I will keep it short and sweet. Been in early access for nearly a decade and the devs hopefully haven’t really abandoned this. Could be a great alternative for the toxicity that is Rust. For the price you have to love survival games and want something just not Rust or The Forest. If it’s on sale I say buy it 8-10 bucks.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Subsistence A Masterpiece of Solo Survival craft game Subsistence, created solely by the developer known as ColdGames, stands as a testament to what passion and singular focus can achieve in the world of independent game development. Far from being a simple imitation, this first-person, open-world, PvE survival sandbox offers a deeply engaging and often brutal experience that earns its place among the genre's best. The Core Experience: A True Struggle for Survival At its heart, Subsistence is defined by a rigorous and unforgiving commitment to the survival fantasy. The game drops you into a hostile, yet beautifully rendered, wilderness, and your only objective is to endure. Harsh Environment: You must contend with dynamic seasons, a day/night cycle, and fluctuating temperatures that constantly challenge your character's hunger, thirst, and warmth. For newcomers, the early game is a fierce struggle—finding enough food and clean water is a constant battle, making every successful day feel like a genuine victory. The Grind, Elevated: While resource gathering (the "grind") is a survival staple, Subsistence makes it meaningful. You're not just chopping wood; you're building a complete, functioning ecosystem. The game rewards methodical, calculated progression, making the gradual development from a desperate forager to a well-armed, self-sufficient homesteader deeply satisfying. Dynamic Base Building and Management One of the game's standout features is its sophisticated base-building and resource management system, which ColdGames designed to emulate the micro-management of Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games. Power and Infrastructure: Your base isn't just shelter—it's a functioning entity. It requires a central power system (managed via generators and various fuels) to operate crucial machinery, like crafting stations and defensive weaponry. Maintaining this power grid becomes a vital, ongoing task, forcing you to engage with the world's resources constantly. Progressive Crafting: Crafting is logical and deep, allowing you to gradually unlock advanced technology and upgrades for your gear and base defense, which is necessary to keep pace with the world's threats. Unique Threat: The AI Hunters Subsistence goes beyond typical wildlife threats by introducing AI Hunters—hostile NPCs who are more than simple bandits. Persistent Enemies: These hunters build their own bases in the world and actively pose a threat. They will conduct periodic attacks on your base, forcing you to develop strong defensive structures and armaments. Raid and Dominate: This system introduces a dynamic PvP-like element into the PvE experience, as you can also raid their bases for valuable loot and resources. This constant back-and-forth injects a feeling of dominance into the typical survival loop, distinguishing it from purely isolationist titles. The Solo Developer Advantage The consistency and quality of the game, despite its Early Access status on Steam, are genuinely remarkable for a single-developer project. ColdGames has consistently updated the game, demonstrating a deep commitment to its vision and a responsiveness to the community. The fact that one person built the impressive environmental graphics, the complex AI, the detailed crafting, and the core survival systems speaks volumes about the dedication poured into Subsistence. Conclusion Subsistence is a triumph of solo indie development. It’s an exceptionally tough, rewarding, and meticulously designed survivalcraft game that delivers a robust and believable experience of struggling to build a civilization in the wilderness. For players who relish a challenging grind, deep base-management, and the unique threat of AI hunters, Subsistence is not just a great survival game—it is, as you said, a genuine masterpiece forged by the singular vision of ColdGames. The hours I have poured into this game speaks for itself how extraordinary this game really is. I like just say A BIG THANK YOU ColdGames .
I played the game many years after its first release and I've never experienced such a big mess. The developer should quit making games and go do a normal job. Because I never heard anywhere that after five years, an already outdated game plays worse than when it was released. I only had to play it for ten minutes and I deleted it.
I've had this game for years now. It's got a lot of mixed reviews and I understand why. Granted, there hasn't been any huge updates over the years, but from my understanding, it's one developer doing solo work. So hats off to you. The game is grindy. I personally like to keep the game on medium difficulty, but there are times when base raids become a tad tedious, especially when the hunters storm your base with better gear than you can craft, real early in the game, especially when playing solo. I wish you could create metal scrap at your smelter too, as it tends to be an important component in crafting & the only way to get it, is to find loot crates scattered throughout the world (which can be very difficult to spot). I'm lucky, I have eagle vision :P All in all, a grindy, crafting, base survival game with lots of things I've yet to see (due to the grind). You have to watch your water intake, and two types of food intake. I like this. The base building is fun, you can literally build anywhere and the detail on the builds is crisp and neat. I like the game. It may not be for everyone. But i'm looking forward to getting the rarer, high tier technology.
Remember ultima IV? Slow progress... Yer gonna die. A lot. But if you're stubborn enough, you can slowly build a base and triumph over the environment.
Не плохая игра, поиграли с друзьями. Понравилась. Разработчик не забросил проект он постоянно развивается. Успехов.
