sincere. It took me about 2 hours to play the entire thing, and I can't say that I have a full picture of what the game means. I doubt anyone truly does. It's a Source engine game, so it's very familiar and blocky, and the mechanics - while nearly absent - still don't detract from the meaning. I can tell this comes from a very emotional place, and it's been stuck in my head for the last couple of days. All I can say is that it means something to me, and I hope you play it.

Damn. It's worth sitting down for 2 hours and playing all in one sitting. Don't look too much into it before playing

私の人生暫定ナンバーワンゲーム 有志の日本語化MODに感謝だ
As much as I liked Stanley Parable, this game feels more like an interactive love letter, rather than a ground-breaking concept piece. Unless the concept is sadness and depression, then I suppose it's on brand, right enough. You don't actually have to use your brain to play it, you just walk through a guided tour of inconsequential interactions that gradually untangle an unmotivated game developer's psyche. At times there are genuinely interesting experiences, particularly playing the broken, unfinished games early on. Those things give Beginner's Guide a similar meta framework as SP, but it's mostly cosmetic. it doesn't really feel any different than most walking simulators, albeit far more story-driven. I'm just not sure who is supposed to relate to this love letter because it isn't a particularly common predicament. Even if you know a self-destructive artist that probably can, the story lands on a completely different foot. But whatever, if you're just want a sad story that lasts about 3 hours, get it if it's on sale. That's really all it is.
