The Beginner's Guide is a narrative video game from Davey Wreden, the creator of The Stanley Parable. It lasts about an hour and a half and has no traditional mechanics, no goals or objectives. Instead, it tells the story of a person struggling to deal with something they do not understand.

Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Every market we collect.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.57/day in the week to Aug 10 → 15/day in the week after.
Too few observations to say whether a discount moves this store's chart at all: across the last 30 days Steam · Top Sellers · Poland has just 18 day-to-day chart moves that followed a price cut, against 2,498 that did not. We are publishing the count instead of a direction — 20 is the fewest we will draw a conclusion from, and price collection outside the United States began on 6 August 2026.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS DONT READ FIRST GO PLAY THE GAME NOW!!!!! I can't get that first prison out of my head. I visited Kilmainham Gaol sometime ago and while playing it's all I could think about that first area with the open roof, the little space outside, the smaller rooms at the end with their wooden floors. I wonder if that was an influence I'll never really know.
I did enjoy this game. I thought it was a cool experience to have. I do agree with a few of the reviews I have seen in that this is more of an experience rather than a game, but honestly, those are some of my favourites. If you are looking for something that isn't an experience, this may not be for you. I found it thought provoking, and I had to sit with it for a bit. I saw some people say it didn't really resonate with them, which is fair, but I think it did for me. I'd recommend to those who enjoy gameplay as a storytelling medium, and I would recommend going in blind if you end up playing, as that definitely made the experience better for me

Played this back in 2016 and just watched someone else play it today, a decade later. It was incredibly memorable and I was worried a fresh perspective might taint my nostalgia. Indeed, the second time around I thought the narrator self-important and assuming. Interestingly, that's to the game's credit. Fantastic short story.
This is genuinely one of the greatest games I've ever played. I never thought a game that felt so simple and abstract (at first) would have such an affect on me and how I viewed pretty much everything. This game is a must play and I would recommend it to literally anyone.
Always when I play or read or watch something that feels genuinely profound and really gets to me, I can atleast vaguely explain why. "I loved Blood Meridian because of the sense of hopelessness and inevitability that consumes it" etc, but with this, I really have no words. It seemed to be going toward one, albeit emotional, predictable outcome and it didn't. It subverted my expectations and went in a direction that I would never have thought of and really made me feel something. it made me unsure who to feel for and it made me conflicted about that. A few years ago i played and loved the Stanley parable. It wasn't my favourite game and neither is this but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this is definitely up there. 10/10
