Tanuki Justice

Tanuki Justice is a hair-raising fast-paced, run & gun plat-former that follows in the style of difficult plat-former's on the NES such as Contra, Ninja Gaiden, and Mega-Man but in the vain of 90's gaming mascots such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Rocket Knight. Play alone or together as 2 tanuki ninjas who are on a quest to save feudal japan from the evil Emperor. However, the journey to stopping him ain't gonna be easy. Much like the games that inspired it, this game is a lot of fun with its fast-paced & challenging game-play that will keep you on your paws, colorful 8-bit graphics, and a catchy NES inspired soundtrack. The game is also pretty short and it won't take long to beat it, if your a pro. As mentioned earlier, this game is viciously hard and it requires precise timing, skill, and strategy to make it through. However similar to an arcade game, the game does have unlimited continues that lets you retry as much as you want until you give up. But you start at the beginning of the level your at, thus making the game unforgiving. But it feels very rewarding upon completing each level and satisfied at the end (if your lucky). If you looking for a hard punishing game or one featuring cute & cuddly raccoon dogs as playable protagonists. Then this game is a must play for you. Just be sure not to break your keyboard nor your controller as this game is pretty mean.

Such a simple and fun run'n'gun! Can be quite tricky sometimes but it is very very enjoyable as an arcade game to come back to several times. Really liked it for how simple and effective it is.

You can tell exactly what kind of game this is just by watching the trailer. Nothing changes mechanically at any point throughout the game. The game is short (6 stages plus a final boss "stage") and is geared towards replaying the stages to get a higher score or to conquer a higher difficulty setting. In terms of difficulty, I completed the game on Normal (the easiest setting). There are two higher levels of difficulty available from there, and I have no desire to touch them because Normal was challenging enough for me. The game is meant to be very challenging and is clearly designed with players who want to be pushed to their absolute limits in mind. If you watch the trailer and think "that looks fun, and I hope it's hard!" then this is the game for you. If you don't want both of those things, this is not the game for you. Other minor thoughts: Virtually no loading times A couple of catchy stage songs Variety of environments throughout I played with a DualSense, and the controls are good other than the "lock in place" button also locks you into moving if you push it while moving, which is not useful at all and can lead to unintentional deaths. Movement is responsive as you would expect it to be. Good game but I'm glad I only paid $3 because I got 98 minutes out of it and while I generally enjoyed my time with it (aside from some frustrations about my own badness), I don't think I'll touch it again. People who like to replay games (and who are good enough to touch the higher difficulty modes) will probably get more mileage out of this than I did.

very fun arcade style game. Cool characters, varied and colorful backgrounds. A good level design and intuitive controls. The music is nice!

I had a good time platforming in this one. I like the art and music. I found that just throwing myself at the level to get a feel of the enemies and platforms was much more fun and productive than trying to pass a level on the first try. You try and get beat down and try and try and try and somehow you get through and beat the level boss and start the whole thing over again on another unique level. Infinite continues so long as you don't mind starting over at the beginning of a stage when you run out of lives. It's full of run and gun elements. I'll have more to say once I try it with my friend. Update 2 May 2021 I enjoyed playing this one with my friend but I hope they add a feature over from one player. I had infinite continues while playing alone but in local cooperative I lost this feature. It was a bitter change as our experience in games like this is low. We would have played for much longer had we been given infinite continues. I play for the local cooperative experience in most games so this is always important. I bought the game I have infinite quarters and I want my free lives.

So far it is full of super frantic fun on hard difficulty. Charming graphics, sounds and art style; I wish it had some CRT filters and scanlines, etc.
