Well, here is my belated review, wrtitten 11 years after the game came out and multiple runs with different characters. The replayability factor of this game is off the charts. This is one of the very few games on Steam were the choices you make really DO matter - storylines and endings are radically impacted by your actions. The lore of this game is right up my alley - based on an Imperial Roman theme with a dash of sci-fi gone wrong. You live in a world struggling through the aftermath of that wrongness, and it gives IMO a great backdrop to your adventures and the chocices you make - or are forced to make - to insure your survival. A particularly nice touch is that different runs will unveil different parts of the lore, and after playing through five or six different characters, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what happened in the past to bring the world to this story state. But that is the background. In most cases you are playing a schmuck trying to make ends meet and forge his/her path to a semblance of prosperity. Some of the choices you make pursuing that goal do not exactly pan out as you expect - but that is the strength of AoD. All in all a remarkable game, made all the more precious by the paucity of alternatives in its (admitedly niche) category. I recommend this game heartily.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Amazing game, love it!
The Age of Decadence is a deep, uncompromising RPG that I can respect more than I actually enjoy. It leans heavily into old school design, with a strong focus on player choice, branching paths, and meaningful consequences. The writing and world building are impressive, offering a grounded, morally grey setting where your decisions genuinely shape how things play out. There’s a real sense that your character build matters, and the game rewards thoughtful planning over brute force. That said, it’s not exactly welcoming. The difficulty can be punishing, the systems are dense, and progression often feels restrictive unless you’ve built your character very specifically. It’s the kind of game that demands patience and a willingness to experiment (and fail), which I can appreciate, but it’s also what kept me from fully enjoying it. I respect what it’s doing, and for fans of hardcore, choice-driven RPGs, this is probably a gem. For me, though, it’s more something I admire than something I want to keep playing.
Cool story game, interesting game systems.
Truly unparalled in both gameplay and setting. You *will* die. A LOT. But every time you do, you learn the tricks to succeeding in the game or have the opportunity to discover one of the many hidden treasures that can take the whole game in a completely different direction than you had thought you were going in. I would love to see future iterations of this setting. I find it deeply interesting and moving in many different ways. It's not Planescape, but damn is it close!
