Don’t be fooled by the fact it has an “adult patch.” This game doesn’t have any exciting sexual content.
I was bored with this story. I kept waiting for something "more" to happen.
I really looked forward to play this game, but my first play through being respectful and nice, I ended up with a last minuet character that was a let down, cause I really liked Terrance and spending time with him, so it was really disappointing not ending up with him. After I looked up a walkthrough and ended up with Terrance it felt like he was not given as much love as Bastian, there was less romantic scenes and pictures with Terrance and that was a letdown. Other thing that took me out of the game was that the microphones that the voice actors used scratched and peaked often, the game soundtrack was not that catching, most of the time it felt like it was not there and I ended up listening to Muse while playing.
It's OK. Despite the premise and storyline, it manages to be somewhat boring. Can't even put my finger on why that is. The art is ok, not extremely detailed but pretty. The voices are ok, some better than others. The story is ok, though kinda slow and choices kinda irrelevant to building up a romance (though they do gameplay-wise). So I guess it's the little things - maybe the atmosphere, too bright in some places, not cyberpunk enough. Maybe not enough CGs in regards to the biot's experiences as a human. Maybe too much of a calm and happy attitude on the biot's part, even though I think that was done on purpose to flesh him out as a non-human. Maybe the apparent lack of romantic progress. I think this is probably the bigges weakness, I don't think the couples "work", there's no "spark". They don't make me feel warm feelings, don't seem like there's much attraction there either (some flustered scenes but not enough development). You make your choice at the start when you don't know them and then deal with the situation. If you say enough nice things to them, you end up in bed with them and that's about it. Either way, it's closer to good than bad so I still recommend it.
Don`t let the game fool you. There is not a damn sex scene , even with the +18 patch. The game is not worth a purchase , even on sale it is not worth a damn penny and your precious time. The writing is not good and there are only very limited options.
Step into the world of Synthetic Lover, where it is the year 2066 and the futuristic world has managed to create android companions, biologically engineered humanoids a.k.a Biots, that are almost identical to humans. They are the majority of the workforce in this world and are considered as items or any other tech. You play as a Biot, Unit 352
( alias Ian )
who works as a sexual companion biot at an establishment called Dollhouse. His days go on as normal until crossing paths with an opportunistic thief called Bastian and a mysterious device in his possession that causes Unit 352 to start feeling more human-like feelings. Synthetic Lover is a BL/Yaoi visual novel game with 2 main love interests, 1 extra side romance, 7 different endings and a fully voice acted story. There is also a free 18+ Adult Only patch DLC that you can get which will make certain scenes extra spicy! As a fan of BL/Yaoi VNs this was definitely one of the more good ones in my opinion! The story was super interesting to me and I loved all the scenes. The art is so beautiful and the fact that the whole game is voice acted was fantastic! There was a few hiccups here and there with some voice lines being in the wrong order, but they were not that bad and there were just a few of those. I really enjoyed this game and I definitely would recommend it to any BL/Yaoi VN lovers. Definitely recommend getting the free 18+ patch as well, as long as you are of age. Definitely worth the high price tag.
🎮 Gameplay & Genre A sci-fi visual novel with BL/Yaoi romance and a strong narrative backbone. You’ll spend about 10–12 hours unlocking all achievements. There are two primary romance paths, and choices influence both story development and endings. No mini-games or RPG mechanics—just clean visual novel progression with depth. 🔥 M/M Content Explicitly M/M and emotionally resonant. The romance arcs are slow-burn, well-developed, and supported by steamy scenes that match the tone of the story. Two love interests—Bastian (hot-headed and passionate) and Rico (buttoned-up with hidden depth)—each offer meaningful emotional payoff. If you love redheads and bad boys with hearts of gold, Bastian may steal your soul. 🎨 Visuals & Style Stylish, sci-fi inspired art with striking character designs and detailed CGs. It’s polished and consistent throughout, and the futuristic aesthetic supports the tone. This developer clearly cares about visual cohesion across all their titles. 🗣️ Tone & Writing More serious and introspective than many BL titles. This game leans into the themes of identity, freedom, and emotional connection in a world where not everyone is treated as human. The writing is confident and mature without being overwrought. 👍 Best Thing The emotional sincerity. Synthetic Lover isn’t just sexy—it’s thoughtful. It wants you to care. 👎 Worst Thing Nothing major. If anything, the tone may be too earnest for those expecting lighter fare. ⭐ Final Verdict A standout sci-fi BL visual novel with strong writing, beautiful art, and emotional depth. If you want your M/M games to be sexy and serious, Synthetic Lover is an easy recommendation. Has a lot of potential but the end product is quite bland. The player should have been able to edit Ian's look or at least had the option to choose different variations of outfits. The story line is a very predictable read and it doesnt have a lot of depth or uniqueness. The minor characters are perfectly fitted for a certain stereotype by the devs. There's a bad guy mcbad and theres a jerk mcjerk and theres goodie two shoes. I wish there was more versitility, the game has a lot of potential but unfortunately the whole experience was a flat line for me.
Great Art and great story! One of the good ones out there!
