Okay so, I have played this for an hour and I think I should give objective review about this game. I won't talk about the controller, the lack of graphic option, etc since I received it early. I must say that this game is mostly a visual novel type game with battle tactics mechanic (Similar to Digimon Survive, Final fantasy Tactics). You will not avoid reading long text and conversation between characters. If you are a person who dislike reading, this may not be for you. It took me quite some time to get into the first battle after the tutorial. The game also borrow time schedule system similar to Persona series and that is something that I like. While there is still no voice acting text (just a few expressions voice), I don't think this is bad at all. It's not like it's completely emotionless. During the battle, the explanation of the mechanic is more or less easily understandable but the user interface can be a bit confusing since it's so bland. You also gain EXP each time you defeat an enemy and not after battle. That is something new since I never experience that before. The only thing that is missing is just voice acting. For an indie game, this is already good. I can recommend this to those who love tactic style battle and like reading a lot.
If you like Persona and/or Fire Emblem games, this is a game for you. It's basically Fire Emblem style combat mixed with Persona story aspects like free time and building relationships with characters. On top of this, if you aren't interested in certain aspects of the game, there are three different ways to experience it: full experience, play through everything the game has to offer. Story mode, only read through the story without having to do the battles. And battle mode, only play the battles without reading the story. As for the combat I think Nilspace does a great job of adding on to the traditional Fire Emblem style with things called modules. These basically allow you to choose what class you want your characters to be, if you don't like a character as the class they are, you can equip a different module and it will change their class.

Pretty great and polished game. It's a Persona-esque game with Fire Emblem-like gameplay, though the story from what I read on the forums is completely linear, so the story choices you make are just "flavor text" so to speak. It does mean you feel no pressure in choosing them though. WHO you choose to interact with and in what order is, in contrast, EXTREMELY important though. If say you didn't plan out your activities beforehand then you are screwing yourself in the battle section, delaying upgrades and stuff. That said, most of the time you should be able to beat the game the "default" way even on the highest difficulty. There could be a lot more depth like delving into certain characters' stories giving you Unique Items and stuff you wouldn't have otherwise, but I'm too early in the game to know if that's a thing right now. Story's pretty chill. Not gonna spoil more than that. The only question I have is whether Nilspace (the in-game game) is a 3rd POV action game or a turn-based tactics game because sometimes the characters would geek out on details that make no sense if it's a TBT, like attacking the enemy's back or the enemy moving too fast to hit and stuff. Would recommend to anyone who like this type of game or maybe even dating sims. It's not a dating sim but the format is a little similar. EDIT: Finished at 57 hours. That is a lot more playtime than I thought I'd get out of this. In fact, I'm certain the game should be twice as long if the devs were able to realize the game exactly as they dreamed. One of the biggest weakness of this game is missing features. There were supposed to be duel fights in the game, but there isn't one. There were supposed to be Unique Items that you can pick up and use it to great effect in the battle and/or social part of the game, but there isn't one. The resource system was clearly balanced in a way that anticipates more than 50 hours of playtime - I reckon another 10 at least if I truly want to get to the point where I can actually buy some of that S-grade equipment - but in the end the scope grew too big, they cut stuff, and it feels like they never rebalanced it. Heck, I didn't even get to unlock more than a handful of level 20 classes. At least the free June fulfilled my fantasy of a Flying unit that doesn't suck, but man. Even the story felt like it should've had a second half, especially since the store featured some misleading content, by which I meant some of them never appeared in the actual game itself (I never saw the part where I get to yell/laugh/cry at Kyle for example, which suggests deleted scenes). June was set up to be this main antagonist during the beginning of the game, but not only did she have the least amount of screentime (barring super side characters like Kyle), she only has 3 story scenes, like wth? Also, Sonia was supposed to be a recruitable character, but in the end it didn't turn out that way. That said, it wasn't actually a bad decision to cut out all these content. If the battle portion of the game had turned out as the devs intended, then I'm sure they could've added in all those missing story content and extend the game's playtime by another 50 even. As it is, I was burning out during the latter half of the game and could not wait to be done with it when having to slog through Beat's bs final boss map. The battle portion of the game definitely could've used more stuff to keep the experience fresh throughout the game. The best part of the game is easily the writing, specifically everything except the main story itself. I could see myself coming back, adjusting the difficulty to This is the first time I played a game where the side stories are infinitely more interesting than the main story, but I'm not gonna complain after all the entertainment I derived from it. Going through the stories of each character is so therapeutic that I'm most likely going to replay the game on Story to enjoy the rest I missed. I seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY need that Skip button though. Like please dev.
"Nilspace" is a badly made and objectively failed "RPG" that's really more like a cringe soaked high school anime club fan-fiction e-book rather than an actual game. What do you do in the game? The RPG and combat mechanics here are weak and uninteresting, no surprise since the focus is more on the developers imaginary friends that he wrote into the fan-fiction. The main aim of this is to get you to click through all the cringey writing. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $20 USD for this. That's right, TWENTY UNITED STATES DOLLARS for this high school anime club dropout fan-fiction... talk about delusions of grandeur. The fact that the developer genuinely thought people would pay that kind of money for this drivel is more entertaining than the entire game is. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Is a fun game, I think the studio could have done a lot of work if it had received the same level of attention and funding that comes along with that as some of the bigger names in this genre. Hopefully they keep making games like this because their style is solid and fun.

This is a good game with an interesting story line. I really like the combat sequences and I am not usually into these types of games.
After playing this for 2 hours, it legitimately has been one of the most well written games I have played. It's been an entertaining story line, lots of drama. The fighting portion is awesome, I'm more of the novice but want more story rich and this is definitely story rich! 10/10
