About
Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set on an all-new alien world. It is the next chapter in the Subnautica universe, developed by Unknown Worlds.
Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow Pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands.
Subnautica 2 is being crafted as a single-player experience that you can optionally play in online co-operative multiplayer with up to three friends. You can choose from four pre-designed characters, with more characters and customization options coming throughout Early Access. Work together to explore long-forgotten ruins and learn to adapt to a planet that might not want you there.
To survive the depths and make this planet your home, you’ll need to utilize all the tools at your disposal. Traverse vibrant and breathtaking biomes with your Tadpole submersible. Design and customize bases to return to when your adventures push you beyond the safety of shallow waters. As Early Access develops, so too will your array of tools, equipment, and vehicles. Upgrades will help push you beyond your boundaries and unlock the secrets of this strange world.
Scan and study a rich world of biodiversity to understand life here. Discover everything from the smallest creatures to towering Leviathans. Experience the wonder, and sometimes danger, lurking around every corner. Every dive is an opportunity to uncover why the ship's AI is so determined to continue the mission and what mysteries lie beneath the surface of this breathtaking new frontier.
Subnautica 2 is an Early Access title in active development. Throughout this journey, we will continuously expand the world with additional biomes, creatures, and craftables, while expanding the narrative. You may encounter bugs, in-development features, and performance issues. Your feedback is the cornerstone of our development process. Join us and help shape the next chapter of the Subnautica universe.
Subnautica 2 is being developed by Unknown Worlds, the studio behind the award-winning Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero. Our journey began with the 2003 Half-Life mod Natural Selection, and today we have evolved into a fully remote, globally distributed team spanning from the United States to the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and beyond. Defined by a philosophy of open development and over a decade of community-focused innovation, we invite you to dive back into the depths with a studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the survival genre.

OK, this will be a review of the game in it's current state coming from a big Subnautica 1 fan. All in all the game feels like an elaborate demo more than an actual game for now, so if you are looking for a full experience look elsewhere. The Good: -It looks very nice, the gameplay loop is mostly the same very effective loop from 1, but more streamlined. -The new basebuilding system is excellent, a vast improvement from the original. -The map and creature design are still S tier and the atmosphere is built very well. Exploration is also usually well rewarded with meaningful upgrades. - It had fewer bugs than I expected and none of the issues I ran into couldn't be fixed with a server restart The Bad: - The game runs horrendously in multiplayer, I don't think I ever cracked 60fps even on medium settings. - The game feels way too easy, resources, oxygen and blueprints are absolutely everywhere and the respawn rate is very fast, there is next to no penalty for death, so the enemies don't feel dangerous and the new simplified systems make everything a breeze, especially in co-op. - Most of the creatures being immortal rubber ducks was way more of an issue than I originally thought. Along with it being immersion breaking to whack a fish 1/3 of your size with a hammer-axe or ramming a cargo submarine into a creature full speed with no effect at all, it makes choosing a base location outside of the shallows almost impossible if you don't want to constantly be getting attacked with no way to fight back. Some of the perks help a bit, but the underlying issue remains. I have no idea why they didn't just stick with the perfectly fine system from the first game, they aren't even being consistent with the no-kill policy as some creatures deemed unworthy of immortality can very much be killed and eaten. - The story is a little bland and shoved in your face a little too much right from the start all the way to the end. Endless droning voice logs with some critical information hidden in occasionally. Exploration - as fun as it is - is often rewarded with more and more pointless voice logs and generic loot and blueprints. - The map is very small and linear, but I expect that to change All in all it is very much in progress and I hope it will get better on some of the issues. Currently I can't recommend buying it due to it being so short and restricted, but the core is very good.
