Swan Song

Swan Song is an emotional puzzle game set inside a music box. There are nine chapters, and for each puzzle, you will place music notes to move the swan to the final platform. I like that each chapter introduces new puzzle elements, such as new music notes that make the swan freeze, platforms that teleport the swan, and obstacles like a hunter to avoid. The story is emotional and follows Amber, Tristan, and their daughter Edith. You learn about Amber's eventual passing and the grief that followed. It took me 5 hours to play through all nine chapters of the game, and each chapter has an additional secret level to play, which adds more to the playtime. I do think the price is worth it. However, there is no hint system in the game, so if you do get stuck in a level, you have to keep placing the notes through trial and error or look up a playthrough for help. Also, I regularly encountered a bug where I would place a note on the musical scale, and it would get stuck, and I could not pick it up again. When I wound the music box, the note would not play, and after the swan failed to complete the level, the note would reset, and I could place it again. Despite that, I do think Swan Song is a great puzzle game, and I would recommend playing it.

Unique and challenging puzzle game with a sad story, beautiful music and secret levels

It's very simple puzzle with slow actions and menus and story about [spoiler]ill mom and weak dad[/spoiler]. I was expecting more challenge and less personal stories.

Swan Song is truly a cozy, simple little puzzle game that you struggle to put down. As you move along, the game does a good job at introducing new mechanics and building upon the puzzles to introduce more variation with it's simple design. The music is quite nice and is enjoyable to listen, yet doesn't become too much when you're thinking about the puzzles set before you. The visuals are good. There really isn't anything too much to note, but you can easily take note of all the moving pieces within the puzzle. The story is simple, but effective. I do wish there was more with the story, but for what it is, it works. There are some slight downsides to note down. For one, once the game has a full toolkit and the puzzles start becoming more interesting, the game does end. There are hidden puzzles you can find, but if you aren't one to look for the additional content, can leave you wanting for more since the game has finally put all it's pieces out for you to explore. Secondly, there can be a little visual clutter in the beginning of each puzzle. Specifically, all the notes can overlap one another from time-to-time off to the side which can make it hard to discern the pieces you have to make use of. Again, not a major complaint, but something which was slightly frustrating at times. For $7.99. Swan Song is an absolute easy choice to pick up. For those interested in puzzle games, curious seeing it around on the store page, or maybe a sale caught your eye; Swan Song is a precious title to sit back and enjoy. The game does an excellent job introducing new concepts to you and the puzzles never feel frustrating. It's a simple, cozy title and another lovely title for 2026.
