Three years ago, a developer on a forum informed me that an "English localization was planned". Nothing has changed since then. Wasted money.
This is a fun simulation game! I started to play for the art style. Although we're all waiting for an English release, I played over 40 hours with Google translate. I do have a tiny bit of knowledge with Chinese, so I understand most parts. Maybe... 75%? XD It took me three playthroughs as female MC. I'm ready to play as male MC soon, and hopefully it'll only take me two playthroughs this time. Three major points you should be aware of: 1) If you're playing as male MC, choose a team of girls. If you're playing as female MC, choose a team of boys (with an exception of Xia Xiaoai who is the only girl you can have a romantic ending with female MC, which you'll find out as soon as you play, so this isn't a spoiler). The reason being is when I played as female MC three times, I could never get more events with the girls. There's no such thing as a friendship ending. (Unless I'm mistaken...?) The girls are pretty cool and cute! It was unfortunate, but that's why I'm going to play as male MC next. 2) If you're playing this in Easy Mode, you can totally skip the battles and force victory. This makes it easier to proceed. I found this out later near the end of my first playthrough. But if you want achievements in the game, you'd probably go for other difficultly levels. 3) Always win your battles. A tie is okay at one point, but once you battle Team Redmoon (or was it another team? lol I can't say for sure and I'm not about to test it), you have to win no matter. Otherwise, a part of the story will be skipped and you'll get confused! About the characters: While I do have favorites, I think every character has been quite enjoyable to watch, including NPCs that I wish we could get romantic endings with as well. Each team have memorable characters, and within each team, they complement each other well. I wish there was more though, something more in-depth. Otherwise, I just have to make it up in my head. XD I was a fan of Team Meteor for a while, but on my second playthrough where I unlocked a part of the story I missed, I'm pretty much a fan of all teams we've faced. About the background music: The OSTs sound great. I even bought them on steam beforehand, however, I realized not all OSTs were available for download. I hope there'll be a second release of the soundtracks someday. I get a lot of otome vibes from the OSTs steam doesn't have for download. Hopefully I didn't miss anything else that should be mentioned. Oh! Sometimes we get pop quizzes in class and sometimes I get the same question a few times later. XD You have very little time to answer a question too. (10 seconds only.) I had to rely on my own knowledge I studied in school before, like "The Analects" and such. Some questions may seem odd because they will ask you who is the captain of a certain team and what was MC's previous class, etc etc Sometimes I made random guesses, since they give you three answers to choose from. This is all I have to write for the most parts. I hope I didn't miss anything major. They said English release is under negotiation last year, so I hope they still plan to release this in English this year or the next! I highly recommend this game!
Surmount, developed by Cat Run Studio and published by CE-Asia, is a multifaceted simulation and strategy game that immerses players in the competitive world of esports. Released on Steam in February 2022, the game places players in the role of a university student turned coach, tasked with leading an esports team to championship glory. By blending team management, strategic planning, and relationship-building mechanics, Surmount delivers a unique and engaging gameplay experience that goes beyond typical simulation games. The gameplay centers on managing an esports team and guiding them through rigorous competitions. Players are responsible for balancing training schedules, rest periods, and competitive events to optimize their team’s performance. Each team member possesses distinct skills, personalities, and potential, requiring careful planning to tailor training and strategy for maximum effectiveness. Additionally, the game incorporates an intelligence-gathering system, allowing players to scout opponents and formulate strategies accordingly, adding a deep layer of tactical decision-making that rewards foresight and adaptability. Beyond the competitive elements, Surmount places a strong emphasis on narrative and character development. Players must cultivate relationships with their team members, navigating conversations, events, and moral choices that influence the team’s cohesion and morale. The game also features a romance system, allowing players to develop intimate bonds with certain characters, adding depth and personalization to the story. Every choice has consequences, impacting both the immediate outcomes of competitions and the long-term narrative arc, making player decisions meaningful and engaging. Visually, the game adopts a vibrant anime-inspired art style, with detailed character designs and meticulously crafted environments that bring the esports world to life. The music and sound design complement the gameplay, heightening the tension during competitions while enhancing emotional moments in the story. Together, the visual and auditory elements create an immersive experience that draws players into the dual challenges of strategy and interpersonal dynamics. While the game excels in combining strategy, management, and narrative, it does have some drawbacks. Early stages can feel slow, as building a strong team and understanding the mechanics requires patience. Additionally, some players may find certain events or dialogues repetitive, which can slightly diminish the sense of progression. However, these minor issues do not overshadow the game’s overall appeal. Overall, Surmount is a thoughtfully crafted simulation that successfully integrates esports management, strategic planning, and character-driven storytelling. It challenges players to balance tactical decision-making with emotional intelligence, creating a layered and rewarding experience. For fans of anime-style simulation games or those interested in the intricacies of esports management, Surmount offers a rich and immersive journey that is both strategically and emotionally engaging.
