A solid but perhaps not remarkable or unique, point and click adventure. It's a typical adventure mystery setting, a remote abbey with a mysterios history and monks who have taken vows of silence. But the story does have a few interesting plot point. It does feel like something that could have come out in the 90:s. It's short, but also on the cheaper side, beeing <8€ so it's a good price IMO. The puzzles where good and where never too much moon logic, even if it wasn't entirely clear what your next step should be. There where a few times where I think the text bugged out and the spanish (i think) text came up, but it was only very minor points and never anything that really mattered. Looks like this is the first in a series of adventures from this dev, and it's a strong enough first entry, that I will definitly look forward to their next game. There are two ending achievements from a binary choice in the end and one collectable achievement, that is technically missable since one of them is in a late game area you can't return to. But there are also manual saves, so as long as you keep some backups throughout your adventure you'll be fine. The rest should unlock by just playing the game.

Scholar Adventure: Mystery of Silence is a classic point-and-click mystery adventure that successfully recreates the atmosphere of old-school narrative-driven games while delivering a dark and unsettling story centered around secrecy, isolation, and hidden truths. Developed by Ayose Trujillo and Making Enemies, and published by DevilishGames, the game follows a struggling writer named William who travels to a remote abbey seeking inspiration for his work. What initially appears to be a peaceful retreat gradually transforms into a disturbing investigation as William uncovers strange behavior among the abbey’s silent monks and begins discovering secrets hidden deep within the ancient structure. The game’s greatest strength is its atmosphere. From the very beginning, Mystery of Silence establishes an oppressive mood through quiet corridors, dimly lit chambers, and the constant absence of normal communication. The monks living inside the abbey have taken vows of silence, creating an environment where players are forced to rely on observation and environmental clues rather than direct conversations. This design choice works remarkably well because it transforms silence itself into a storytelling tool. Every hallway, hidden room, and shadowy corner contributes to the feeling that something deeply unsettling exists beneath the abbey’s peaceful exterior. The narrative unfolds slowly, allowing tension and curiosity to build naturally over time. William arrives hoping to overcome writer’s block and find material for literary success, but his curiosity quickly draws him deeper into the abbey’s hidden mysteries. Strange discoveries, cryptic clues, and unsettling environmental details gradually reveal a darker history tied to the monastery and its inhabitants. The pacing remains deliberately methodical throughout the experience, encouraging players to absorb the atmosphere rather than rushing toward constant dramatic revelations. What makes the story effective is its restraint. Mystery of Silence avoids excessive exposition and instead trusts players to piece together information through exploration and environmental storytelling. The game does not rely on endless dialogue or heavy-handed twists. Instead, suspense grows through unanswered questions and the increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere surrounding William’s investigation. Occasional moments of dark humor help balance the tension without undermining the game’s serious tone. Gameplay follows the traditional point-and-click formula closely. Players explore the abbey, interact with objects, collect useful items, and solve environmental puzzles in order to progress further into the mystery. The puzzles generally feel logical and grounded within the setting, avoiding many of the frustratingly obscure solutions that often plague weaker adventure games. Most challenges require observation, careful exploration, and thoughtful use of collected items rather than random experimentation. The compact runtime benefits the overall experience significantly. Lasting only a few hours, the game remains focused and avoids unnecessary filler or repetitive backtracking. Every room and puzzle feels intentional because the story never drags itself out beyond its core ideas. The shorter structure also helps maintain the oppressive atmosphere without allowing the pacing to become exhausting. Visually, the game embraces a detailed pixel-art style clearly inspired by classic adventure titles from the 1990s. The retro presentation works extremely well because it enhances the gothic atmosphere while preserving a sense of mystery within the environments. The abbey itself becomes one of the game’s most memorable elements thanks to its shadowy architecture, ancient corridors, hidden passages, and carefully detailed interiors. Lighting and muted color palettes constantly reinforce the feeling of isolation and quiet dread. Environmental storytelling is another major highlight. Rather than explaining every detail through dialogue, the game uses visual clues, old manuscripts, symbolic imagery, and abandoned objects to reveal pieces of the abbey’s hidden history. Players who take time to examine their surroundings carefully are rewarded with deeper understanding of the mystery and the darker truths buried inside the monastery walls. This subtle approach helps the world feel immersive and believable despite the game’s relatively simple presentation. The sound design also deserves praise for how effectively