Addicting game, 100% it and I don't regret it. The gameplay is a bit simplistic but can easily have depth if needed. The different characters are fun to use (albeit there isn't much encouragement to try out new ones, admittingly). The story and dialogue are also great to keep you hooked in. Highly recommend it. Lowest points are probably the high difficulty options being unfair sometimes and some of the achievements being grindy. The Outsider DLC is also really good and worth the price, get it if you can.
I thought this was going to be a small fun game to 100% to kill some time before Palworld 1.0, and it was... Until it isn't.
Don't be fooled by the nice casual mobile-ish looking screenshots. this game is anything but casual. 3 Acts with around 15 missions each act, doesn't take too long to finish but already overstayed its welcome near the end because the combat is as shallow as a puddle, missions are so repetitive they just blend into each other; the game doesn't give you enough information to make informed decisions in a TURN-BASED TACTIC game. Angry Birds had better design than this game, freaking Angry Birds. If you want to 100% this game then you better prepare to grind for hats with 2% spawn rate, not only that there are multiple rare hats that can spawn on the same enemy type which make that 2% even lower and not all hats will count for achievements. Hat spawns on specific enemy type so if you want a specific hat, you have to replay the mission with that enemy type but guess what, the game doesn't tell you which enemy spawn in which mission and google doesn't help, information is for nerds amirite? Pretty much every mission has an alarm that can spawn UNLIMITED enemies and will spawn progressively stronger enemies meaning you have to rush to the escape pod ASAP because fighting them off is not an option. Most mission layouts are also procedurally generated instead of handcrafted for an intended experience and yet they're so boring and repetitive and I know repetitive, I have at least 1000 hours in roguelikes and lites. The manual aiming and ricochet bullet mechanic seems interesting at first but then only 2 out of 10 characters can use weapons with laser sight and your characters can't even aim without swaying their arm. Your chance of hitting ricochet shots is as slim as winning the lottery, most of the time it will just be point blank shots from covers. There's no overwatch or taking cover to reduce hit chance, each character has 1-2 abilities that you can use once or twice per mission, all you do in every mission is move and shoot or move twice. Characters have levels and perks but there's no skill tree or customization, every character has a fixed playstyle and only gain EXP if they participated in a mission and not dead at the end, bench characters get ♥♥♥♥ ALL. Even if you use the same characters from beginning to end you don't even earn enough EXP to reach max level, you have to go and grind old missions that give peanuts for EXP and this game loves making you grinds if you want to 100%. Weapons stats increase linearly and you may find them inside loot bags (which you have to waste turns to run over and pick up, they don't automatically pick up when you run pass them) or purchase from vendors, there are rare weapons but at best they'll deal 1 extra damage and maybe pierce enemy/cover, there's no excitement when I found a rare item because the gameplay or strategy doesn't change at all. You have to pay Gallons (in-game currency) to have more inventory space, why is inventory management even in a game like this? What good does it adds to the game that you have 10 space vs 100 space, what are the players supposed to hoard? It's not like there's this super OP consumable instakill everything on the screen that you can farm and stock up. It's all fake progression and I don't see the point of having it, it's just a mess of bad game design. There's pretty much no rewards for playing on Elite, I don't see how earning 50% more EXP is justify for fighting more enemies with more hp every mission, dying in 1-2 hits with the same weapon damage as Casual, losing 50% of your Gallons if you abandoned mission. This game is not an RPG, why is there even difficulty settings? There's only one way to play this game because it's a tactic game for babies. I don't even know why NG+ even exist, you start the game with the same crew but your gears and levels are gone instead of keeping your gears + levels and rebalanced the campaign, I guess that's just too much work right? The game obviously allows save scum because if you missed your shot, you can just quit to menu and continue from the start of your turn so why not just add a redo button as QoL or manual/quick save? Idk how is this game getting glowing reviews consider that only 34.1% of players even beat Act 1's boss, only 14.1% of buyers never opened the game and 3.1% skipped tutorial so that's a HUGE drop out rate. I'm so glad I didn't make an impulse purchase of Steamworld Heist 2 because after this mess, I don't care even if SteamWorld Heist 2 were better, I just don't want to interact with this franchise ever again. I regret spending even $2 for this, could have bought Brotato's DLC and have more fun NOT playing it.
Великолепная пошаговая игра, каждый раз прохожу и каждый раз не надоедает играть. Что хожу отметить: -отличная графика -музыка в игре отлично написанная -нормальный сюжет
A miraculous Xcom-like that really shouldn't work, but does, succeeding at translating that style of turn-based tactics into 2D.
Steamworld Heist was a fun adventure with a lighthearted charm and a fresh twist on the turn-based tactics genre. It started off feeling somewhat plain, but as I recruited new characters and unlocked more abilities, its tactical potential slowly unfolded. It still wasn’t as deep as something like XCOM and the lack of variety lowered its replayability, but the initial playthrough was a satisfying experience. I especially enjoyed the unique implementation of aiming. Manually angling each character’s attacks felt novel yet intuitive, and became extremely gratifying with the addition of ricochet mechanics, laser sights, bombs, and covers. However, I could also see this being frustrating to some, because certain situations required perfectly timed button presses to “lock in” an angle in the middle of a character’s animation. Ricocheting a sniper’s bullet on 2 different walls to get a flanking shot on a covered enemy felt amazing, but it was also devastating to completely botch a turn because my guy couldn’t keep his arm straight for even half a second. The chief annoyance for me was the equipment management. At the end of every mission all I wanted was to jump right back into action with my upgraded gear and characters, but the large amount of low level loot and limited inventory space often forced me to waste time sifting through the junk. Extra inventory upgrades became a no-brainer choice in every shop, and the whole system felt unnecessary and tacked on. But this was a minor blemish in my experience with the game. Steamworld Heist succeeded in providing a tight, tactical turn-based experience while removing the steep learning curve that often accompanies the genre. My personal taste skews towards meatier games, but I think this is a worthy title for both turn-based enthusiasts and newbies. There’s plenty of design space left to explore with this concept, and I’d love to try the sequel to see how Image & Form expanded upon it.
Ricocheing Shots off a backwall into multiple enemies never gets old
Very fun game with a unique mix of RTS and Angry Birds. Super entertaining.
