The story and characters are better and more believable and strain my disbelief less than the ones of Baldur's Gate 3. For that reason, I like them better. Graphics aren't everything and I really like the spritework and the love and care that went into drawing all these characters. For this reason, I can't recommend this game enough.
If you're like me and haven't played the original and heard all the 'hype' around how good this game is, DO NOT BUY; it's a fine, typical, boring rpg, don't expect any particularly impressive writing, visuals, or wonder, and you might be able to slog through, I was not.
I like the gameplay overall, but the card system is a bit weird in the context of the world and things are thrown at you quite quickly. Good if you're ok with complex systems and you're hand not being held.
How awful the card system is can't be understated. It created visual clutter, and adds an RNG based mini-game to battles that was totally unnecessary. Bosses having innate card buffs was an incredibly stupid change when boss units already have tons of innate bonuses like immunity to status ailments. Replacing random battles with training battles was also pretty dumb, considering level grinding was never an issue, but now you're also locked out of earning money and recruiting units reliably in the early game. They also failed to actually improve the UI. You still have pages that will say "Adds Fortify" and if you hover over the description it's just "Fortifies the unit" OK WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???
One of the best remakes I've ever played! Take note team Final Fantasy Tactics; THIS is how you make a remake! NOT omit part of what makes it good, release it at full price while claiming that it has been 're-worked' from beginning to maintain originality when the story line stays the same.....
replayability is max
