While I think the $20 price tag is a bit much, and a turn-off for a lot of people, the game itself is solid and offers a lot of fun. If you get into it, you will not have a hard time getting $20 worth of fun out of it. So if it looks like something you would enjoy I don't think you will be disappointed. If you are on the fence or never played this type of game, then I would say wait for a sale or monitor your game time closely so you can refund before the 2 hour mark. Here is a video of me playing the game, if you want to see what it looks like. https://youtu.be/cWIEogqTzxc [table] [tr] [th]If you enjoyed my review join our steam group. Survival Vacancy I recommend, for a game made by a single dev, its extremely impressive to see. But because it's only 1 dev, only so much can be done in a given amount of time. For the genre it feels like a bit of Oxygen Not Included, and a bit of factorio at its core, but aside from that it does have its own unique aspect which also sets it quite a bit apart from those titles. I'll start with the Pro’s: -runs pretty well if you are aware of what causes lag spikes to avoid that, Dev has told me personally, that he's working hard on fixing these before going to 1.0 -its a game that can be enjoyed both on the manual or automation side of factory assembly lines. If you want to micro manage the whole process you can, if you want complex systems of drones doing it for you, you can. -the art style is really catchy. -the dev has posted hot fixes within hours or just a few days of people posting critical bugs on the forums. -he has plans for additional late game content, but it sounds like that might be more of a scope for after going 1.0, as he's trying to get most current bugs and early game content balanced and put in. Now the Con’s: -It is only a single dev, so you can't expect the amount of shear volume other games of this style are able to dump into an EA game, but I have over 40 hours played at the time of writing this, and i have barely done more than early game content. -It's lacking quite a few of the UI or control type polish feeling, but those things usually are touched up near the very end of EA I would assume, so I hope those get addressed. -Since it's a 2D pixel game it relies quite heavily on cpu, where most current games rely more on GPU, so older computers might have a hard time even if it has a powerful GPU. -Very limited tech tree, I really hope this expands drastically. -Some core concepts make sense when you understand them, but initially feel confusing because of wrong assumptions. All in all, i do recommend you try this if you are a fan of automation style base games.
Survival vacancy is a very approachable simulation game that is in early access. Some notable features, lossless experimentation (make mistakes, try new things, see what happens), resource tiles as well as resource nodes, flight available (no limitations on movement besides the jet pack timer), well paced phases to the game. The first phase of the game, you're in what amounts to a safe sandbox. You can experiment with resource collection, production, supply chain. However, progress is gated by the introduction of enemies. Once you bring survivors in, you will be attacked, meaning you have to think through your supply chain beyond "just the next step". This is an interesting challenge when first encountered and effectively shapes gameplay once understood. That is another area the game shines, there are lots of reasonably deep interactions with the player. Setting up supply chains using storage boxes as buffers/queues works very well, allowing redirection of resources AND circumventing the limitations of carrier rails. Boxes are the way you're able to move resources OVER other carrier rails. When I got confused in the game (I found the research mechanic hard to suss out), I went to the developer discord. There, within minutes of contributing to a bug conversations, the dev jumped into the conversation. This was on a sunday morning, pacific coast, US. That's outstanding dedication by a solo dev. Do I think this game will achieve the level of polish as ONI, nope. It is one dev. However, the subject matter is interesting, the environment fun to explore, the resource gathering system brings both joy and challenge. There is a LOT to like about this game, but you have to take it for what it is: A labor of love by a dev to bring a difficult vision to life. If you enjoy games such as Factorio or ONI, this is an interesting hybrid of the two.
The game is unfinished. The tutorial is patchy and missing details. Food system is not complete. You are supposed to be able to farm, but I see no details on how to do it. Factory building is flawed as you cannot split your rail/conveyor belts. Don't think the developers are working on this game any more. Time better spent on other games like Fortresscraft evolved or Satisfactory.
Fans of Factorio and Oxygen Not Included will find something to like in this hidden little gem of a game. From Factorio you will recognize the good old conveyor belts the automation and blueprints. The need to constantly upgrade and make your production run smoother and faster. The similarities to ONI are that you get workers with their own stats that level up which you can assign to different productions such as electrical, smithing, farming, cooking. They need to be provided housing, food, waste management and then be kept safe from the mutants which attack each night. Overall very happy with my purchase I'm surprised the reviews aren't better but I think most come from before 1.0 one mentioned there being no hotbar which there is now. Dev seems active and involved I'm really looking forward to seeing where this goes. For a small indie game I think the price is fair.
Um survival sandbox estilo Terraria, com uma pegada de automação como Factorio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6UG80diJrs
This game is not for everyone. In essence, it resembles Terraria, but literally from the very first minute, it differs in everything. Survival Vacancy seems to have a lot of potentials, especially if the developers intend to update the game. This is a sandbox that you can play with a friend, there are achievements. This is a great option for those who are ready to devote a lot of time to building and optimizing extraction and resource transportation lines.
