Everything looks beautiful with its lighting and mapping, although there can still be some improvement like adding wall edges to its map. Sometimes, it might not be obvious that you can only move to the next area by going to the tile with the pathway. Other than that, everything looks great. The UI is gorgeous and the way the character portrait was shown shows some significance to each character. I also like how expressive the characters are - their facial expressions in both the sprite and its portrait will change whenever something happens.
Story
The story is straightforward. You are an heir to the throne and you need to reclaim it back. The game tries to focus on this premise while adding events in between. I like how smoothly they add new characters to the story, though. Each character looks unique with their purposes and strengths, although I would prefer more if we got deeper with them. That being said, I also like how the ending is more focused on these characters rather than the country in general.
The Game
Gameplay As a game that is more focused on the story, you'll have to deal with a lot of dialogue. That doesn't mean that there won't be much action, though. I found that there is enough content for you not to get bored with its dialogues, which are usually made short and easy to read. The game is quite linear in most of its objectives except in one of its chapters where you can finish your objectives in any order that you want. To be honest, I found that dungeon exploration to be short due to the game's length and how it's designed to prevent any grinding, although I still enjoyed it nonetheless. As a game that doesn't promote grinding, you'll be strapped for resources at first. You can only get money and EXP from enemies, and since they are limited, you can't buy much for your journey. This can cause issues in the early game, especially since you might not get enough money to buy gear if you decide to buy too many health-restoring items, or even spend the money somewhere else like the inn, which is useless since you can get free heals somewhere else. However, people who just played the game for the first time might not know about this fact and decide to use the service because they don't know where the next free healing spot is and their party members are in dire need of healing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2975702585 The resource limitation also makes it hard to make a decision. Some bosses will require you to deal with RNG unless you want to spend some items, but with so little money to spare, it can be hard to decide whether using the items right now is worth it or not. As a result, you might even have to save scum just to get by on some bosses, which can give another issue since you can't skip on the dialogues and animations that are leading up to that fight. There was one boss that I had to restart around 5 times to beat, and I didn't have fun with it in the slightest, especially because you just need to do the same thing over and over in each fight. On the positive side, I like how easy it is to get to the game. There is a quest log that you can follow, and the instruction isn't confusing with all of the icons of the places that you need to go. Places are also not too spread out, allowing you to explore everything with ease. Moreover, you won't get bored of exploring everything, especially since there are a lot of variations in the place that you visit, and sometimes there might even be an easy minigame or puzzle to spice it up. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3029526907 Combat I like how the game promotes touch-based encounters, especially since it doesn't have any grind. You need to figure out how to beat the enemies every time, which might or might not give some tinkering to your strategy. However, the game becomes more repetitive as you play, with enemies requiring the same strategy to beat. They might have different attack patterns or weaknesses, but I usually only have to change one character's elemental spell at most to beat them. The only difficulty I had when beating enemies was when I was strapped for items, but I found it to be a cheap way to add difficulty because I had to rely on RNG for it. I like how the game has different gameplay at the last area depending on the character that you bring. However, most of the combinations might be difficult to pull off without using any items, especially when I had to deal with the optional combat. I know that they are skippable, but it's still a good way to farm some EXP before going to the final boss. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3029526884 Length and Difficulty The in-game clock tells me that I saved the game at 08:19:04 before I faced the final boss. My Steam playtime was shorter because I had some connection issues when I played the game which ruined my playtime. The game isn't difficult at all as long as you know what you're doing - you just need to deal with RNG at most. Issues I wish there was a way to skip or fast-forward some cutscenes, especially the one in the last area. Also, the walking speed of some characters in some areas is too slow.
Conclusion
I like the simplicity that Tales of Vogar - Lost Descendants provides. The game is straightforward and any sort of grinding is eliminated. This means that you can just focus on the story, and it does a good job of transitioning between both. There might be some improvements that can be made to the game, but I still could recommend it at this point, albeit on a sale. I was ready to not recommend this game until I realized what it was doing. This is a short little JRPG in the vein of Suikoden. You have to complete a series of sidequests to recruit soldiers and gain equipment and abilities. I just happened to go for the hardest one first, and that set me back a bit. But once I went back and explored for other options, I figured out the flow of the game and did much better. This game is a few hours of fun for people who enjoy straightforward JRPGs with very few twists.
I can tell that a lot of love has been put into this one. A big pet peeve of mine is when maps are made lazily. Here, on the other hand, the environments were excellent - they really are. Regardless, I found that the game isn't really for me. I'd still recommend that others try it.
One of the best RPGs Game available in the market. I really liked the story and the dialogue it's really well written and i enjoyed every bit of it. It has different kinds of magic and nothing seems out of place and has become one of my favorite RPGs out there. Recommended for sure!!!
I know this game was made by a fan who is very fond of the RPG genre, but I cannot recommend this game for several reasons. The first thing that caught my eye is the attempt to simulate the progression of the characters, although the game says that your level has increased, but you will not feel it in the real game, because the progression of the characters works together with the story of the game, and not with the experience points. The next point is that the game does not offer any new ideas in this genre, everything is simply based on what has already been seen, heard and played. The exploration aspect was missing. You can also see that there is a rush to finish the game at the end. What I liked about this game: - Diverse Gameplay - Soundtrack - Game Support
Tales of Vogar - Lost Descendants is the kind of game you should give a chance if you are interested in turn-based RPGs. It is visibly clear that the creator loves games of this genre. The interface and visually pleasing elements create a great combination, and everything unfolds smoothly. Beautiful elements, a good and simple interface, and a captivating story with well-explored characters form the perfect combination for a game of this genre. You have options like general stats, parameters, and character biographies, which are expected for a game of this type. Nonetheless, I am grateful to have these elements in the game. The story is well-crafted, from the events of the storyline to the dialogues between characters. Everything is enchanting in its own way. The aspect that stands out to me the most is the interactions between the characters; they are not shallow or disposable. The appearance of the characters is also something that I enjoyed. The accessories and weapons are characteristic and visually indicate the personality of each character, which is something I love in an RPG. The soundtrack is not to be left out when it comes to my praise. It is a beautiful choice that sets the right tone at the right time, which positively impacts the gameplay. I also conducted some tests by lowering the music volume and leaving only the ambient sounds, which also impressed me with their attention to detail. The battles and challenges do not deviate from what is expected of a turn-based RPG. You must pay attention to your equipment and abilities, as well as formulate a strategy to progress. I enjoyed the battles and the enemies; I have no complaints. Overall, it is a phenomenal classic RPG to remember the old times. It delivers everything it promises, and I definitely recommend it.
Awesome game with a great story line! I would recommend, worth giving it a try.
Finished the game today. It's kind of short and not much character build up or grind. I just wanted to finish it for the story. For the price you pay, it's worth it.
Great game. Story was fantastic, loved the mini games as well. It was the first time for me playing such a genre. Great guidance from the start. Female protagonist - really cool. I'm a woman myself and feel like there are too few!
It has a beautiful story. While playing, you can do different combos with the characters. It's a lot of fun to play. i recommend it to everyone
