Cool concept, hollow gameplay. After THREE YEARS of early access there's hardly anything here that deserves your money. This game lacks nearly everything you'd expect from a modern RTS while also introducing half baked ideas creating what could be a unique experience into a disappointing one. PROS: PvPvE type combat is a breath of fresh air, first person control over your units can be satisfying, day/night cycles add a layer of immersion, has potential for cinematic moments CONS: No tutorial, piss poor optimization STILL, terrible unit micro while playing as commander (zero unit commands other than move to location), next to zero customizable options for skirmish mode (command console prompts do not count), painfully linear and boring tech upgrades, match announcer is CONSTANTLY yapping in your ear about the same update every 5 seconds (our base is under attack, our base is under attack, our base is under attack, unit lost, unit killed, unit lost, unit killed), the alien faction is STILL an afterthought (the only time they are relevant is within the first 5 minutes of a match), most maps do not feel fun to fight in as your troops will CONSTANTLY get stuck on terrain or take the worst route possible, and you WILL run out of space to build no matter what you do on certain maps.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This game is one of those hidden gems, I truly believe that the RTS/FPS genre has so much potential and I don't think a lot of people are aware that this is even a possibility. There are so few games that allow for this type of gameplay--especially those that are kept up to date and still is growing--let alone this type of online PVP dynamic that some other games in the genre just simply don't allow. I've always been a strong RTS enjoyer, and unfortunately I've always been fond of the smaller indie RTS titles which is honestly stunted by lack of recognition. But enough about me and what does this game have going for it +The game is visually appealing +You can play as a commander or soldier, and even as a commander you can play first person which is awesome for a guy like me who really does want to play both interchangeably. +The Devs are continuing to work on the game +There is plenty of Variety of arsenal of weaponry +The vehicles are so very satisfying +The game has a future ahead of it Now for the things that are not going for it: -There is a severe lack of player base which makes finding games difficult every day (people do play a lot on Sundays though according to the discord) -With the beauty of the game comes the downfall of performance. -Some controls are not the most obvious for both commander and First person which is mitigated after a couple of seconds of playing around however. -There should be more factions so each faction has a different play style right now there are only 3. -the AI is not the best and the pathing--although significantly better--still can work against you rather than for you. Overall I really do love the game and there are more features coming such as a campaign. I do wish they added Steam workshop and modding capabilities and either the ability to work with multiple commanders (maybe not the easiest to implement) or at least let you queue up as the specific role that you want. So If you really want to play commander you have to join a game first and see if that role is taken before you get to play. With that being said, truly the biggest issue with the game in my opinion is the player base or lack thereof. WE NEED MORE PEOPLE
Growing up playing C&C Red Alert & Tiberian Sun in the 90s as well as Starcraft. This game feels right at home. The atmosphere sound design and music is fantastic. My Son & I really enjoy batting. A must buy.
performance drops from hell game was super fun on release when it was populated but the same issues with building placement, visibility, and just insane performance loss still haven't gone away.
The game is fantastic and severely underrated. The feeling of when you have a large server and people working together it unmatched.
This game is amazing! I can't wait for more updates. I only play single player so I don't care about online, so I'm really looking forward to skirmish updates. It really needs a difficulty setting to make skirmish harder. Thanks for making such a cool game.
Very fun. Really feels like an all out war, sometimes it reminds me of planetside when all 3 factions would be fighting for an area at the same time. absolute mania, especially if you have a friend playing commander for or against you. Also very satisfying to see that it's still being updated.
Silica combines RTS and FPS and fails at both (in my opinion). At least at the time of this review. The biggest issue is the RTS gameplay. It feels like many of the strategic decisions that make RTS games interesting simply don't exist. - There is only a single resource to collect, so there is almost no economic balancing. - Early on, the only way to increase your economy is by building additional resource collection buildings, since you can't simply produce more harvesters. This removes most of the decision-making between investing in your economy or your military. As a commander youre stuck the first minutes until your first and only harvester finally returns. - Buildings construct themselves, so there is no worker management or production trade-off. Overall you likely will never have more than 6 economy units (as human races). - The technology tree is extremely basic, with very few opportunities to specialize your army or pursue different strategies. - Unit control feels sluggish. There are no formations. Building placement is also frustrating because structures require a lot of space while many maps feel very cramped. On top of that, the game still suffers from a number of technical issues. Units regularly get stuck or struggle with pathfinding, especially harvesters. The AI is poor. It's possible to hide inside enemy buildings and destroy an entire base because enemy units often fail to find a path to you. The FPS combat also feels slow because many units are excessively tanky, making firefights drag on longer than they should.
Main points I have noticed: 1- Game is robotic and empty feeling, it's more fun to play as a unit than a commander because of linear pathing 2- Factions are VERY unbalanced. I have tried every way possible but the insects cannot win, they aren't even a proper "cheap but many" type of unit, just weak. 3- AI commanders and units have no "realization" delay. They instantly shoot you, instantly path to resources and instantly pursue the best path in the game. In short: Fun concept, hollow execution. (Also starting to feel like abandonware)
I've been playing Silica off and on ever since it first hit Steam. The game has come a long way since then, and continues to grow as the years go by. I think my favorite aspect of the game is the environments and the attention to detail with all of the buildings. I love the aesthetic of this game. You can even enter most buildings, exploring their interiors. Though not super complicated and will never be relevant in gameplay. One day, when this game is finished, I would love to see the cinematic videos people make about this game. I hope it does well. The Industrial sector is my new favorite map; I really like walking around and checking out all the buildings that were on that map. Unfortunately, some of the SOL structures, like the Radar station, you can’t enter. But that's also fair; there are much higher priorities. I also bet I’m probably one of the few that explores all the buildings. Great work on the modeling. The hover tank is also my favorite sci-fi tank design in a long time. There are a lot of space tanks, and very few are as cool as it or the railgun tank.
