About
Seikyu is a quiet island sanctuary, hidden far from the noise of the human world. Here, yokai spirits live in harmony with nature and the turning seasons.
You and your sister begin your new lives in an old farmhouse - a place filled with memories, and room to begin anew. There's always something to tend, someone to chat with, or a quiet corner you haven't discovered yet.
Seikyu isn't a place you rush through. It's a place you can return to.

Your days follow a rhythm you create. Tend the farm, wander into town, or follow a path you haven't explored before. Some days you'll harvest. Some days you'll decorate. Some days you'll stumble across something you weren't expecting.
Expand your fields at your own pace, grow seasonal crops, and raise chickens, cows, sheep, and capybaras. Craft furniture and gradually create a space that feels like home.

The people of Seikyu have their own lives, routines, and quiet worries. Torleone, the thoughtful otter fisherman. Sasaki, the well-meaning carpenter who's always in the middle of a project. Nyotengu, the watchful guardian of the island skies.
Spend time with them and you'll start to notice the small changes - new dialogue, shared traditions, and story moments that unfold naturally over time. Their stories are interwoven, and yours will become part of that tapestry.

As a descendant of the Fox Clan, you carry the gift of shapeshifting. Transform to experience the island in new ways - charge through fields as a boar, soar on the wind as a tengu, or slip beneath the waves as a water spirit. Each form opens new corners of Seikyu: hidden ruins, distant hilltops, and sunken treasures.

Cherry blossoms give way to summer heat. Autumn leaves fall. Snow settles on the rooftops. Seikyu lives and breathes through every season, shaping the crops you grow, the festivals you attend, and the pace of life around you.

Reviews
I'm not very far yet, so I'll update my review later to comment more on gameplay and story stuff. Initially though I got to say the dialogue and art direction really stand out. The characters feel very alive and like they all have their own distinct personalities while the art is very cozy and visually interesting. Makes exploring very fun! I want to say too, as an aspiring artist myself, that one of the worst things to come from AI image generation, aside from the obvious theft of peoples work and replacement of real artists, is the witch hunt that has ensued. I ask that, if you are a lover of art even just as a consumer that unless you have some concrete reason to think other wise, that you assume any art posted online is authentic. Personally I'd much rather give someone posting AI art a free pass then discourage a real artist from making more art by falsly accusing them. Furthermore as a digital artist, from what I've observed I find that most people are completely unable to tell digital art from AI, people seem to think anything that looks like it was made on a computer (for example something with glossy smooth textures) is AI which simply isn't true. Lastly as someone who actually knows what to look for, I see zero indication that AI was used in any of this games art. Inconsistencies (I saw one person mention the tattoo on one characters portrait being on the opposite side as on their character sprite for example) is not enough to justify an AI accusation. Artists make mistake, we are people. What you should be looking for are warping or distortion in the image (hard to explain without going into a lot more detail) The only other comments I have so far, are I do think the clunky controls that some people have commented on are a valid criticism, in particular when it comes to navigating the UI (i am on controller). Using and Xbox controller typically what we are used to is selecting with A and navigating menus with the left stick. It's not totally uncommon to incorperate other buttons obviously but for example, when creating a character, instead of selecting hair for exmaple, pushing right on the analog stick to get to the choices is a bit strange, or moving the color sliders with the right stick, also took a getting used to. Also I notice when you search containers for items your inventory is selected by default instead of the container even when it's not a storage container and there's (afaik) no quick way to switch between container and inventory selection aside from manually moving your cursor one box at a time over to your inventory or container respectively. All that being said, so far I haven't experienced anything outside the realm of the typical indie game jank, and certaintly nothing game breaking. Those of us who love indie games are used to this kind of thing and are always willing to give feedback as the passion and creativity of the indie scene generally makes sticking with these games well worth it, and feeback helps the devs improve!

