Pros and cons are down below) Check out the first minutes of the game here if you want to (but don't forget to like and sub ;)) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMkixxmrjJE&feature=youtu.be Advantages: 1. Game mechanics are very interesting. At first it was a bit confusing but after the tutorial, I started enjoying them a lot. I think it's original and creative. I loved both exploration mechanics and fighting. Great job! 2. The art syle is unique and lovable. Creates a very cool ambiance! 3. The game has a weird appeal to it. And by weird I mean that I can't even figure out what exactly draws me, but I just want to play more. It's just so much fun. I mean, as I'm writing this, I'm thinking when I'll be able to play more. It's very cool! 4. Also, liked the story and the amount of endings (haven't reached any of them yet, though). I like that there are missable notes that can reveal more about the story or characters. 5. As an overcompletionist, I love the achievements. The icons are also drawn which is a nice touch, it's explained how to get them and getting them elaborates the story which is also nice)) Disadvantages: 1. It would be a nice touch if the items the player equips would affect the appearance of Marie. I think that would be neat, though I can imagine how much time it would take adding these details. 2. For me personally, hiding mechanics were the hardest to understand. I spend a lot of time in the tutorial trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Turned out that I have to be mindful of slashes and type "close door n\". That made me thinking that the game would benefit a lot if the tutorial would have examples of the stuff you can write (like not in the brackets like they are now but in a text so even dumb-dumbs like me would figure it out). Something like that: "you can also hide in the game. In order to do that close the door behind you. For example, the command "close the door s\" would close a particular door on your south but the rest would stay open, be mindful of that." I know that this suggestion might seem funny but I really had a hard time and more examples would be very helpful. You can even add them in a different part of the tutorial just for people like me. 3. Also a list of verbs that a player can use would be really helpful at the start. Maybe like in the different window on the right when one can see equipment. Or maybe it was there then it would be nice to point it out in the tutorial that a player has it because in that case I missed it. It would be helpful a lot because at some point I forgot about going "up" and "down" the stairs ans tried to "ascend" and "descend". Overall: The game is a bit confusing so the tutorial is obligatory. But after that, it's just so much fun to play! I definitely recommend it and I'll definitely play more. I rate it 5/5. It's interesting and original and weirdly addictive. Great job, devs! Hope my feedback was useful!
*slaps game* "This bad boy can fit so much identity death in it"
An absolutely wonderful game! Along with fitting a nice spot in the horror genre in general with how creepy transformation can get, this game delves into something games have at least hinted at: Submission to the villian not just in cutscene, but gameplay. Though a growing number of games are allowing you to be the villian, this idea of 'perma-corruption' as I call it is beautiful. On top of that, the map is never confusing, the puzzles are difficult but fair and the unique card/sentence fighting system gives the game a luck-based edge. All I can end with is, I applaud the creators for thier efforts to make this strange yet sweet game a reality.
(Written as a bugtester and friend of the developer.) The Story is about Mary trying to find her brother and her friend in a manor filled with dolls, and then escape from it. The dolls however would like you stay and play forever. And the dolls actually will turn Mary into a doll. And then you keep playing and have to transform the brother and friend into dolls too. Your Creator demands no less. Gameplay is turn based and focused on exploration. The camera is a top down view of the manor, but Mary can only see things within her line of sight. She can, however, hear things moving around within a small distance of her. This leads to situations where Mary enters a room and spots a doll that had been standing still. Mary then hides in a nearby room and sees the doll's shadow creep closer and closer to her hiding spot. Sometimes the doll will return to its patrol path. Sometimes it will remember seeing Mary enter the room and then follow her in for a game of tag. Combat is about using cards to construct sentences to improve the power of your attacks or shields. You have to think carefully as your actions will eventually cause the enemy to attack, Sort of like a horror protagonist trying to think of a way to escape the monster. Or you can set the combat-system to real time and be the horror protagonist who starts panicking and throwing cards at the monster. So it all leads to a tense game where you need to carefully sneak around the manor, keeping an escape route in mind. And if you can't escape, then you get to enjoy being turned into a doll. And then do the same to your brother and friend.
I love this game. I like dolls, and bad ends involving dolls. oh and good ends. dolls are cool regardless. This game is unique, and theres not nearly enough content like it, in my opinion. 11/10, would become gothic lolita doll again.
to the the point if you want to play a game with transformation theme you got and the story good too.
I found this game not long after it first came out on itch.io and the day I opened the game I feel in love with it instantly. I played through the entire game in one day and night getting every ending and seeing everything it has to offer as fast as I could because I loved it so much. While this game is far from the only factor in this I will say that when I found this game I was just starting to discover that I might be trans (turns out I am) and it was one of the things that helped me finally realize that I was. This game means a lot to me and I'm very happy I found it when I did. I'm planning to go back and replay it soon so I can have all the achievements on steam. Thank you for making this game Bottled starlight and I'm happy to say I've loved all the games you've been working on after making this one.
Still not as horny as Changed.
