Best game since Doom.
OMG this game is the best! Finally what I've been looking for: A proper Doom clone (and I mean no insult by saying that). Huge large levels - let's get lost in this dream. Large battles that don't feel cheap. Monsters Infight!!!! Nuff said! Solid soundtrack (I'm looking at you Outpost Romeda 🤤) Nerdgasm Aesthetics. (Oh how I love me some solid computer screen animations with blinky lights! *drools*) This game just hits it right! I'm so HAPPY! I've tried so many boomer shooters and this is the first one I'm genuinely excited about. I know some people like to blaze through levels quick and speed run everything. Can you do so? Probably, but I like to play levels tactically and semi-slowly sneak around popping off enemies as I whittle down the masses with taking as little damage and using as little ammo as possible. It's always been a fun challenge I give myself. You can totally do that in this game and the monster infighting makes it twice as fun. If you like doing that this is one of the few boomer shooters you can do that with. For everyone else just ignore what I said cause you're still going to love this. -Weapons- So far, all solid (only have the first 4 weapons so far). They feel and sound great! What I like is every weapon is useful throughout the game. They all have a primary and secondary fire that are both useful for different circumstances. Well done!
my goodness. goose the saturation a bit and the gamma a hair; fine tune in the
area you join the rotary club
. it's an fps since relentless frontier, which was an fps since selaco. oh and
RELENTLESS SUPPLICE
make it happen e1: however, the redcan lights + other red canisters that do not explode when i click them is actually against the law and i'm pressing charges. i was willing to go this far without mentioning lack of nacho cheese cheevos and jumping. please, let me jump. this is a dangerous place. e2: okay, fine, found some exploding barrels
This is my first review of any game, any where, ever. The main reason is the amazing music. Reminds me of the highest quality prog rock, heavily synth laden. Nice guitar licks, funky bass lines and interesting grooves. I wonder if it's creators have heard of the band Haken?
The secondary fire on this shotgun could blow the balls off of God. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty (I play a *lot* of classic Doom + Doom adjacent releases). It's incredibly fun. I played the demo as well way back and that was great. Mechadon is the king of long levels that don't devolve into tedium and he cooked with these. The fights are hard but fair, secret hunting is fun and the rewards are worth it. It has story if you want it. It's skippable but I'm getting into it. Kind of like if Doom and Marathon drunk banged.
The levels are interesting, if overlong. The lore is very well written. The music is REALLY good for a boom-shoot. You can really tell there's a lot of passion behind this from a lot of experienced doom modders. The weapons are just OK, the monsters as well, and they love dropping a ton of monsters behind you from a monster closet. IMO, the first episode was the most fun, and the design / drive to play suffered after that. I probably won't finish Supplice, as much as I want to. Solid experience, but if you're not already a boomer shooter fan, this probably isn't going to be the one to change your mind. Love doom mods and wanna support a passion project? Then it's worth the money.
It's a tense, lonely ride, that handles like an instant genre classic from the jump. Incredible level design, insane soundtrack, arguably the best arsenal in boom shooting, banger set piece encounters around seemingly every corner, etc.
Oh man, why isn’t this one more well known? At the time of writing, there are only four episodes available, with two more apparently on the way, and I honestly can’t wait for the rest. This is built on GZDoom, but it’s more than just a Doom total conversion. There is a story here, something about AI, and all that good sci-fi stuff. I mostly mashed through the story bits because I just wanted to blast things, but it is there, and it’s mainly presented through terminals. At its core, this is a boomer shooter running on GZDoom, and it absolutely delivers. The weapons are really fun, the shooting feels great, and the level design is excellent. You are constantly unlocking shortcuts that make backtracking smoother, and there are loads of secrets with meaningful permanent upgrades. Episodes don't have many levels but each one is large. The guns are a highlight. It has a great shotgun pair, the combat feels satisfying, most of the enemies are fun to fight, and the bosses are pretty good too. Each episode adds something new to the experience. I did find Episode 4 a bit weaker than the others, mostly because the theme and environments didn’t really grab me, but it still wasn’t bad. One odd issue I had was with the story terminals. If I left them open for too long, they caused a really aggressive sort of “burn-in” effect on my monitor. I could still see the text stuck on the screen for a while after leaving the game, even after turning off the monitor and computer and coming back later. It happened twice, but thankfully it faded in the end. I fixed it by running the game through Gamescope and capping the FPS. Anyway, if you enjoy Doom-likes, you will very likely enjoy this. It deserves way more attention.
