About
A mystery is afoot: your crush has gone missing at Sunset High. Worse, they texted you last night. Even worse? You’re stuck in a time loop. Dive into this narrative-driven, 2D, choose-your-own-adventure as you rewind and fast-forward through the chaos of high school life.
“'Turnip Games has crafted something special here—a quiet, introspective journey that proves you don’t need a big budget or complex mechanics to tell a powerful story. Sunset High is a reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful adventures happen in the places we least expect.” -
"Sunset High is just so unapologetic in everything it decides to do, and it’s hard not to love that" - LootLevelChill
"The writing in this game is impeccable" - The Nerd Chat
Sunset High is a 2D, story-rich, choose-your-own-adventure game set to release in 2025. Get to the bottom of the mystery by playing students against each other, rewinding your decisions, and leveling up the protagonist's inner personas as you navigate the cliques and social dilemmas of being a student trapped in a time loop. As you loop, change the course of the timeline as you explore different outcomes all in the service of the mystery. Enter the halls in this narrative-driven, noir.
See how the medium of video games can push narratives in places unexpected. Become the detective, figure out where K_____ is, see how your choices matter, and play with all the interesting mechanics which tie with each other thematically to create ludonarrative resonance.
What better way to solve a mystery than being able to rewind your actions and witness what could have been if you had asked that question instead of the one you chose? Our rewind system is fully integrated and lets you rewind as long as you want in order to see how the consequences of your actions play out differently. Not happy with an outcome? Rewind and see how the consequences change.
Conversely, being stuck in a time loop can be tedious. Control the flow of time and fast forward to critical moments of the game in order to see the butterfly effect of your actions. Become a time lord.
No one really knows anyone do they? The way you think about yourself will never be the same as how a stranger views you, or your best friend, or your parents. Perhaps we are a multitude of individuals living as one. Develop your detective persona as you listen to a particular voice inside your head to help crack the mystery. Level them up & unlock more opportunities to interact with the world.

Get to know your fellow students, each of which representing one of the cliques that run the halls of Sunset High. Ambrose the Nerd, Ava the Prep, Bobby the Slacker, Bronwyn the Jock, and Dee the Punk. All with their own personalities, wants, and desires.

The story has enough content to keep the player engaged for many hours. Most of the fun going through this game comes from finding out how to get to the next part of the story, but the real excitement comes from the tangible sense of nostalgia that Sunset high provides any child of the 90s. High School drama, the art style, even the story bring me right back to days long gone.
The Artstyle of this game is great the vibes of everything remind me of a mix of Life is Strange, and Disco Elysian. However that being said, It was alot of Reading, ALOT of reading, and to me it felt as if I had to follow a very specific path that felt scripted even tho it said there was choices, I couldnt figure out how to talk to the other students in the room at certain points because the game sort of Guides your character with these character trails, Not a fan of that. I like free roaming and this was very ON- RAIL and reading. The music is cool but I believe every character you talk to has diffrent music and one is VERY VERY loud. I think for some people this game can be great, But this is just NOT my type of game apparently. Give it a shot if u like reading and can figure it out.
Sunset high immerses you in its creative and mysteries world from the word go. I was fascinated as my actions began to affect those around me and I felt the weight of my decisions. The warm and unique art style mixed with beautiful dreamy tunes will have you entranced in the games rich story and engaging characters. Would Highly recommend for any fans of puzzle or story-driven games.
Sunset High challenges its players to carefully consider their choices and dialogue responses. I've really enjoyed navigating solving a mystery while reliving the different social dynamics of high school life. The rewind mechanic is really cool, and I learn something new every time I change which decisions I ultimately make. 10/10 would recommend. Big shout out to the development team!
Existential time-loop dream core vibes. The characters have depth. The story? Though-provoking and dark. The music? banger after banger. And the art? lovely. I enjoyed getting sucked into this weird little world in my search for K. This game made me question my life choices at 2am andddd broke down the double slit-experiment in a way that I actually enjoyed. I also liked that I learned some random facts through my conversations with my classmates :3 You should play it so you can experience what I experienced and so we can talk about it.
Fun and silly concept!
Buggy, sometimes freezes, the soundtrack is getting boring and annoying quickly and characters’ theme soundtracks do not blend in with the rest of the game. Had to refund The idea is good, the execution not really. Also other positive reviews from 29 July give off ChatGPT vibes… sketchy
What starts as a straightforward mystery about a missing person at Sunset High gradually becomes something much more personal and emotionally resonant. The high school setting perfectly captures that specific anxiety of being a teenager where every choice feels monumentally important. The devs clearly understand how it feels to navigate friendships, romantic tension, and social dynamics when you're still figuring out who you are. The dialogue rings true, full of those awkward pauses and half-said things that define teenage communication. The mystery itself is compelling, but what kept me playing was how the story explores the relationships between characters. There's a authenticity to how these students interact—the way they support each other, hurt each other, and struggle to communicate what they really mean. It reminded me of my own high school experience in ways that were sometimes uncomfortable but always genuine. The time-manipulation element adds interesting layers to the storytelling, though I won't spoil how. Let's just say it enhances the themes rather than feeling like a gimmick. The simple 2D art style serves the story well, keeping focus on the characters and their emotional journeys. This is a coming-of-age story disguised as a mystery game, and it succeeds at both. If you've ever wondered "what if I'd said something different in that moment," this game will resonate with you.
I got my review key for Sunset High the same week that I finally bought Blue Prince, and let me start my review by saying that Sunset High held its own for three or four days against the puzzling masterpiece. I don’t know if I can offer higher praise than that, even if this comprehensively listed Sunset High’s many positive qualities. Sunset High by Turnip Games is the love child of Disco Elysium, Brick, and Groundhog Day, a poetic pixelated time loop mystery. You play as a social introvert whose crush vanishes overnight, leaving you to navigate high school politics, quantum physics classwork, and the onset of mysterious time powers in order to find out their whereabouts. It’s a daunting task. The game unfolds uniquely, constrained to a handful of scenes while the sordid story of whodunit, how, and why unfolds in well-written and labyrinthine conversation menus recursively explored in the time loop. The colorful cast of characters have charming pixel art portraits that vary as events effect moods and attitudes amongst the characters. A rewind/fast forward mechanic can render much of the challenge of the game a simple matter of patience to meticulous planners, but more casual gamers or neophytes to time travel gameplay might find themselves occasionally trapped in unsatisfactory loops and patterns, unsure of how to progress. The game does reward meticulous detective work, but it doesn't hold your hand - practice and repetition are your curse, guide, and weapon here. The game does have some small glitches that speak to it being a small team and a passion project, but I didn't find them to be game-breaking - in fact, my favorite bug, when I accidentally triggered every single end-of-class presentation at once, felt almost like part of the game, timelines unexpectedly colliding and unraveling under my investigative assault. As I'd stay up past the wee hours of the morning pursuing quantum leads, it felt like the early days of the internet, finding uncut gems on Flash portals and behind forum links. Not everything was perfect, but we didn’t need it to be either - especially if it was saying something interesting. As I dive steely-eyed into the New Game+ mode that follows a late-game reset, I can solidly recommend Sunset High for patient, thoughtful gamers that want a game they can sink their teeth into; Disco Elysium completionists looking for a quantum Portal-like mechanic to speed-run their conversation simulator; and people who really wish that Brick and Victoria Mars had a little bit more science fiction.
