I have to say, I definitely enjoyed the experience overall, but wanted to break down my review into pros and cons I had thoughts on over the course of the game. PROS: - The new combat. At first, I was skeptical and confused by the new battle system, and I really missed the grid based system we had before, but just give it a chance. I still love the first 3 games combat, but this one really had a lot more depth to it, and Icari was actually incredibly, useful unlike the first 2 installments. - The upgrade system Oh my God this is so much more well done than the first 3 games. I felt like I could actually get a lot of upgrades thanks to the amount of credits I was getting, and it felt much more gratifying here. I really love the small detail of seeing each Ryder in their own unique hangar bays too. Good job on the art there. - The art Speaking of the art, it's improved significantly since the first game. It's really been cool seeing how it's only gotten better every time, so great job again. Seeing Asaga's appearance specifically in the first game compared to this one is pretty crazy. - The characters/writing For the most part, I think the writing was pretty well done, though I was getting a bit confused during the whole
Claude revealing herself
and subsequent sequence following that.
Omega being an actual spider was certainly an interesting choice.
I was pretty satisfied by the end though except for how
Kuushana was handled
. Also, I'll say it. Lynn is SO much better than Chigara ever was, and not just in combat. Truthfully, I really disliked Chigara and am pretty happy that she's essentially replaced her. She's far more interesting of a character, and it was cool to see her grow over the game. - The new music It's awesome, not much else to say. I'll talk a little more about how I think it could've been used better though in my cons section. CONS: - Redundant bosses The combat was fun, but when i fight
Kuushana, what was it? 5 or 6 different times and she still survives by the end, it feels like those victories were hollow. Why was she even reintroduced before halfway if I was just going to humiliate the alleged best strategist in PACT over and over again.
It was giving strong Fire Emblem vibes of "I can't fall here! I must retreat!" It's funny with Cosette because that's just the running joke, but it's ridiculous and annoying otherwise.
As a side note, I really don't think the trailer should have revealed that the Sunrider MK3 became the Huntress. This would've been a "Whoa, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" moment for me if I hadn't already seen it in the trailer and it had been a surprise reveal instead. Just my two cents.
-Lack of variety of battle music/music placement Really disappointed by this one. Sunrider 1 and 2 had such a large variety of different combat music for different battles, yet you hear the same damn song "Driving the top down" for about half the game. It got to the point where I actually got mad every time I heard it. Enemy phases were varied, but not the player's? Why? What happened to the huge soundtrack from the first game that was reused in other places? In addition, while the new soundtrack is fantastic, it feels like, again, there was a lack of variety of combat music. I think you hear the title theme 3 or 4 times? It should have only been 2 times at the most, at the beginning and end of the game to have more impact. Let the new songs shine, but mix it in with some of the awesome older songs too. -Consecutive battles Listen, I'm no stranger to a few back-to-back battles in turn based strategy games, and I appreciate still being able to upgrade after every battle, but
6 battles in a row at the end? Are you serious? This felt like someone was kicking me in the balls by the end, and I wanted so badly for it to be over. This is honestly what will kill any chance of a replay in the future for me. 4 was a lot for Liberation Day, but this was absurd. By the time the 5th battle came, I think I actually said out loud "Are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me?" It wasn't hype. It was pretty awful, honestly.
- Lack of battlefield backgrounds This one is up there with the redundant music for me as being pretty unacceptable. Almost every single battle besides the puzzle missions and the final area have the exact same blue, nebulous looking background. It's not like it looks bad at all. In fact, it looks good, but when you see it for 30+ battles, you get annoyed by it, and it makes me wonder why there weren't more unique backgrounds like the other games. Overall, I'd say it was worth my time, but I won't be replaying for NG+. Looking forward to the next game, and I hope they take some of the criticisms into consideration. Hopefully it won't be 7 years lol. Also, please please please add a fast forward feature for enemy turns at least. Edited for typos
Choices don't really matter in the series anymore I guess. Kind of a let down. Had to play twice due to a save gimmick locking you from getting 100% first time through. Secret ending was a let down too. Much sads.
ouai pas mal
El lavado de cara que le han pegado al sistema de combate es increíble, ahora sí que se siente como que son batallas en el espacio
Für nen FSK 6 Spiel erstaunlich viele nackte Brüste.
encounter design. it was bad in every single one of their games but in this one they outdid themselves. In fact it is worse than i thought. they have now programed it so that if you clear the map fast which was a win in the previous sunriders now it just spawns a NEW screen full of enemies just cause your dps is too damn good and they immidiatly take a turn to aniliate you just because ... YOU r 2 f,.. good at it. this is not a difficulty scaling to finish the missions i had to hold back to prevent the respawns.
然后镜头一转就是被PACT五花大绑控制的原型阿尔法ALPHA(也就是前代里原型爱丽丝的姐姐,哥特风的原型)

I don’t really enjoy Sunrider’s gameplay at the moment. Having to unit-pointing feels tedious, and it’s no longer fun for me. In addition, the unit-pointing system consumes energy from the riders, which makes the gameplay less enjoyable. The translation also doesn’t match the Japanese dialogue very well, and not all character lines are fully voiced.
It's a legendary story. Waiting for Sunrider 5,6,7,8,9,10^^