it supports the atmosphere. Music is used sparingly, often allowing silence and ambient environmental sounds to dominate the experience. Footsteps echoing through empty corridors, creaking wood, distant noises, and subtle ambient effects all contribute to the feeling of isolation. The restrained audio design perfectly complements the game’s central themes of silence and secrecy. Another admirable aspect is the game’s commitment to classic adventure design philosophy. Mystery of Silence clearly draws inspiration from older point-and-click adventures where exploration, atmosphere, and careful puzzle-solving took priority over cinematic action or modern gameplay systems. Fans of traditional narrative adventure games will likely appreciate how confidently the game embraces slower pacing and thoughtful exploration without relying on unnecessary distractions. However, the game is not without flaws. The relatively short runtime means certain characters and narrative threads feel somewhat underdeveloped by the time the story concludes. While the focused structure helps pacing, it also limits how deeply some of the game’s more interesting ideas are explored before the ending arrives. The puzzle design, while generally solid, may also feel too straightforward for veteran adventure game players looking for more challenging or elaborate problem-solving. The game prioritizes accessibility and pacing over extreme difficulty, which may disappoint players seeking more complex puzzle systems. The slower pacing and emphasis on atmosphere over action may also limit the game’s appeal for some audiences. Mystery of Silence is intentionally quiet and methodical, relying heavily on mood and environmental tension rather than dramatic gameplay sequences or fast-moving storytelling. Players unfamiliar with classic point-and-click adventures may find the experience slower than expected. Despite these shortcomings, Scholar Adventure: Mystery of Silence succeeds remarkably well at delivering an immersive and atmospheric mystery adventure. Its combination of gothic pixel art, strong environmental storytelling, carefully paced narrative design, and classic puzzle-solving creates an experience that feels both nostalgic and emotionally engaging. The game understands exactly what type of story it wants to tell and remains committed to its quiet, unsettling tone from beginning to end. For fans of traditional point-and-click adventures, slow-burning mysteries, and atmospheric indie games focused on exploration and storytelling, Scholar Adventure: Mystery of Silence offers a memorable experience filled with tension, curiosity, and haunting atmosphere. Its strong visual style, focused narrative, and classic adventure game structure make it one of the more compelling modern tributes to the golden era of point-and-click storytelling. Rating: 8/10
I agree with other reviewers - Mystery of Silence is short (about an hour and half to 100%). Worse, if you've played the demo, you've already played about 70% of the game. And the remaining 30% is much rougher: the narrative feels rushed and there are some bugs (or maybe just poor / lazy design - like Graver turns up in too many places at once). It's also a victim of purple prose, text that feels like it's trying hard to be deep and the result is meaningless noise. (Maybe Silence would have been redemptive here after all? Anyway.) As others have noted, the story doesn't really hold together. The ending leaves too much just boringly unresolved (rather than ambiguous on purpose, which is I think what it's trying for). At some point, Graver claims he's buried others who came to solve the mystery, but that's hard to believe given the horror is mostly atmospheric and the NPCs generally seem to keep to themselves and very little is every clarified about what actually happened / is happening. Also agree as others have noted that the scissors bit and the rock-paper-scissors moment feel dropped in from an entirely different game and genre. Ultimately: short, decent enough atmosphere, but not worth the sticker price especially if you got your hands on the demo. The story answers few if any of the questions it raises and the back third of the game really shows the seams.
Mystery of Silence is a short point & click adventure that for the most part is relatively easy to play. The atmosphere is appropriately spooky, but the game shoots itself in the foot a little bit with a main character that reacts too joyful and unimpressed to most of the things he is seeing or experiencing. Some of the puzzle solutions are a bit silly and seem to belong in a different game as well, e.g. the part with the scissors or the rock-paper-scissors mini game. The game also stays fairly one-dimensional the whole way, since most of the NPCs will not speak and the story is lacking in exposition and motivation. In fact, the motivation for William's actions remains largely a mystery as well. He is doing things because we, the player, want to progress the game, not because there is a logical explanation for what he is doing. Overall, I wasn't bored, so the game is not bad by any means. However, it is 8€ if not on sale and at best a little over an hour long with no replay value, so that knocks off a few points in my book. There are just so many other great, spooky p&c adventure games for the same price or just a bit more, which offer much more story and satisfaction. Maybe this was the developer's first game, then this is a good start, but it is still too pricy for what it ultimately has to offer.
Interesting, fun and it can be finished in a few hours, or less. Btw puzzles are not that hard. Nice point and click adventure, definitely worth the time.
