I don't play a lot of 2D games or beat'em ups, but Street of Rage 4 got me involved and having great fun. It is excellent game and example how arcade games can be realised to contemporary standard. The game has got excellent graphics, interesting combo moves and a lot of dynamic button-bashing so I really recommend arcade stick or at least a gamepad for it. This game is probably a bit similar to Final Fight from the times of arcades but I think it may be better not just because of the graphics and it would be a hit in the times of arcades. It is the first game in the genre I liked so much. The developer do a really good job and they also have their custom game engine. I haven't tried the co-op so cannot say anything. So if you are like me, you normally play 3D games but want to play sth solid and fun and visually appealing even though it is 2D I really recommend this game. I also appreciate developers releasing the game for Mac. This made me able to actually play it on a MacBook while travelling. Also the game is nice example that side-scrollers and retro mechanics do not need "pixel art". Pixel art very much overused nowadays and often a sign of poor graphic design skills nowadays in its original time was not a "style" it was the developers representing graphics the best they could on given hardware. So if todays hardware was available in the times of arcades there would never be pixel art, they would look like this.
-Really fun game with a friend (get a second controller) or even solo (game can be challenging). -Has online. -The fighting move set is actually fairly deep. Close to a fighting game almost, but still simple enough to pick up and go. -The stages are awesome and really fun to progress in. -Amazing art and animations, pretty top tier stuff here. -The music is great and phsycs you up to play. It is on par with Streets of Rage 2 (thats a good thing). Amazing revival of a dorment series and genre (arcade beat'em ups). Perfect for steamdeck too.
Great game, had a lot of fun playing coop, would recommend!
Game is so fine and waited a lot of years to play couch co-op with my brother. Also try the 1,2,3 SEGA games.
one of games where the DLC really makes it shine 21 playable characters every character having 5 different special / blitz / star moves you can change and finetune your build. alternative moves are unlockable through Survival mode extremely polished and tight combat. perfection. 6 game modes including Training and Survival (roguelike) with a ton of various perks / upgrades / unlocks couch & online multiplayer coop / pvp 2 soundtracks - modern and retro this is the one bro, trust
