About
SHIATH (Something horrible is about to happen) is a short (less than an hour long) horror game about the end of humankind and self-made doom.
Clay pigeon shooting. To survive, you'll need to take as much as you can from the sea below. Remember that not everything that surfaces is what it seems to be.
The brink. A surreal vision of a dying world. Enjoy your stay on the last patch of land that exist. It won't be long before it's gone.
The dog. Your only companion in this journey. Hopefully, you'll take good care of him.
A cast of miserable and spiteful characters. Meet others like you, and others who’ve been made the way they are because of people like you.
No happy ending. This story does not have a happy ending. Try all you want. Something horrible is about to happen.

This game sure makes you feel like something horrible is about to happen
Let's keep this short since it's a ~35 minute experience and I dont want to spoil the surprise
At its core, SHIATH is a narrative experience; a psychological horror tale set against the backdrop of humanitys last days. Players assume the role of one of the final survivors (?), existing on what may be the very last patch of habitable land. This is definitely not a story about triumph, but tension, uncertainty, and the slow, inevitable decay of everything with a touch of mystery in-between. It gets the message across but its nothing groundbreaking. The story is delivered through exploration and environmental storytelling rather than traditional exposition. There are a few text messages, and even fewer places to explore. The dog, your sole companion, becomes not just a gameplay entity but an emotional anchor for your character. What sets SHIATH apart from many indie horror titles is its commitment to no happy ending. Unlike narratives that promise salvation or resolution, SHIATH embraces the abyss. The developers make clear from the outset, and through every atmospheric beat of the game, that survival may be futile and the outcome dark~ish. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3638478271 SHIATH is short. Shorter than many indie games of its kind. The base experience can be completed in under an hour, but this condensed design is not a flaw if understood on its own terms. Gameplay centers on exploration and survival. There are no sprawling skill trees or complex combat systems. Instead, SHIATH relies on simple mechanics that complement its storytelling. You sit on your wooden chair, shoot items on the water (collision is kinda off, but its fine) and get water and food yourself and your pet. Sooner or later, the story advances automatically and tells you what you need to do through icons on the top left.
Conclusion
SHIATH is a bold indie experiment: a horror adventure that embraces ambiguity, emotion, and a stark, haunting world. It is not a game for everyone, but for players who appreciate a neat little indie horror experience, psychological tension, and a surreal low-poly atmosphere that stands out, especially at its low price point. Whether you’re a fan of narrative horror or simply curious about atmospheric indie games that push creative boundaries, SHIATH deserves attention. Final Score: 7.5/10 - Neat, but nothing groundbreaking
Follow our Curator page, IndieGems, to see more high-quality Indie reviews regularly.
This game looked cool, and I really wanted to like it. I didn’t—I hated it. Its mechanics are vague, awkward, and tedious, and the game feels bizarrely judgmental. The developer is obviously a misanthrope and seems determined to make the player feel that contempt during every second of gameplay. Disliking humanity is fine—I get it, I loathe them as well—but actively punishing your players (your customers) doesn’t feel like the best way to express that worldview. The game is mostly text-based, yet it forces you to wait while every single letter is typed out. There is also no save system whatsoever. You’re actively discouraged from experimenting or having fun, because a single mistake can cause the game to abruptly exit and force a full restart from the beginning. This isn’t a bug—it’s an intentional mechanic. There are hunger and thirst systems for both you and your dog, but they only seem to matter sometimes, with no clear indication of when or why. There is an interesting clay-pigeon-shooting mechanic that replaces fishing, though why the game doesn’t lean harder into the “pigeon” aspect of that idea is beyond me. The game also includes a horribly implemented platforming chase sequence—because apparently every genre released in the last five years feels obligated to include one. It nearly caused multiple rage quits, which absolutely should not happen in a game like this. Thematically, the game leans heavily into anti-capitalist and anti-materialist messaging, but these ideas never come together into something greater than their individual parts. (Also: if that’s the stance, why not make the game free?) As it stands, the experience feels less like a complete work and more like a brief, fan-made epilogue to some larger, nonexistent piece of fiction. Honestly, it almost feels like the result of an indie dev challenge to create a game using a severely limited set of digital assets. The whole thing is just… odd. As a rule, I don’t refund games that cost less than $5 or take under two hours to finish, but this experience made me reconsider that rule. I can’t, in good faith, recommend this game.
Something Horrible is about to happen
When you start the game it takes rougly 35min to play through, so something horrible is about to happen in the next 30 minutes after starting the game and playing. There is no happy end, there is no way of escape or getting away. Something horrible is about to happen. Shiath is ok as a game and properly better left for those who like to discover lore and have meaningfull conversation about art. I disliked the little platforming section, the movement is not made for this. The rest of the gameplay is fine its serves its perpose. I wished that some of the mechanics allow for better judgment a lot of the shooting is just trial and error or atleast I didnt noticed the difference between objects and enemies. The plot is delieved in huge amount of text, expect reading and waiting alot. I dont wanna dive to much into the plot and the twist as this would kinda ruin your experience. So let me just say this. The story is chaotic and depressing. The game delivers on its own promiss of havign no good ending and the lead up ist done nice. The end felt rushed a bit to fast and I left with feeling that I didnt understand all which is fine. The game may be better understand by others, just not by me. I am fine with that. Its pretty cheap and quickt title that finds its friends in thoose who enjoy similar games. Fans of horror and dreadfull words that dont mind paying for a short experience. I came, I had my good time on the beautifull shores and I left with a reminder for myself to be better. What more could I ask for?
A very creepy game with a constantly oppressive atmosphere and a feeling of both total isolation and someone else's presence. There is probably an interesting story too, but I couldn't understand it due to my poor English. Because of this, I highly request adding a Russian translation, even if it's just a clunky AI translation. Other than that, I really loved the game: a ton of small details, creepy elements, a heavy atmosphere, terrifying sounds, jumpscares, and overall excellent sound design.
Enjoyable game about you being on an island shooting fish, ammo, and bottled water as it bounces up from the ocean while you survive on a very tiny island. Not sure why the pig people don't like us tho and keep saying that something horrible is about to happen but my 1 advice to my fellow gamers out there is do not shoot the doge as something horrible will happen in an instant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKEJUyhWx-Q
''repent'' 🥀🥀 they was tuff for that 💔 really liked the slight anagogical use of the objects
A simple horror game with a strong unsettling tone, cryptic writing and a couple moments which made me jump. The presentation could have used some more polish and cohesion, for example the icons for hunger, sleep, etc. look like placeholders drawn in MS paint. Though other times it looks striking, such as when you are presented with the close-up images of the pig heads. Overall the game was gripping and I would recommend it.
Short but great horror experience, the writing is on point and the graphics are cool
