A Liberation Army is rising up in an act of rebellion against an oppressive rule.

The Story of Suikoden II
Our story's hero and his friend Jowy are members of the Unicorn Youth Brigade, which participated in a drawn-out border dispute between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowston .

Reviews
I bought this game on sale, at full price not worth it due to the lack of UI updates (only graphics and faster battle time). I am recommending this ONLY if you are a 90s baby and played rpg or have played old rpgs. There are alot of elements from newer rpgs that are missing and might turn players off. Pros: Good story telling though it is straight forward and doesnt have much twist and turns (suikoden 2 has a twist but nothing to crazy) Combat - 6 person combat was overall good and the auto battle is great for easier fights Character designs - Old school but each characters looks and feels unique based on certain runes Leveling up - the leveling system doesnt really require grinding and lower level characters catch up quickly Cons: Making money - in 1 & 2 making money early to mid game is a pain gets better in 1 then in 2 by late game money is easy to come by. You need it for upgrading your weapons Guide - if you are trying to get all 108 characters it is impossible without a guide as there are checkpoint were if you go past cannot get the character again Forced party members - In 1 & 2 you are forced to use certain characters, and if you havent used before need to spend resources on which can be a pain if you dont have a good money system Last the amount of playable characters is a double edge sword, because there are so many you can experiment and what you like but due to upgrading is so expensive and you do really get a reliable method until late game (more so in 2). It might make you stick with certain characters
Love this game!
Top 3 Game all time for me. Best Story Best JRPG Best Sound
I played the originals when I was young, feels good to see the story again. I remembered most things from back then, I am 1/3rd of the way through Suikoden 1, maybe halfway but glad to see that and hope I can get the good ending so I can get into Suikoden 2! The sprites are beautiful, as they always have been, but cleaned up a little and the music still sounds as amazing as I remember! This was a birthday present to me, I'm so thankful!
Two of the best RPG's, no, two of the best GAMES ever made! I've finished them on PS1 in my youth, on emulator, and now on PC (only the second one yet as of writing). I still get the urge to come back now and then.
the PSX (1) era was the jrpg era most iconic IPs and even studios either were created around this time or became famous (FF for example) and everyone from that time has his favorites mine were Xenogears, Luna SS and both Suikodens (Planescape, BG1+2, Wizardry and co.) didn't touch any of those games until recently again and i honestly thought it was just the goggles of nostalgia making me think modern jprgs are kinda subpar (to be kind) but both the Luna remaster (although i am still not a fan of Eternal Blue) and especialy the Suikoden remaster made me rethink that stance. these games are just on a whole nother level. about the worst thing when playing these games (today) is that you won't be able to touch these "call back" new rpgs again...all these attemps to bring back those golden jrpg days are just miserably in comparision gamedevelopement was an artform and treated as such and not just as a moneymaking machine. Suikoden 1 is a simple(r) game; even doing pretty much everything you will spend around 20 to 30 hours it is unintrusive: the equipment system, combat, the strategic battles, the plot, heck the grind but that is not a bad thing. Suikoden 1 is just a pleasure to pick up and actualy finish. the remaster also nailed the QoL improvements and the visual upgrades and didn't realy touch the already magnificent OST (still one of the best in the genre). you collect all sorts of characters, equip em , grind (which goes realy fast) and pretty much enjoy the story broken up by a simple strategic warfare minigame (and some other smaller and optional minigames) it is an incredible charming cast, even though many of these 100+ chars are not that deep it is a realy fun little turnbased combat system all packed in very pleasent audio-visual presentation. it is not just the OST or the art(style) but also the color-pallette and effects that make both games still unique. the "vibe" so to say. the 2nd game pretty much took everything Suikoden 1 did and upped the production budget by a 100. the grafics (especialy in the remaster) look even better, the OST is even more varied and still as memorable the cast has more animations and often more bits of story or lore tied to em the equipment system has seen an influx of options and complexety (instead of 1 rune per char you get 3 slots during the game, instead of attaching simple damage-type runes to weapons now they get all sort of passive effects, etc.) the strategic layer took inspiration from Fire Emblem, Shining Force and Tactics (more Ogre than Final Fantasy) but is still simple enough to not get on your nerves the world is bigger, there is way more emphasis on plot and plot presentation (ingame cutscenes, pre-rendered cutscenes, unique setpieces) Suikoden 1 is a milestone that you can start and finish (unlike some boring as hell mamoth games released in recent years) meanwhile Suikoden 2 is for the enthusiast offering Suikoden 1 on steroids but also needing more dedication both games hold up incredible well and similiarly to the Lunar remaster or the (realy bad port) Breath of Fire 4 port show that us older folk do have a point when we claim gaming was "better" in those days l dare you to play any of the throw-away oh so acclaimed modern day SE games like Octopath Traveler and then play something like Luna Silver Star Story or the Suikoden package (nevermind BoF4) it will ruin modern game-developement for you nevermind that Konami probably produced one of the best remasters i have ever seen with this package as games and as a remaster an easy 10/10 and an absolute must have
以前玩的時候根本看不懂劇情
Imagine thinking that you have something valuable, original or interesting to say about Suikoden. Just be yourself.
Capolavori!!!
nice nostalgia... i was a bit dissapointed that they remove the sajah village ruins completely instead of finishing it... overal decent remaster
