Mom can we have Taiko no tatsujin? We have Taiko no tasujin at home. Taiko at home: (tl:dr at the very bottom) In all fairness, I've been waiting for this game to come out for a while, i thought "ohhh a taiko game, i can finally re-live my childhood again." Past me was right, this is literally just a very simple rhythm game about hitting a drum, just like in the arcades. They have their own assortment of "traditional Japanese style" of music. You Get 4 Albums to pick songs from, and on top of that, custom song support. but the only thing that worries me is the "Taiko pass" in game, its like a sort of battle pass, though stuff in it is purely cosmetic, it still makes me wonder if they're adding micro-transactions. but I'm probably overthinking it and schizo so its probably fine. All in all, hopefully i get to see more added to the game and hopefully workshop support. tl;dr good game, very simple hit the drum rhythm game. has 4 OST albums. Has a free battle pass for cosmetics. Has Custom song support. Hopeful for workshop support. For now 7/10
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/1Zun4vALsXQ This is a fun music rhythm game. I can recommend it if you're into Taiko drums or this style of music, especially since it's budget priced at only $12.99 USD. However, it's not in the top tier of VR music rhythm games, such as Ragnarock or Beat Saber. It may be the best Taiko VR drumming game though. I enjoyed the musical soundtrack, which had enough variety but still fit the Taiko drumming genre. Once you set up your Taiko drums correctly, along with your position, I didn't notice any issues with mishits or anything like that. However, I did run into two issues which I wasn't sure if it was the game's fault. The first one is that I lost tracking about 3 separate times during my almost 2 hours of gameplay. The other issue, which I'm pretty sure is the game's fault, was I did notice a few micro-stutters (about 2-3 times during the 2 hours of gameplay). Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps. Other than the few micro-stutters, the game was playing perfectly. There's easy, medium, hard, and expert modes. There's also some modifiers that make the game easier. You can easily reset your height. I had to manually re-center my position though from Steam VR. Rate 6.5/10. Solid VR music rhythm game, just not top tier, with maybe some technical hiccups.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. An hour in to this game and it is a ton of fun and is worth the price specially with the current sale of $11.69. If this were to get some more updates to the hit timing with the outside drum hits (blue notes) and hopefully soon a community to make custom songs this is something that can and will be worth its price and more. Only two complaints I do have with this game is it does seem to have random slowdowns for me that I do not usually have in VR that does impact the ability to hit notes but it is not a big issue when it is near the intro of the song as you can just restart easily and quickly. I do find the blue notes to be a bit hard to hit sometimes sadly even though I do know I hit it on time or as close as possible but it counts as a complete miss. Some features that would be fun would to be maybe have an option for the drum to have collision with the sticks to maybe make hitting the blue notes feel nicer. As well as I would like to see an option to make the drum hit sounds louder then they are now as for myself personally I am used to like in beat saber where you can make the note slash sounds as loud or louder then the song itself to help with timing and knowing when I do hit the drum. A cool thing for if this game does pop off would be anime or external collabs with japanese songs like how it is in taiko no tatsuji. Thanks for the fun game!
Much better than expected
This is super unique, for a rhythm game. It's well made, very very polished, has lots of taiko style songs, and is really one of a kind. I'd love to see them add a multiplayer feature so I can play along side friends. If you are on the fence, give it a try. It's priced LOWER than I would expect for this well made of a game. And the challenge seriously ramps up in it too. Got question?
Neumodisch chinesisch?
Under priced VR rhythm game that somehow makes drumming more fun than using a cheap taiko drum controller. Heavily recommend if you love rhythm games in general. my complaints would be: sakura mode activation is wonky, i could move my hand all the way behind my head and it would refuse to activate. And hitting any face button pauses the game.
Super simple taiko rhythm game that's easy to learn and play. There are currently multiple songs and difficulties to choose from and even an option to create and modify songs. I like how there's a lot of different customization options that have to be earned by playing. If you like drumming, this game is for you.
leave society, hit the taiko and be le monkey
