Starpoint Gemini Warlords unfortunately seems to have been dishonest. They may have made an empty promise during the biggest Steam sale of 2022 regarding upcoming Steam Deck support for this game. No updates have taken place. I dislike developers / publishers that make empty promises. See here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2994021875

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

8 hours into it and I find that all the things I did in the first game are a chore in this version. Missiles lock forever. same 5-6 enemies everywhere (no variance in spawns) boarding ships sucks even worse universe feels less alive so far best way to make money so far is to break open randomly generated boxes sigh Like the game community hasn't had enough of breaking loot boxes (these aren't ptw boxes) Camera has always had a slow wonky feel even in the first one. positives stuff is prettier beginning story was cool enough customizing ship color and such is kewl it seems to have more strategy there though I haven't got to it in 8 hours. I have been flying around just exploring a good portion. I have great respect for the peoples that made the first game but I can't say i'm really enjoying it after 8 hours. Really kind of bummed.
I don't mean to trash this game, as it has many good aspects, but the gameplay didn't click with me. The game claims to be a "simulator", but it isn't. It's a space themed RPG with 4X aspects, but the way you control your ship doesn't feel like a simulator at all. Combat is awkward, you really can't aim or control what you're doing, the maximum camera distance is too close to the ship to have any tactical understanding of what's going on, and the way the player impacts the outcome of battles is by activating rpg like "powers" (cloaks, killer shots, doubles of your ship that will attract enemy fire, all "magical" and nonsensical). Combat, to sum it up, is more similar to WoW, where you didn't need to aim your blows and everything was stats related, than to anything that can be called a simulator. As another negative aspect, one of the coolest parts of the gameplay, the fact you can board and take over enemy ships, is hampered by the general messiness of combat, it's really hard to see what's going on with your marines, and give orders to them, while at the same time flying a ship that's firing its turrets to enemies out of your field of view. The amount of control you have over your fleets is also lacking, you can order them around in the map, but you really can't give them orders while in ship view, and then the only orders you can really give your fleets is "go here and fight anything you encounter". You can't tell your fleet to prioritize what enemy to attack, you can't give different orders to different classes of ships, just blob and send them to fight. Numbers always win. However, if you enjoyed previous Starpoint Gemini titles, or like a light real-time space 4X, this game might be up your alley. The 4X also has some issues, there are many better examples of the genre out there, but the fact that you can pilot a capital ship, do missions like in freelance (or any other similar space game) and manage a faction in a complex, "alive" universe, really is compelling. It's just that the ship control and rpg, skill based combat, kills it for me.
Single player Eve online/mount and blade mash up, great fun!
Awesome game. It's like Mount and Blade Bannerlords in space but you play as a big ass ship.
the first 10mins are a little slow, but after that been enjoying it immensely. I cannot believe I had never heard of it before. Most of it is incredibly intuitive, and well designed. Enjoyable story too> I give it a strong recommendation if you like space sims and empire building.
TLDR: Pros: + Grow your factions + Upgrade your base + Different ships + Control fleets + Spend perk points Cons: - Interacting with other faction pointless, does nothing - No sense of exploration - No point in playing with a smaller ship - Weak story - No real ending/credits roll - Limited loadout customization for your ship Starpoint Gemini: Warlords offers some fun moments—especially when it comes to conquering the map, upgrading your base, and commanding big ships and fleets. The ability to spend perk points and manage your growing factions adds a bit of depth. But beyond that, the game’s claims of 4X strategy and RPG elements feel very thin. It’s more like a stripped-down Freelancer with a touch of Dawn of War 2’s make the tiles your colour feel rather than a full-fledged 4X or RPG experience. Interacting with other factions is largely pointless and doesn’t impact the game in any meaningful way. There’s almost no sense of exploration, and playing with smaller ships is hardly rewarding, which limits variety. The story is weak, failing to draw you in, and the lack of a proper ending or credits leaves the whole experience feeling unfinished. On top of that, ship loadout customization is minimal, so there’s little room for experimentation or personal flair. All in all, Starpoint Gemini: Warlords is… okay. It’s fine if you want to pilot big ships and dabble in fleet control, but don’t expect a deep strategy or RPG journey. Fans looking for more substance or meaningful interaction might find it disappointing. I do love this genre and trope, but it's going to be a thumbs down for me.
This game is worth every penny, dlcs are okay but the base game is epic. If your seeing this now from the sale and you love games like Freelancer, BUY THIS!
