ENG: A Castlevania so indie that it's about rescuing indie developers, with an unserious plot, much like its trailer. On the positive side, it's entertaining and, despite being somewhat simplistic in its gameplay, it offers diverse content: maps, bosses, weapons, and a sort of WTF transformation/vehicles. The number of enemies is vast, and they all have well-crafted death animations, which shows that a lot of effort was put into it. On the negative side, the levels are somewhat linear, and the game lacks originality overall, relying heavily on the nostalgia factor. You won't discover anything new with Super Indiemania, but you'll have a good time, especially in the boss fights.

This game is worth every penny. I'm always hunting for Castlevania clones and Indiemania really does well putting its own spin on the formula. The only thing that made me apprehensive to try it was the amateurish art, but the screenshots don't really capture how skillful the animations are. There's little as rewarding as beating a tough boss battle and being duly rewarded with images of their head being ripped open and brains splattering all over. So much is going on under the hood here, and it's all about the little touches. This probably has my favorite implementation of the Sonic-style underwater air bubble mechanic. Occasionally there's fun sections where you're able to use an item/creature that grants unique powers, like turning into a giant frog or a plant helicopter. The levels are expansive and encourage a little bit of exploration and there's so much enemy variety between stages. I would feel no shame buying such a fully featured game at full price. Please make more!
I've only reached Stage 2 but this is good stuff and I've played a crap ton of these "vanias" Always eat the wall meat. Developer is responsive in the forums.
Decent Castlevania like game.
This game was hard. I beat it on easy out of 3 total difficulties, which still felt difficult. But this game definitely feels rewarding once you complete a stage. The ending was worth it. It plays and reminds me of old SNES games. Like Mario, Lost Vikings, Castlevania, and many others. Would recommend.
Super Indiemania is a retro-inspired action platformer that confidently embraces the design philosophy of classic side-scrolling adventures. Developed and published by IndiemaniaDev, the game draws clear inspiration from the early era of challenging action games, focusing on precision platforming, methodical combat, and rewarding exploration instead of modern conveniences. It delivers a straightforward experience built around carefully crafted stages, encouraging players to rely on skill and persistence as they battle through a world filled with monsters, hidden secrets, and memorable boss encounters. While it does not attempt to redefine the genre, it succeeds by staying committed to the timeless formula that made classic action platformers so enjoyable. Combat is centered around the protagonist's versatile whip, which can strike in multiple directions, allowing players to adapt to enemies approaching from above, below, or at awkward angles. Alongside the primary weapon, players gain access to a wide variety of secondary tools that expand combat strategies. From projectile-based attacks to defensive equipment that can shield against incoming threats, each special weapon serves a distinct purpose and encourages experimentation. The combat remains engaging because enemy placement often requires thoughtful positioning rather than reckless aggression, rewarding players who learn attack patterns and manage their resources efficiently throughout each stage. The game's level design strikes a satisfying balance between progression and exploration. Although stages follow a mostly linear structure, they contain numerous hidden rewards that encourage players to search every corner. Secret health upgrades, additional lives, ammunition, and score bonuses are tucked away behind breakable walls or hidden pathways, making exploration feel worthwhile instead of optional. Environmental variety also helps maintain a steady sense of discovery, with players journeying through haunted forests, castles, graveyards, giant beehives, mushroom-filled landscapes, underwater kingdoms, and other imaginative settings. Each area introduces fresh visual themes, hazards, and enemy combinations that prevent the adventure from becoming repetitive. One of Super Indiemania's greatest strengths is its diverse collection of enemies and bosses. Familiar horror-inspired creatures such as skeletons, zombies, vampires, dragons, and monstrous beasts all require different approaches, while larger boss encounters provide satisfying tests of timing and pattern recognition. The game also introduces occasional gameplay twists that add variety to the adventure. Players may find themselves riding minecarts through dangerous environments, controlling unusual vehicles equipped with special weapons, or navigating sections with entirely different mechanics. These moments offer refreshing breaks from traditional platforming while remaining consistent with the game's retro arcade identity. The narrative is intentionally simple and humorous, serving primarily as a fun backdrop for the action. Players are tasked with defeating the Evil Nerd, a villain responsible for imprisoning the souls of indie game developers inside a cursed game world. As the hero fights through each stage, the objective becomes rescuing these trapped souls while bringing an end to the villain's scheme. The story never overwhelms the gameplay with lengthy dialogue, instead maintaining a playful tone that complements the nostalgic presentation and lighthearted personality of the adventure. Visually, Super Indiemania captures the charm of classic pixel-art platformers with colorful environments, expressive character sprites, and readable animations that make combat easy to follow. The retro aesthetic is paired with gameplay that values patience and mastery, creating an experience that will especially appeal to longtime fans of classic action games. Newcomers should expect a fair amount of challenge, as success depends on learning enemy behavior, mastering jumps, and carefully managing available resources rather than relying on forgiving checkpoints or modern accessibility features. Overall, Super Indiemania is a heartfelt tribute to the golden age of 2D action platformers. Its enjoyable combat, varied environments, rewarding exploration, creative weapon selection, entertaining gameplay diversions, and satisfying boss battles combine to create an experience that feels both nostalgic and engaging. While its old-school difficulty and design choices may not appeal to every player, those looking for a traditional platforming adventure with plenty of personality will likely find it to be a worthwhile experience. Developed and published by IndiemaniaDev, the game successfully captures the spirit of classic side-scrolling adventures while adding enough original ideas to stand confidently on its own.
