I have played Test Drive Unlimited 2 way back on the PS3 when it released. That game was peak I had over 100+ hours on it. The map quality was amazing and the content was good. I love the TDU series of games. This game Solar Crown is probably one of the worst games I have played. I played the BETA and own the full game on both XBOX Series S and PC. There is no reason for the game to run the way that it does. I get very low FPS which is different than what I get in other games. So, I know it is not my PC. FPS drops constantly and many bugs. The map is horrible. The cars are so bad. For a game that came out in modern times they have no new cars. Sad, but true. The content is just not fun, I played hours on the casino back on TDU 2 and it was amazing but the casino on this game is so bad. This game is trash and not worth the over $100 I paid on XBOX and the over $100 I paid on steam. It is not worth the money. No one should buy this game. It is a flop and they are never going to fix it.
Forced 3rd party accounts are annoying enough, but this one is literally broken. I verified my email and had to use the "forgot password" link just to set up my account. The link takes you to their site, you type in a new password, click the "Change Password" button... and absolutely nothing happens. I checked the dev tools. The button is a literal dummy UI element with no event listener attached and zero network requests going out. It looks like they built the frontend but completely forgot to wire it up to the backend. Does nobody QA test the login flow before pushing it? It is physically impossible to log in. Wasted exactly 36 minutes of my "playtime" clicking a dead button instead of playing the game. Refunded.

Negatives. 1. The game requires NASA computer to run and the performance will still be atrocious. 2. Every nice car is hidden by the paywall. Wanna have fun? Pay your real money! 3. Glacial tempo of development. 4. It's 6th season and still no houses in sight. 5. Steering rack rotation is too progressive. 6. Cryptic illogical menus. You don't get what leads to where. Too much guesswork while setting button bindings. Positives: 1. Good classical music radio, good rock radio. 2. Ibiza is beautiful. 3. Good driving physics. Physics in this game make sense. All in all, a very flawed execution of what seemingly could be a nail in Forza Horizon coffin. Forza has its fair share (a laundry list, really) of problems, but nowhere near as bad as TDU SC. Pity. I wanted to love this game. It wouldn't let me to.
I bought this on the sale for £11. Its absolute disappointing garbage. Not worth £11. I've never left a negative review, never requested a refund but I have with this game it is really really so bad its an embarrassment to the devs. I'd recommend they stop wasting life, give up releasing updates and bury this thing into the worse game archives of all time.
I really wanna love this title, however this game is still so poorly optimized that the only way it'll look good is if you max out the settings which then will turn your room into a sauna. You can lower the settings but then the game will look washed out and it gets a lot of ghosting and latency due to frame gen plus your PC still gets fairly hot (69c). It's a shame cuz the game does a lot of little things right like you gotta earn the cars in your garage, the world is a wonder to cruise around in and explore, the sense of speed is better than any other racer I've played, races are fairly challenging, the rewards aren't outrageous low or high and there's no wheelspin. I love the little interaction you can do like using the indicators, roll the windows and top down, actually enter the dealership, pop the hood, open the doors and the best part, test drive the car before buying! (All car games needs this) And then you pick the color, interior and rims, again it's all simple things that does a ton to make each and every purchase feel special. One last thing, I really love how you tap the accelerator just once to turn on the car, hear it roar or beeb (EV) in all its glory and if you tap it again it will move along slowly like an actual car would. For most ppl this might sound stupid but for a car dweep like myself this is friggin legendary! One Minus for me is that you can't use the carputer in the interior view as navigation like you could in TDU2 and then there's the obvious lag of lifestyle sim like no crips to buy and the casino straight up sucks with only slot machines to play with. But I'll be real here, I can forgive those shortcomings. Sure they all suck but they aren't gamebreaking flaws.. the optimization however is. And that is unfortunately why I can't recommend this title. It's heartbreaking really.
TLDR: Nothing special but not awful like 38% positive would lead you to believe First of all, I haven't played older Test Drive games and I am coming fresh off of ~200 hours of Forza Horizon 6. Optimization is terrible but i'm able to get ~70 frames consistently after playing with my settings at 4k and i'm happy enough with how it looks. Visually while I'm driving it reminds me of crackdown 3 which is not as bad as I was expecting from some of the other reviews, not to say its good though. Lots of cutscenes so far with all of the characters looking like wax figures, sounding out of place, and with stilted and off-putting animation to match. Driving physics are as expected from other KT games very responsive and fun on controller, arcade style handling but not the kind where you will be drifting every corner. The way the camera swings with the car helps it to feel even more responsive than it already would. Impressed with the size of the map and the fact that there are licensed cars. Being able to open the windows and play with other controls like that through the radial menu is a nice touch especially for photos. I like how much customization there is but the amount/price of micro-transactions and elements that are just there to keep you grinding every day do feel like overkill in a game i'm primarily looking at as a single player campaign experience. I'm sure i'd be especially uncomfortable with them if I paid closer to full price, but I also understand that this is being ran more like an MMO and I respect that they need to make money to keep supporting the game, it's servers, and especially keep paying for those licenses from car manufacturers. So far happy with this for $10. Might not be as happy when I want more cars.
Yea there isn't much to say other than that this game is bad. -The game doesn't look that great, and the optimization is terrible. -Uninteresting and confusing UI. -Some car models are reused from older TDU games, which are just incorrect and look horrible. -No properties to buy. -Open world that feels so dead. -A soundtrack that ends up becoming background. -Battle Pass and digital currency? WTF! I can't say this is all KT Racing's fault since Nacon is a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ publisher, but what I can say is to avoid this game. Its just not worth it at all.
