mahjong deluxe 3 achieved something incredible. while both are lazy mobile trash, it made the awful first game look like a masterpiece in comparison. (I skipped the second because it's 3d-only, don't care for that in mahjong, only adds busywork with the camera.) 640 levels altogether, 480 2d and 160 3d, divided into 8 packs based on difficulty. every layout is available from the start but numbers on level select are way off, these clowns can't even count. says there are 350 2d layouts, for instance, but at least it doesn't claim to have a billion levels by counting everything twice, like the first game. still no layout preview, kindly open every level individually to see what they look like. also, every tile is available to match on 3d levels, what's the point? menu navigation isn't great. there aren't always arrows to click, leaving only clunky mobile swiping or clicking half-hidden images. in-game controls are fine on 2d levels, even these guys couldn't mess that up. 3d controls, on the other hand, are bad. wheel zooms, not mentioned anywhere, and both that and rotation (by holding the left mouse button, which sometimes briefly and unnecessarily flashes a touch icon) are too sluggish. a half-decent game would have settings for these, or simply work properly, not this bad joke though. rules and controls are explained before the first 2d and 3d levels but the 3-star rating is based solely on completion time now. the timer toggle is still available in the pause menu but how they managed to make the game have even less functionality than the first one in the series is beyond me. here's a quick list I posted as feedback years ago, with some new additions now. went just as unignored as the one I wrote up for the first game. such an attentive, caring and competent developer.

can't change the language anywhere and it defaults to windows regional settings (same as mahjong deluxe 1).
some accented characters aren't displayed properly (same as md1).
no settings in the main menu, only in-game (same as md1).
no exit button, have to press alt+f4 (same as md1) or esc on the startup screen.
no volume settings, only sound on/off and music on/off (same as md1).
no windowed mode toggle (it's half-mentioned in md1, f11 and alt+enter both work here too).
the game always starts in full screen (windowed status and size are saved in md1).
no ui at all while playing, only esc works to bring up a barebones menu (there's a ui in md1).
no tooltips for the icons (they're in md1).
no undo (it's in md1).
no shuffle (it's in md1).
can't turn off the matching effect (possible in md1).
the timer is a lot more annoying and constantly flickering (it's a simple clock in md1).
no customization (there are a few backgrounds and 2 tilesets in md1).
I could probably go on but needless to say, avoid this like the plague, along with the rest of the series and the developer's other half-assed (not even quarter-assed, actually) products.
A very meh Mahjong game with a whooping 640 levels to play. 160 of them are 3D, the rest are plain normal levels. I am personally not a fan of the 3D ones because I find the movement really annoying (and for me it would also randomly reset at where I was looking at sometimes), but the normal ones are fine. However you can not possibly lose it, the game will just reset the positions of the tiles left which kinda completely defeats the purpose of the game in my opinion. Works fine on Linux with Proton (7.0-2).
Better than the last one. But I still hate EnsenaSoft.
----------------------------- Finally an EnsenaSoft game that I can recommend, even if it's a paid alternative to something that exists for free on the internet. It is very similar to your other Mahjong Deluxe games, in this the objective is also to connect the symbols while listening to a single boring music in the background., the difference is that this time the player has MUCH more levels for the price charged and the 3D interface (the game has mahjong in 2D and 3D) works much better than Mahjong Deluxe 2. I recommend it if you like Mahjong (not my case, I got it in a bundle), but I still wouldn't buy it at full price (not that it's much, but like I said, there's free Mahjong online).
Stop collecting scrap!

Mahjong Deluxe 3
Nota: 8/10
Mahjong Deluxe 3 is a large-scale, comfort-focused puzzle game that leans fully into the timeless appeal of mahjong solitaire rather than attempting to modernize or reinvent it. Developed and published by EnsenaSoft, the game’s defining strength lies in its sheer volume of content and its commitment to accessibility, offering a calm, methodical experience designed for players who enjoy clearing tile layouts at their own pace. It positions itself as a digital collection of puzzles first and foremost, prioritizing consistency and familiarity over novelty. The core gameplay follows the classic rules of mahjong solitaire: players remove pairs of matching tiles from layered layouts, with the restriction that only “free” tiles—those not blocked on both sides and not covered—can be selected. This simple mechanic forms the backbone of every puzzle in the game. What elevates Mahjong Deluxe 3 above more modest entries in the genre is the sheer number of boards available. With hundreds of distinct layouts spread across multiple themed sets, the game offers an almost endless supply of puzzles, making it particularly appealing to players who value longevity and repetition as a form of relaxation rather than a drawback. The layouts themselves range from traditional flat designs to more complex three-dimensional constructions that add an extra layer of spatial awareness. In the 3D boards, players can rotate the structure to better understand how tiles are stacked, which can make solving puzzles feel more tactile and engaging than in strictly 2D presentations. Randomized tile placement ensures that even familiar layouts do not play out exactly the same way twice, subtly increasing replay value without altering the core mechanics. Progression in Mahjong Deluxe 3 is light and non-intrusive. Players earn star ratings based on performance, typically influenced by speed and efficiency, which provides a gentle incentive to replay boards and improve results. This system adds just enough structure to encourage optimization without introducing pressure or punishing failure. There is no overarching narrative or character progression; advancement is measured simply by how many layouts you’ve completed and how well you’ve mastered them. Visually, the game adopts a clean and functional style. Tile designs are easy to read, with clear symbols and consistent coloring that reduce eye strain during long sessions. Backgrounds and board themes are understated, serving as neutral backdrops rather than focal points. This restraint works in the game’s favor, as it keeps attention firmly on the puzzle itself. While the presentation may feel plain compared to more stylized modern puzzle games, it aligns well with the title’s purpose as a relaxed, distraction-free experience. Audio design reinforces this low-pressure atmosphere. Background music is gentle and unobtrusive, intended to fade into the background rather than demand attention. Sound effects for tile selection and matching are subtle but satisfying, providing feedback without breaking concentration. Together, the audiovisual elements create a calm environment well-suited to extended play sessions. Where Mahjong Deluxe 3 may divide players is in its lack of customization and advanced options. The game offers limited control over difficulty beyond choosing different layouts, and features such as timers, hints, or undo systems are not as flexible or robust as some players might expect. For casual players, this simplicity can be a virtue, keeping the experience straightforward and approachable. For more demanding puzzle enthusiasts, however, the absence of deeper systems or fine-grained control may feel restrictive. Community reception reflects this split. Many players praise the game for its massive selection of boards and its ability to function as a dependable, relaxing pastime. Others criticize it for feeling dated or overly basic, particularly when compared to puzzle titles that incorporate narrative layers, progression systems, or innovative mechanics. Expectations play a significant role in how the game is perceived: those seeking a faithful, content-rich implementation of mahjong solitaire tend to be satisfied, while those hoping for evolution within the genre may be disappointed. Ultimately, Mahjong Deluxe 3 succeeds by doing exactly what it sets out to do. It delivers a vast collection of mahjong solitaire puzzles in a clean, accessible package that emphasizes relaxation and repetition over challenge or experimentation. It is not a game designed to surprise or transform the genre, but rather one that celebrates it through abundance and simplicity. For fans of traditional mahjong solitaire looking for a long-lasting, low-stress puzzle companion, it offers a dependable and satisfying experience that can be returned to again and again.
