STEINS;GATE

STEINS;GATE is among the best visual novels that I have read though it too has its flaws. The main characters in the story are, for the most part, well-written, have good depth and story gives each of them enough room to growth. In particular the main character is brilliantly written and it's a joy to follow his development throughout the story. The game's plot is excellent from a narrative standpoint, but from a scientific standpoint, it doesn't hold up to closer scrutiny. This is a shame, because the game spends a lot of time trying to appear scientific. My solution was to turn off my brain whenever game started to talk about [spoiler] the theory of time travel [/spoiler]. The narrative flow is generally smooth (even though it's slow at the start), but it suffers slightly from the division into chapters. By this I mean that various supporting characters each get their own chapter that focuses on them, which slightly disrupts the pacing for the other side characters. Despite its minor flaws, the game is excellent and definitely worth playing. It’s also worth noting that the game has several different endings, all of which are worth experiencing, though it’s best to play through it blind the first time, after which you can use a walkthrough to experience the rest of the story. Oh, and the game is full of Japanese culture and charming quirks. These might not be to everyone's taste, and some of these oddities have aged a bit poorly.

Very slow to start, but gets better, and really good later on. Couldn't put it down, and had to get all endings. Recommend looking up a guide for getting all endings before you play so you don't miss anything. Story and characters were wonderful. Really liked them a lot. A bit too much nudity / sexual content at times.....so be careful where you play. Time travel / physics concepts were presented in a way I really liked. Really want to play other games in the series now.