Such cute, me likey <3
TLDR: The game is rough around the edges, but has charm and systems in place that offset these issues. However, I'd wait to buy it on sale. This game really brings a new take on the farming sim genre with the use of the various transformation forms you can utilize. Being able to unlock these forms as a way to till fields and water crops, as well as explore, breathes a new life in mechanics for these types of games that I find is the highlight for Tales of Seikyu. Farming automation is given to you pretty early on, which I enjoy. It focuses on getting you to use the crafting system early, making smelters, kilns, pickling, etc. available to you within the first week of the game if you want to. Recipes for crating are tied to increasing your level of each category, like fishing, mining, combat, etc. The more you use a type of skill, the more options you will have unlocked. Exploration is a very important part of this game. You are encouraged to walk around the map, find what you can access, find what blocks are in your way and figure out through game mechanics
namely transformations
to get you to newer areas as well. The fox ruins are the best example of this. Instead of an area that is tied to mining in the way we see from other farming sims, this is more like one big, continuous dungeon that has main story beats tied to it as well. I enjoyed this immensely, but if you're someone that doesn't like exploring a lot to get resources like ores, this might be more frustrating for you. There are teleports that you unlock on the routes though, which make travel rather easy. Those are the highlights of this game for me right now. I have several issues that I hope get more polished as the game is developed. The pacing of this game is jarring. I feel like there are not many beats where the scene or the story is left to breathe. Within the first in game week I had multiple main quests, multiple heart quests, and a great many side quests. I don't mind having an excess number of quests to work on, but I could complete almost all of them within that first in game week. I didn't realize until about my current time in the game (20ish hours) that main story is tied to character relationships. It makes sequencing with character's stories within the main story kind of broken. I didn't realize that I needed to progress main story by speaking with villagers more often until I ran out of main story quests and nothing else to guide me. I have no problem with things like that, but this pacing feels off. I feel like it should be a little more lax at least within this first season. After all, your character has just arrived to Seikyu, it would make sense that things were a little slower until Summer, where the player has seen systems involved and understood how the sequencing of events should occur. My other big thing is that the characters feel a little flat to have that much importance tied to speaking with them daily (or as much as possible). I love the design of the characters, but when I walk up and they often recycle lines that I've already seen, and it hasn't even been 2 in game weeks, makes it feel like I don't need to spend my time by seeing them. The heart events are cute and I like the interaction letters in the mail. It just feels overall, the daily conversation options you can have with them, should offer a few more options. I would not currently recommend this game for someone who wants deep character stories in their farming sims. My last criticism, is that the game feels unpolished for its full price. I bought it on sale, but it has some pretty bad pop in, floaty movement, bounding box issues, as well as a lack of sound effects for visuals to be asking $25 in this current market for farming sims. I find the ui sound in the inventory grating, I don't hear anything for harvesting crops, there's not great sound from combat noises (like sword hitting, etc), sometimes there are water splash visuals in scenes and no sound to associate with it. Little things like that really add up to a lackluster overall experience. I'm sure something like this could be improved, but in its current state, its really hard to discern if something has happened. Its very theater of the mind right now. Overall, I would give the game a good 6/10 for its current state, which at the time of writing is 1.0. I do appreciate that the current update did implement a way to fix relationships and divorce if a player would like to, as I know it was a requested thing, even before I started playing. I hope to see community focused improvements as it continues to develop.
such a cute cozy gameeee
So far I really like the game, characters and storyline. The art is stunning, the music great, there is depth to each character and the story keeps you engaged. There is a lot to do and to explore (like Hephaestus' body) but I wish there were more customization options for the MC. More hairstyles, eyeshapes, make-up options, etc. I just feel like my character doesn't represent me in the way I would like them to physically. Of course, this is subjective, but I feel like giving players more options not just in gameplay but also in terms of customization can really make a big difference for some (aka myself). I am also currenlty playing on high graphics, but I still feel like the game looks a little... flat visually. It's nothing major, looks fine overall, just something to maybe consider improving over time. Sometimes the clothes also glitch and I feel like the hats are only made specifically for the first hairstyle and look too big on any other. But overall definitely worth getting into (like Hephaestus' pants) and playing!
