Cute characters, great art, horrible puzzles. The "Super Mario Galaxy" of traditional Sierra / LucasArts style adventure games has your characters walking around circular planetoids. Unfortunately, the puzzles they encounter are so illogical that a guide is absolutely required to make progress. Some locations even exist purely to confuse the player, and serve no true purpose. It's a real shame. I judge games by their gameplay, and Tales of Cosmos fails miserably, falling into all the bad habits of the old adventure genre, with bizarre solutions that no human being could ever guess. Even if you intend to randomly try things for hundreds of hours, sometimes you have to try the "thing" on the "thing" multiple times before you get the desired outcome with no feedback. "Try every object on every object, then try it again" is the marching order, and even then you're unlikely to ever make some of the logical leaps. Out of frustration, you will launch your slow spacecraft for another planet to see if you missed something, and watch your characters shuffle in slow motion, like geriatrics, around this beautiful scenery. For some solutions, you have to do the "thing" at the right time. How likely are you to make that leap? To stand in the same room, doing nothing, waiting for an event to happen? Not likely. The character movement is extremely slow, and flying between planets takes far too long as well. It feels like planets were placed a fair distance away from each other to artificially extend gameplay. Even the old Sierra adventures had game-speed controls. I would like to recommend it, because it is extremely cute and contains great art and animations (I love it when the little puppy fogs up his space helmet from panting). These characters deserve a better game. If you want to play through a short, cute adventure using a walkthrough (there is a steam community guide, thank god), go for it, but if you like to solve puzzles on your own, this romp through the cosmos will infuriate you.
*Gnome Seal of Approval* A pretty good game for its price. The characters are funny and the art in general is pretty darn good. However, it does feel a bit tedious and unintuitive at times. I was on the fence whether I'd recommend this or not, but ended up on a thumbs up because of the positive points mentioned above.
The game's got a lovely art style (although it's a bit of a shame that the palette is so dull) and a nice feel to it, but many of the puzzles are quite farfetched and I had to resort to using one of the steam guides to be able to complete it. It's not a bad game, but it lacks variety.
First of all: I'm so happy this game finally came out. I had played the demo version and was always hoping the full game would be published. Tales of Cosmos is a short and charming point and click adventure. You can explore seven planets, all of them waiting for you to solve puzzles. The two main characters are very sweet and have different abilities so they complement one another quite well. Therefore you need to solve puzzles by choosing them wisely or even separating them. Finishing the game took me a bit more than 5 hours but I haven't unlocked all the achievements yet (7 of 11). Moreover, considering the trailer I have the feeling there might be some "bigger" possibilities in the game I have missed, plus I have not used all my items yet. So maybe I need another one or two hours to find out what more there is to discover. + good-looking graphics + fluent gameplay + atmospheric music that does not annoy you + challenging puzzles + sweet characters with different abilities + large overworld to explore - characters are a bit slow sometimes so it takes a lot of time to travel In conclusion: 9/10, definitely recommended. p.s.: The very last game scene is soo beautiful. :)
I discovered the demo long time ago and fell in love with it, so I was a big pile of love when the complete version came out. It's a pretty entertaining game, it can become very repetitive, but you kinda want to keep going until you finish it. The puzzles are great, made me feel so stupid sometimes, but it was fun trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. The artwork OMG <3 simple yet beautiful.
The statue in honor of the heroes, made me went aaaaw <3
I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase, it was worth worth worth for me, and realizing only 2 people were involved in the making of this game was a big surprise, congrats to them and a big thank you!
Pros: Beautiful game, great animations. Cons: Stupid puzzles, terrible game flow. TL;DR: DON'T BUY THIS GAME. EVEN if it's on sale. Pay to NOT play this game.
Nota: 6/10
I really tried to like this title and gave it my best despite being a fan of point and clicks and space games, but it was just too frustrating. Very far fetched puzzles, close to impossible without a guide and due to constant need to back track and slow character motion it was just too much. Unfortunately, it's a pass for me.
